I have a front to back space of 12''. im looking at an oven that has 15'' front to back. I really don't care if it sticks out past the cabnets but was wondering if the brackets will be ok?

Answer:
As I remember, the main bracket attaches to the back wall, so is no problem.
But I remember screws coming down from the top cabinet base; if it is only 12 inches, they may miss the microwave.
You need to check the template measurements.

Answer:
Hello CTControlledAutoDamper - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. I'm sorry we do not have the amperage of the microwave when the fan is running. The running amperage is listed on the microwave rating plate. If you wish to use the microwave on a generator, then we recommend a generator size of approximately 3000 - 4500 watts. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

JVM3160RFSS is an over-the-range microwave with built-in exhaust and cooktop lighting for installation over a range or cooktop. It is not designed to replace a countertop microwave (JE1860SB001). A comparable model is our GE PROFILE™ SERIES 2.2 CU. FT. COUNTERTOP MICROWAVE OVEN PEB7226SFSS. If it is installed in a cabinet, you will also need OPTIONAL 30" BUILT-IN TRIM KIT JX7230SFSS or OPTIONAL 27" BUILT-IN TRIM KIT JX7227SFSS. The only difference between the 27" and 30" trim kit is the trim frame. If the microwave is installed over a 27" or 30" wall oven, be sure to match the trim kit width to the oven. Microwave trim kits are designed to provide a built-in look while also providing air flow necessary to the microwave. A trim kit consists of the trim frame, as well as an upper, lower, and rear duct that attaches to and encases the microwave inside the cabinet cut-out. It is important to only use the trim kit designed for that model. Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

1.6 cu. ft. Over the Range Microwave Oven in Stainless Steel is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 5740.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flawed Design This microwave is not built to last more than a couple of years. There isn't a door latch and the door is opened by pulling on the handle. The door handle is attached to the door with two small screws thru the plastic door assembly which broke after 2 yrs. This is a design flaw that could be fixed by adding a door latch or reinforcing the plastic where the handle is attached. I called GE for a replacement part and was told the door assembly was one piece and I would have to replace it. The part was $417 plus shipping. This microwave sells for $250. Unbelievable. Very disappointed in GE and will not be purchasing anymore of their products in the future.

Last year, the handle broke. Then it got worse. Every time I try to close the door to microwave, it goes into a pause mode where it sounds like a fan is running but it won't start. I often have to open and close the door up to 8 times to get it to start. This happens nearly every single time I use it now. I have always been a big fan of GE products but this product is terrible. After doing some online research, I believe this may be a consistent issue with this model. I would recommend you chose a different brand and product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed in the quality of hard, non flexible plastic parts....cracking and breaking..... I bought this microwave 2 years ago when I had Home Depot remodel my kitchen. It works like any microwave and I like how powerful the exhaust fan is, HOWEVER; The little plastic brackets that hold the handle on just cracked and broke. I also see a crack in the door plastic surrounding the window right by the bottom handle bracket. Those little plastic brackets are $30 a piece. I removed the inside door plastic trim to hopefully expose the screws that hold the handle brackets in but that did not expose the correct screws. Microwaves generally last a Looooonnnngggggggg time. The plastic on this model is substandard and it should last longer than 2 years. I generally feel I can trust GE products but with this particular product, I am VERY displeased.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A word to the wise I had a JVM 1740DP1CC only about 5 years old. Was looking to replace it with similar make; "hoping" I would not have to drill new holes in my wall and cabinetry. Two recommendations...first to GE how hard can it be, if you expect to charge more for repair than it cost for replacement to at least have consistency over same sized products where holes would line up? To Home Depot, it would be helpful if your store would offer recycling assistance for throwing out the low quality microwaves, especially if people give you their business for purchasing replacements and particularly when the cost to replace is cheaper than GE offers to repair. This was my last GE appliance purchase because if I expect 2-5 years of appliance durability I will go with the cheaper brands from now on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 Years tops Highly recommend getting a big box extended warranty. The door is the problem and it will stop working eventually.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just Okay This microwave is just okay. I have to microwave things longer in this one than I did in my previous Kenmore microwave even though they are supposedly the same wattage. The button for the surface light is in the middle of all the other buttons instead of down at the bottom where it makes sense since it's easier to find. Would be nice if the panel lit up because the dark panel makes it hard to read the buttons. And the reflective surface on the buttons makes it even harder to read if there is any sort of glare, sunlight, overhead light, etc. So turn on the light to read the buttons only to have the light create another challenge. The ss finish gets spotted so easily it always has fingerprints; should have gone for clean steel. I think the only better thing about this microwave is the brighter surface light.

While installation can be tricky, that is due more to the number of different cabinet styles and how they are laid out in the kitchen. GE's innovative screw insert pivots to allow for slight deviations from directions due to cabinet differences. In plain English, the pivoting screw ports made installations a heck of a lot easier! As for performance, the darn this is so quiet I have to keep checking it just to convince myself it's running. This is a good thing! The only bad thing was the box didn't tell me I already had a charcoal filter so I purchased a second one online ($15) and waiting for it to be delivered - b/c installing a filter after the microwave is installed is ridiculous - so that delayed me a week.
