I bought this unit to cool my 20' x 25' garage (which has no insulation and open rafters) where I offer dog training. It gets hot enough to cook things and melt rubber in the summer (not an exaggeration). In spite of the impossible job, the unit does a great job at keeping the garage comfortable. On the recent 90 degree day, although it slowly lost the battle as the outside temp climbed and the sun was beating down on the uninsulated and unvented dark roof, by 2pm it was still keeping the garage about 10 degrees cooler than the outside air. Installation was easy. Just slipped it into the hole in the wall I framed in and plugged it in! In a better insulated space, this unit would be great! And I plan to insulate the garage, so this will only get better for us. I especially like the "auto-on" feature because I can program it to start early each morning and don't have to get up early just to go turn it on (though I do have to re-set that each evening when I turn it off). The filter is easy to access and the unit is holding up to the dust quite well. Only issue is that it "spits" water (condensation) from the front of the unit on really hot days. Not an issue in my space, but could be an issue inside a home or if you want to sit in front of the unit.

Bought the air conditioner last year, worked great up until yesterday. All of the sudden the unit seemed to get stuck in cooling mode and would not shut off. None of the buttons on the control panel worked, only way to reset was to unplug it. After that it worked for a few hours, then started doing the same thing again. I unplugged it again, now it won't come back on at all. The display lights up like it normally should when it's first plugged in, but then everything goes dark and it's completely dead. The power light on the cable plug is lit up, so I know power is good up to there. I attempted to call GE and they basically said they would not cover it. because it's just outside of the one year warranty. What does that tell you when a company will only cover their products for a single year? Maybe because that company knows that it will almost certainly fail soon after. I can tell you honestly that this will be the last GE product I ever buy.

This is the first GE air conditioner that I have purchased and it cools my 12 x 12 room in no time. I bought this unit at Cluett's in Ludlow ,MA and the service was very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend it

Please don't buy this air conditioner. My experience with GE air conditioners has been poor. The first GE unit 12,000 BTU unit purchased for this location lasted 5 years exactly. It worked fine until it quit (lost refrigerant). The current unit, Model AEW12APW1 Serial No. FV548133 was purchased in March 2011. It died this week, again the issue is refrigerant loss. These units only have a 1 year warranty I don't know if some other manufacturer has a better warranty but I am beginning a search today. I have had a similar experience with a GE side by side 24 cubic foot refrigerator, it lasted exactly 5 years (refrigerant loss). Yes, I am now anti-GE, I think they have forgotten how to build durable refrigeration units.

Me and the wife bought this fridge almost 12 months ago for replacment of an 18 year old refridge. has some realy nice features BUT ice thrue the door has a problem getting ice in the glass half ends up on floor or stuck in shute door. The only other negitive is that it tends to bee noisy when differnt things operate exp: ice maker making ice.

I bought this 12000 BTU air conditioner a month ago. Put it in a hole in the wall of my living room. Small package and cools great. Remote works great and it's a good thing because the hole in the wall was for a swamp cooler that is at the top of my vaulted ceiling and would be hard to get to, to push the buttons.

The hot weather has arrived, and so has our new air conditioner. It seems to be doing the job as advertised, was easy to install and (so far) we are very happy. Really appreciate the advice we were given in the store (before a/c had arrived for the season) to go online. Thanks to the helpful staff at Home Depot!

The unit works great and is quiet. The top of the unit had a dent in it and there was no damage to the box. Doesnt affect operation and you can't see the dent after I installed it but this unit should have never been shipped. Not worth the hassle to send back!
