Answer:
I have a 1300 SF house with a fridge, separate freezer, 4 flat screens, 2 ton AC, and pool pump and I have no issues with the unit running my whole house other than a control board went out on the unit 2 months after the warranty expired. It would also be nice to have a muffler to keep the noise down.

Answer:
To ensure this is the best unit for your home you will need to add up the wattage of the items you want to power and make sure you do not exceed the rating on the generator.

Answer:
Hi Phemie,
This generator system would be able to handle the workload of your 5 bedroom home, as long as it does not exceed the 10,000 watts rated for it.
Just add up what circuits and appliances are in your home to make sure it is adequate. If you are unsure how to do this, consult an electrician in your area who can determine this for you.

10,000-Watt Air Cooled Home Generator System with Symphony II Whole House 200-Amp Automatic Transfer Switch is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Generator! I bought my GE 10,000 Watt Home Standby Generator-Whole House Managed Power in September 2011 and I have never had one problem with it in all that time. An electrician friend of mine set it up for me and intertwined the electrical system to fit the needs of my home should there be a power failure. I do not have a large home so 10,000 watt whole home system was enough power for me. The quality of the generator and it's many features really wowed my electrician friend. He installs generators as part of his job and he told me the generators they install are twice as much money and not nearly as many features and a whole lot bigger in size. That's one of the things I like about this baby, it doesn't take up much space and it looks like a central heating and air unit, very attractive. My friend was so impressed he is going to buy one for his home. But the best part is it works! Several months after I had it installed we had a big storm, it knocked out power to the whole city and surrounding area for five days or more. A few seconds(15 seconds) after the power went out my generator kick on and didn't miss a beat. My entire street and the streets around me were pitch black and I was the only house to have lights on and power. You hope you never need it, but you know you have it when you need it. It does a battery charge run for 20 minutes once a week, and you can set that for any specific time that suits you. All and all I have to say this was one of best and smartest buys I have ever made. And the GE generator is the best, I looked at a lot of others before I chose GE. A ps, it had plenty of power when the power went off and I needed it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with Generator Works well, needed warrantee work after one year which is very costly. Defective ground on engine generator and defective control board in electrical control panel. Dealer honored the engine repair, not the panel. Very expense and not a DY project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Saver I purchased this G.E. backup generator because I have a daughter that has a need for refrigerated medication. If power goes out, her health cannot be jeopardized. This system gives the family peace of mind, and is a life saver when needed. It has performed flawlessly from the beginning and the small footprint is wonderful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trustworthy companion in a storm I have had the 10KW generator for three years and in that time we have had many a power outage, just two last week for 5 hours and 3 hours respectively.  For the first one last week we did not even know we were on the generator because it started during the night.   In our house we could not even flush the toilet without power so this was a must.  When the power goes out we still go on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Investment For Your Money! Between my electrician & gas guy, they had no troubles hooking this up! Only having it for a couple months now, I'm excited to see when it saves our food & give us some light! I'm surprised how much can actually run on it...I was thinking of just a fridge, freezer & some lights, but it can do pretty much the whole house except the heat/AC & stove/oven. We have a fireplace for some temporary heat & fans will come in handy if it's hot! We ran it for just over 2 hours & it did awesome. Fairly quiet, maybe some back ground noise at the least with nothing in the house on!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from started having problems 2 months after warranty expired! I have had this generator for exactly 4 years and 2 months (so warranty expired 2 months ago) and now I have a control board that needs replacing for about $300! I only have 172 operating hours on the unit, it has had all of its suggested maintenance and it is "exercised" once a week as the manual recommends. This unit has been pampered and 2 months after the warranty expires I have an expensive repair? Now I have no faith it will be there when I need it. Should have bought a generac.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Important Question-Snow build-up around unit: How do you keep it away? Just got this unit installed three months ago and has already been in action twice during power failures. But I'm wondering how you keep snow away from the air intake unit if it should snow greater than a foot or so? I live in Vermont and if I'm away for more than a day and it could really snow, what kind of structure can you build around the unit...so that the unit can "breathe" and deadly gases don't develop? It should be a big problem but no one seems to have an answer.
