Customer Questions & Answers

Can this be used as an extension for a refridgerator/freezer?

Asked by: ginny
Absolutely not. Wire size is not large enough for a major appliance (fridge, freezer, clothes washer, window AC, etc.). Ideally you should not use an extension cord with a major appliance. But if you must I would recommend a 14 gauge or if the wiring in the wall will support it a 12 gauge. In any event use the shortest extension cord that will work. Best option is to have an electrician move the outlet. Fridges and freezers especially run a lot which can generate a lot of heat in insufficient wiring. This is why an extension cord is not recommended for this application.

what it the difference between a 14 & 16 gauge extension cord?

I bought a B & D electric edger and it calls for a 14 Gauge cord, will a 16 do?
Asked by: Anonymous
The gauge, a 14 gauge can carry more current with less voltage drop, It can better run equipment that had a bigger current draw. Typically a 16 gauge cord is for lower power consuming uses. a 100 ft 16 gauge cord is good for 10 amps or (1200 watts) generally and a 100 ft 14 gauge cord is 15 amps (1800 watts) generally. Read the packaging and labeling to make sure you are not over loading the extension cord.

Had been using a 50' and dealing with it being frozen and hard to manage. Now this length is perfect for the job! It would be great if it also came in green or brown (for lawn decorations) that don't need more than a few feet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Extension Cord Well, I needed a 3 prong heavy duty extension cord. This was inexpensive and heavy duty. It works like an extension cord should. There's not much more to elaborate on this purchase. There's nothing to assemble, You don't need instructions to follow. IT'S AN EXTENSION CORD!!
