Hi Lyle,
Thanks for asking the question. The rail is flat on the bottom, and is designed to be used with the Fusion Handrail Connectors. The connectors hide all cuts, and attach to the rail with wood screws. No plugs, no miter cuts, and no sanding required.
If you're planning to use this in another handrail application, then yes, you may need plugs to hide the joinery system you use. In that case, you Read More

If you're planning to use this in another handrail application, then yes, you may need plugs to hide the joinery system you use. In that case, you would need the diameter plug you normally use. Remember that the plugs you use are unfinished, and the rail is finished. So you may have to overcome some mismatch in color.

Hi,
Yes, you can cut this rail. Keep in mind that endgrain really soaks up stain and will be tough to match to the pre-finished surface. This rail is designed to be used with connectors in the Fusion Handrail System, available through the Home Depot. But, many customers use this rail for handrail in other applications because it's a beautiful piece of red oak rail with a factory applied finish.

Answer:
Hi,
All attachments needed to attach this handrail to a wall are available on Home Depot.com, but are not included with the price of the rail. I recommend using standard wall rail brackets, or other Fusion connectors if you wish to assemble a rail and baluster system.
Thank you!

One answer indicated hardware is available at Home Depot, but I am not certain what hardware to purchase. Other questions and answers were very helpful but I really would like to get the attaching hardware right the first time. This is to attach to a wall opposite an existing staircase railing.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! My customer was having trouble grasping the old hand rail due to it not being a round rail. After installing these rails he now feels secure going down the stairs. These rails were easy to install thanks to the pre-cut flat on the bottom and very smooth to the touch when they arrived. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Serviceable Rail Decent Rail, had to weed through the stock to find the best ones; some stock had serious cupping. Was not particularly happy to find a finger joint within a foot from the edge. Purchased to avoid having to finish myself; finish was not perfect and would not qualify as fine woodwork, but more than adequate for my rental property. Be aware that these are a much thicker diameter then unfinished products. May 12, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not great The finish felt rough, and the diameter of the railing was larger (therefore harder to grasp) than I expected. The wood is a nice color and of good quality. Shipping to our home took ten days longer than estimated. October 7, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice railing This is a very high quality piece of railing. Straight, nice grain, flawless finish, packed to withstand shipping across the country to arrive undinged. May 28, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Very poor finish The rail was stright and well built. The prefinish was very poor. The wood grain was raised enough to put slivers in my hand when I ran my hand down it. March 9, 2012
