I have been a remodeling contractor for over 30 years, and watched as roofing products have evolved. In particular, the products for flat roofs have really improved. Where i live, in Michigan, summers are hot and we have snow in the winter.
This product is a peel and stick. Skip the base sheet. It isn't needed. Don't worry about the warranty. You will get 20 plus years out of this roof. It is a modified rubber, asphalt. This means that it flexes and won't crack like plain asphalt. It is a bit tricky to apply if very hot. It gets very sticky when hot!. get someone to help that knows what they are doing. I have used this on dozens of roofs for over 10 years and had no problems or failures. good luck with your project.

I like the finished product. It was fairly easy to install with the exception of removing the release sheets. The base sheet I received was in a box that was torn and taped up with duct tape; when I tried to remove the plastic from the adhesive it did not come off smoothly as was demonstrated by a video I watched on the GAF web site. The plastic sheet would pull easily for a foot or so and then I would encounter a 6" to 1' area that did not release so easily. The first piece of base I installed was 16' and required about 10 minutes to remove the plastic. A call to GAF customer service resulted in the advice "return it to where you bought it".
The cap sheet had the opposite problem, the plastic release sheets did not want to stay in place, especially on the selvege area. With two pieces of the cap sheet I had to cover the selvege with release plastic I removed from pre3vious sheets.
My advice concerning this product line is that you inspect every box to be certain it is new and has not been mishandeled before you purchase. At my local Home Depot the boxes of new product were on shelves above the floor while beaten, battered and obviouslt returned boxes were on the floor. I am certrain the problems I had with the base sheet was due to mishandling prior to my purchase, the cap sheet problems I experienced I believe are due to product flaws on the part of GAF.

I bought a roll of Liberty Cap Sheet at Home Depot last Sunday. On further investigation I guess I also need Liberty Base Sheet, which Home Depot does not carry.
It seems inappropriate that Home Depot would sell only half the Liberty system. I’ll bet if I had a warranty claim for just putting on the Cap Sheet I’d not get too far.
I just spoke with the GAF Technical Department. They say that just putting the Cap Sheet on plywood deck would last all of 5 years, but with the Base Sheet I would get maybe 10 years. I don’t consider either to be “long lasting” as your literature and as Home Depot claims in its Product Overview for the Cap Sheet.
I plan to return the Cap Sheet to Home Depot. I suggest that at a minimum Home Depot carry the complete Liberty System, along with full disclosure of the product limitations.
