CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 27 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Water filter parts I purchased the GE system at Home Depot about three years ago and have been relative happy with it. Just recently I noticed that the pressure relief valve was leaking. I went on line to the GE model number where I saw a blow-up exploded view of the unit. The pressure relief valve looks as though it was made to be permenant once installed into the unit. So, I went to H.D. to purchase a replacement. None to be had, just another company with a similar unit. I bough it, assuming iwas similar, as I was told by an associate, only to find when I got home that there isn't a mounting bracket, no wrench (to assist un-screwing the base from the head, and no filter (even a cheap one). Dissapointed? you bet. Dissapointed that the GE unit is available "on-line" but that doesn't help me one bit. Dissapointed also that the replacement (Watts) was not a complete ready to go unit. It is being returned. January 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by High Volume Excellent filter ,clear so you can see the sediment.Easy to mount, timer to remind you when to change ! Very good investment if you are on well water !! filter change is easy you can put on bypass if you do not have a spare . I don,t advise but that option is there for you . If you have the money I would suggest putting two on ! Different micron settings of course ! December 3, 2008
Rated 4 out of 5 by Whole House water filter We bought this water filter a few years back & hooked it up with ease to our town water system. It has made an improvement on the water. The only drawback is that the Home Depot close to us does not stock the carbon filter anymore. The no name filter replacements do not last as long as GE. We only change the filter 1-2 a year. Rated 3 out of 5 by Good & Bad Well need to understand that this is just the housing for the filter not the actual filter. Think it's kind of strange that they make you get filters on initial purchase but it's actually a separate item. But then again for my purposes I needed the carbon filter not the sediment filter so the sediment filter would have just been used until they had the carbon in stock. The filters are a little pricey ($35 for carbon) but the improvement in taste to water is noticeable. I'll have to see down the road how the housing holds up so average for now... July 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Don't need to spend more, this is a great filter! I am on a community well system within the village limits of where I live. They only treat the water with clorine to kill bacteria which is normal for community wells in small cities or subdivisions. The amount of iron in the water is not treated at the main pumping facility so this unit was a good choice to protect my high efficiency appliances (water heater, dish washer, washing machine, refrigerator with ice/water dispenser, reverse osmosis system and water softner), not to mention the eventual discoloration of sinks, tubs, toilets and your clothes and shower curtains. There isn't any need to spend the extra money to get one with a by-pass valve on it when you can easily install a shut off valve before and after the unit if you don't have easy access to the incoming line to the house or just after the unit if you can easily get to the incoming water line shutoff. My incoming shutoff is in my basement with the water meter so all I had to do was put the shutoff valve after the unit. If you have a water softner, I recomend using the by-pass valve on it until after the unit is installed and you run the water at any faucet for a few minutes to clear any sediment that may have entered the line during the process of installing the unit or changing a filter. Then just turn the bypass on the softner off and your back in business. As far as installation goes, piece of cake, just get the neccessary parts for the unit, shut off valve(s), copper pipe, and male inlet and outlet fittings, which I recomment you use a paste teflon on them when installing and not teflon tape..... It will leak as the metal threads wrapped with the tape will deform the plastic thread in the unit and then you have a problem, IT WILL LEAK! So use the paste teflon and you'll be good to go. Took me all of about an hour to fit it into my pipes and get it connected. As I said, don't waste the money getting the unit with the by-pass valve built in, you'll spend maybe a third of the difference on the valves when you get the rest of the needed installation parts. Don't forget to get your filter as the unit does not include one, you can get the FXHSC which is a pleated filter for sediment removal or if your on a community well or city water where they treat with chlorine you can get the carbon filter FXHTC which is a solid mesh type filter that removes sediment and chlorine. Another feature that may seem insignificant, is the remote indicator light to remind you to change the filter. I keep mine on the refrigerator, every 90 days it starts flashing a BRIGHT blue light to remind you to change the filter. Which most people would forget about doing since the unit is usually in the basment and the unit does not have a clear plastic filter housing for a visual inspection to remind you. Good luck and enjoy your great tasting water! January 5, 2012
