Product Overview

MoStarter strips are one of the most overlooked parts of a quality roofing system! That's because some folks try to use a cut-up strip shingle as the "starter" course on the roof. Unfortunately, cut-up shingles may not have properly positioned adhesive to ensure adequate wind-resistance. They also require cutting and fastening on the roof, which can be time consuming and create more waste.

California residents: see   Proposition 65 information

  • Factory-applied Dura-Grip helps prevent shingle blow offs, adhesive tightly locks down asphalt shingles at both the eave and rake areas of the roof
  • Peel-and-stick roll eliminates the time and hassle of cutting and nailing shingles as the starter course
  • QuickStart can be used with any asphalt shingle with exposure of 6 in. (152 mm) or less
  • Special deck-side adhesive allows for one-time repositioning, while aggressively adhering over time
  • QuickStart is part of the GAF lifetime roofing system and covered by up to a lifetime limited warranty when installed on lifetime shingle roofs
  • Recommended drain: K-7272 or K-7271

Answer:
Most building code I've seen says you can have up to 2 layers. So if you have 2 layers already, you must do a tear off. If you have only one layer and it's still in pretty good condition (just getting older) you can put on a second layer.

Answer:
It really depends on the condition of the existing shingles. In general, it's easier with better results to strip the old shingles off.

Answer:
Hi Teresa, this product will not work as a stand alone roof covering. It's designed to replace a cut shingle used for the starter course and works very well for its intended application.

Answer:
No - I don't think this would work well at all as this is designed as the starter course under asphalt shingles. I think for your application you should consider stripping the existing shingles and installing an appropriate underlayment before putting on the metal roofing.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as advertised. Saved me time and money Goes on easily, one person can complete. Saved time by not having to cut 3-tab shingles for starter shingles. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product This product is awesome! Easy to use and does the job. July 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super easy & quick to install This was the first time I've ever used a starter roll. I've always cut shingles for the starter strip. This starter roll is awesome. Super quick to install and easy to do yourself. Simply start at one end, unpeel and stick to get started and work your way along the roof line. Saves a ton of time! I'm only a DIYer so I can't speak from a professional standpoint but I would definitely use again! June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by time saver worked well, easy application with peel off back.saved a lot of time. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Time Saver Choosing QuickStart Peel and Stick instead of cutting a bunch of shingles was a no-brainer for me! I used roofing nails every 8" or so since it was only 40-45 degrees outside. As expected, backing didnt stick at all. November 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Experienced Roofer I've used QuickStart and ProStart as starter courses for the roof. I usually use ProStart because of how it's cheaper than using a three-tab shingle and it gives you a better warranty, but QuickStart is preferred by some of my guys because you can install it quicker than you can ProStart. It's a simple roll-out, peel off the strip, and apply it to the roof. We put some nails in it, but you don't have to. August 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good product/ easy to use This QuickStart product is very easy to use. I either use this or the Pro Start starter strip shingle. Either one is such a better product and easier to use than a 3 tab. I know longer use a razor blade and am much more confident in the quality work I do for my customers. August 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by General Contractor, 22 years Remember to apply when temperatures are between 45 and 110 degrees F. Any colder and it may not stick the way you want; any hotter and the sun melts the entire Earth. If it's in between those temperatures though, it works like a charm! July 31, 2015
