Answer:
This can cause overload to the generator and voltage drop . This can, and probably will, damage motors IE. well pumps , Refrgerator motors, as well as low voltage to electronics. If you are going by the ampacity of your breakers you may be actually using less than you think.

How far away can the generator be placed from the area where my electrical panel is located?

My electrical panel is located in the northeast corner of my house, but I can not put the generator there. I would need to put the generator on the south end of the house. Is this something the electrician would be able to accomplish by running the wires the length my house?

Answer:
The manufacturer recommends 30 feet to the generator on the 10000 . However as long as the cable to the unit is upsized sufficiently to offset any voltage drop there should be no problem. I installed this same unit for a customer in early oct/2012 at the opposite end of his home (approx 54 Feet) And during Sandy he had all he needed to keep the house up and running! Hope this helps.

Customer Reviews

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excelent Product I installed this 10,000 watt system with the 100 amp auto transfer switch for a customer in early Oct.2012. His power went out ,in the middle of the night, during the storm on Oct. 29th 2012. He told me it did'nt even wake him up . The auto system performed FLAWLESSLY. He called me on the 31st to come change the oil as it had been running continuously since Monday night. 42 hours straight without any issues. The unit is easy to install for a proffessional. The transfer switch is a neat, clean, and efficent product and the control modules ( INCLUDED) make it a more affordable system. You can use a smaller wattage generator to run everything. Significantly less fuel consumption than a same size gas unit. It also comes with a remote led strobe for any potential fault codes. The generator panel is well designed and easily read on the digital display. This is the 4th of this same generator I have installed. I have an order now for 2 of the larger 13,000 and 17,000 watt systems. I will write reviews as soon as my installs are completed. I can't say enough good things about this prtoduct. November 1, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent generator, quality components and great support from GE So far it appears to be a great unit. My electrician was impressed with the transfer switch and higher load modules for my AC units. GE was available for a few questions and setup was easy. It is not too loud and blends in with my AC units due to its compact size. Home Depot's pricing and included delivery made it a bargain. October 19, 2011
