Answer:
The term "halogen equivalent" is what is called a retronym. Before halogen bulbs, all bulbs were of the tungsten, incandescent type, which is what this bulb is. This bulb would just be called a bulb before the invention of halogen bulbs

Answer:
Yes they do. The only bulbs that would not give off any heat are LED. Florescent bulbs also give off some heat, but a lot less than incandescent or halogen bulbs.

If light burned out less in less than one year...do I return to Home Depot or GE? I have receipt and box because I have had this same issue before.

Answer:
Home Depot typically only offers a 90 day return window.. so contacting GE after that is probably what you have to do. I'm not sure exactly what they will do but when I had bulbs from another company not last as long as promised, they shipped me out a new one at no cost. If GE stands by their bulbs they should do the same..

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 35 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 7 Years - NOT! This is an easy review: the seven year bulb lasted ONE DAY!! 'Nuff Said. September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't last long These 7 year light bulbs do not last but 2-3 months. I'm not sure why and how GE could claim the 100 watt Par 38 7- year long life flood light bulb can last that long. The longest bulb's life has been 7 months. They are only used as sunset to sunrise. August 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pricey but reliable The halogen purchased seemed expensive in comparison, but last very long time August 30, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by 7 years is a lie Our house eats these bulbs like popcorn. Our average life in the kitchen is about 6 months, with the bulbs on 6 hours a day or so. They give good light so my wife likes them, so I buy them by the case. June 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 2 of the lights have already blown out, maybe 7 days not 7 years..very disappointed. i would have brought them back but my wife threw them away in disg ust. a very poor product...i spend too much money at home depot to be disappointed. May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best available Not too many places you can purchase floodlights and these seemed most economical. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good lights I got these flood lights and installed them, much brighter than the ones I removed, now I'm going to replace the rest of the lights so they match. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Working So Far Purchased a total of eight of these lights for use with my outdoor floodlights and motion detector lights. Price was a little more but I'm taking the risk that these will last as advertised. At the time of this posting, my oldest bulbs are 6 months old and lasted through two polar vortexes (-1 - 90 degrees F) and quite a few wind and rain storms. I checked clear instructions but if you changed a light bulb in the house, you can change these...though I would still recommend tripping the breaker just to be safe. February 4, 2014
