Express Cook offers a quick "shortcut" for starting the microwave. Simply touch a number pad from 1 to 5 and press Start, which starts the microwave cooking for that corresponding time (in minutes).
Example:Press 2 to microwave for 2 minutes on power level. Most models after 1994 have Express Cook with Instant On, which simplifies the process even further. The microwave will start instantly when one of the Express Cook numbers (1 - 5) is pressed. No need to press Start.

Hello, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. Over-the-range microwaves and Advantium ovens can be vented to the outside or can recirculate back into the room. If the air is recirculated back into the room, a charcoal filter needs to be used.

Hello, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. Over-the-range microwaves and Advantium ovens can be vented to the outside or can recirculate back into the room. If the air is recirculated back into the room, a charcoal filter needs to be used.
You are correct. A charcoal filter is not necessary when you are venting the microwave to the outside, only when you are recirculating.
The charcoal filter sits loosely in the filter compartment area behind the vent cover. While most are installed at an angle, some lay flat and unsecured in the filter compartment. They are designed to have freedom of movement until the vent fan is turned on, which then holds the filter in place.
The filter can be smaller than the filter compartment, and may not cover the entire vent opening. This is normal. The instructions for replacing, can be find in your use & care manual.
Thanks so much for your question. Have a good day! Read Less

Hi DebbieH, charcoal filter is needed if you are not venting the microwave outside.
The changing of the filter is not hard at all. Take at look at page 29 of the use /care manual. You will see step by step how to remove and replace.

Hi kpkr-this is Sue from GE Appliances. We are excited to hear of your interest! While bottle sizes vary, the cavity dimensions are 20-1/4"W x 9-1/4"H x 14-13/32"D. We have not done specific testing on preparing baby formula in a microwave oven. Baby formula can be heated in the bottle in the microwave if the following precautions are taken: Use the microwave to heat the bottles for serving only. Do not boil or sterilize bottles in the microwave. Water can be boiled, but should be done in a larger container then transferred to the bottle. When making large amounts of formula, surface unit preparation is usually more efficient. Make sure that the bottle is microwave safe. Check the manufacturer's information. Nipples or tops should be removed when heating the bottle in the microwave. It is not recommended to heat bottles with sterile plastic liners in the microwave. Overheating can cause the plastic bags to melt. It will take experimenting to determine the proper microwave times for heating formula in the microwave oven. The times will be in seconds, not minutes. Caution: Always test the formula temperature before feeding the infant. Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

The sales person told me that the difference between JVM 6175 RFSS and JVM 6175 SFSS was that on the RFSS the border on the door glass is black, but the SFSS has a charcoal gray b
order on the glass. An earlier post was answered by GE that the difference was the color of the cases. GE, is there also a difference in the color of the border on the glass?

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1277 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent choice for direct replacement or feature upgrade Very quiet, solidly built microwave. Works beautifully. The stainless/black combo matches up with other GE appliances well. As an upgrade, or direct replacement for an older GE over-the-range, it can't be beat. Similar mounts, template and fan configuration made the job a breeze. It was actually easier to install than the 16 year-old GE workhorse that it replaced. Great value, very satisfied with the purchase. July 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replaced old GE microwave Bought this to replace my old GE microwave which was 12 years old. Magnetron failed on old unit and cost for part was $180. Was very pleased to find out that the old mounting brackets and drilled holes lined up perfectly with the new unit. This unit is also much more quiet than our last model. Great deal and love the stainless steel look. August 10, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Little disappointed We have purchased many GE products, my husband worked for GE for many years and we were loyal customers but sorry I'm not so pleased with my new microwave. It seems cheap, not as many options, I get condensation on the panel below the door. Basically it is not as good as my last one, also the wattage is lower than my last one so the timing of recipes is off July 31, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Broke twice in 2 years Worked great for a year.then the oven started heating even when not switched on. Was fixed under warranty. Now broke again , a year after the fix August 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great features and color! I bought this with the matching slate color stove, refriderator and dishwasher. Works great. Love that the handle hides a lot of smudges and wipes clear when you do get them. Fan works good pulling smells while cooking. Have not used a lot of the features yet but so far nothing has disappointed me. Love the color! August 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Color and cleanup are easy. I am very pleased with my new appliances except they could have better lighting for pushing the correct buttons. Very hard to see. August 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It's nice Looks really nice. Works really well. Easy to use. Hope it lasts. HD extra warranty this time to take care of it if it doesn't. Previous similar GE model lasted less than three years. Had Samsung components inside. Samsung is reported to be the least reliable. However, instructions say not to keep metal rack inside continuously, only when needed. Last one had it inside all the time. That might be cause of its early failure. Also had a theory that we reheated using sensor cook on too large a volume of food instead of the recommended 1 serving. Hoping for best, perfect for us. August 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use We have had this about a month now. It is very easy to use my 6 year old niece can use it. August 23, 2016
