Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ARB1986 Very Poor Window AC
I have a serious medical condition that makes me extremely sensitive to warm temperatures. As such, I have gone through nothing short of 10 different models of window ACs. So, you can definitely say that I have experienced the good and bad. And, I know the ins and outs of how they work and the mechanics behind them.
I got this AC kind of as a crutch when my Frigidaire broke suddenly and all HD (or any store, for that matter) had on stock in store were GE units. That being said, I had high hopes for the AC given its great reviews. 2 days after buying it, I ordered a new Frigidaire. As soon as my new Frigidaire comes in that I ordered, this will go back.
It blows lots of cold air - that's not the problem. The problem is that it doesnt have great ability to circulate that cold air. So, what happens is that right in front of the unit it gets cold, The thermostat on the unit reads 64 and it shuts off because it thinks it has done its job. Problem is, the rest of the room is not 64. And, speaking of the thermostat, why does it only go down to 64?! I know that sounds low, but every other window AC and portable AC I have owned (even a 5,000 BTU portable one) goes to 62!
The Frigidaire window ac (I have the 10,000 BTU one, but you decide based on room size and factors like sun exposure, etc) has a remote thermostat in the remote control. So, it is able to tell that even though right in front of the AC, it might be a freezer, but the rest of the room is not.
Oh yeah, and this window AC weighs an insane amount vs. the competition.
This window AC is really bad and does not cool the room as effectively as other units. Sorry GE, you missed the mark on this one!

Central AC unit failed so we got this temporarily. It easily cooled 400Sqft. I would have rateed it five stars but it has insufficient drain holes. Left the unit in and off for three hot/dry days to ensure it dried out. Nope, atleasr half a gallon of water poured out onto the floor and me when I took it out. Too bad they didnt drill one darn hole.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Great for two years, then ...
I was very positive on this product purchased from Home Depot the first two summers of use until I plugged it in and it fails to cool. Of course its a one year warranty and the local Home Depot store has no recommendations for repairs except to call over-the-top expensive GE Service. Six months of run time
use and kaput ... thank you GE China.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by dareo Cheap and Cool
I researched for weeks on all types of air conditioners. High end mini splits, wall units, ptacs, everything. I calculated all the costs and the energy used. Today i decided to go with a cheap window unit and hope for the best. Picked it up instore along with some 2x3s to make a nice frame for it. I wanted a very sturdy mount without any screws going into my actual window. It is fully supported and the frame can be removed by taking out a few screws. I had a piece of 3/4 cabinet ply left over to fit the top. Easy!
It is not a high end unit of impeccable construction but it is light and cheap. It pulls a very respectable EER for its size.
At full blast it will produce 80 decibels of sound at 4' distance on my little meter. It doesn't sound anywhere near that loud but i guess it is. It sounds like a smooth fan.
Sure i could have gotten an inverter mini split and had 1.5x the efficiency, but it would also cost up to 10x as much by the time its installed. The performance per dollar is great and the EER is pretty good for a window unit. My garage has plenty of windows, so taking half of one is no big deal.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by NYLady cools good with a whistle.
Bought a GE 8,000 which replaced a whirlpool 8,000. The GE didn't cool as well. Plus the AC on low was too loud to hear the TV. Took it back and got the GE 10,000. Cools good but an hour after running it the AC had a low shrill whistle every time the compressor came on. The sound stayed in my ears for awhile even after the compressor went off. Like when you roller skate and you take off the skates... you still feel the skates on your feet.. well the sound lingered in my ears for awhile. I decided to take it back to the store. I could have called for repairs but why should I with a new AC? Might look to a different brand this time.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by nycnoise Very Noisy
I went to Home Depot to buy a Frigidaire air-conditioning unit, which, I found out, was only offered on line. Since we were facing hot days, and thinking that there couldn't' be that much difference in air conditioner noise, I bought this one. Big mistake. This is one loud air conditioner-- about twice loud as the much larger Friedrich air conditioner I had had for years. It's decibel rating, standing 6 feet from the front, measured 80, and this was with the fan speed on low. Now that it's too late, I read the decibel specs on this website and found that the rating is "not measured." I can understand why. It's worse than having a constantly running vacuum cleaner. I will spend the summer with ear plugs and sound deadening ear muffs.
It does its job as far a cooling , and I would take it back if I could, but I live in a building which makes you pay the maintenance men to install the unit, so I would have to pay them to take it out and install a new unit. Labor would cost more than the machine.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Verified Reviewer Good product for the price
I have not had this unit very long so I cannot rate the energy efficiency yet, but overall a decent product for the price.
- Very good at it job. It cools very well so far.
- No rattling or odd noises as this unit is in a bedroom.
- Quality for the price.
- Very easy to install.
- Not as quiet as I hoped, but it's a consistent noise as long as it's on, so it's not too bad.
- The biggest issue is drainage. I'm not sure if this is common with other GE units, but there is no drainage on the outside and after about 3 days of use, the water pooling caused splashing from the fan, which cause unwanted noise. Easy fix...drill a small hole in the back (outside) corner.
