13,000-Watt Air-Cooled Generator System and Remote Power Monitor-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well made & works I saw this Generator at Home Depot on sale & my daughter & I each bought one & had it installed in our homes. ( a local generator company ) The unit was $2800 on sale. The total spent was about $5500. Now the unit is built by briggs & stratton. So you know it is a good unit. I have my high voltage modual hooked up to the stove & AC unit. My daughter has her's hooked up to stove & dryer. No AC..go figure. She lost power last month & the unit came on & it ran her AC along with the clothes dryer. She had no problems. 2 weeks ago I came home & the wife told me "I missed it!" She said we lost power & she heard the generator start up & about 30 seconds later everything came back on. She said it was so cool. Now for you people who think you need a big generator. Last year I had my portable generator running & I had 3 rooms on. I noticed we were using 1000 watts & it jumped when my wife started the microwave to 2500 watts. This started me thinking, You do not run everything in the house at the same time. Why do I need a 18 or 20KW generator? Right after that I found this GE 13KW Generator. The Generator Gods were smiling. One installer argued with me that this generator would not start my AC. He said he's been doing this for 20 years & that 13KW was to small for my house. The company that did install it said it would work fine. They found the install easy to do. When they tested the unit, I had the AC on & the oven, & 3 burners on before it tripped. They were impressed. I have this hooked up to natural gas. So I do not have to worry about running out of fuel. My advise is to get one to protect your home before troulbe strikes. It can take a couple of months to get it completed. So you do not want to wait until a storm is on the way. I have always had portable generators & as I am older I got tired of trying to buy enough gas in case we lost power. PLUS what to do with the gas if I did not use it. It is so nice not to have to do anything but pause for 30 seconds & poof! the lights are back on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased this product about a year ago, and I'm very glad I did. This is one of the best products that I could of purchased for our home. We have power outages on a fairly regular basis, and the generator is always there to the rescue. It's funny when the power goes out, everybody just stops and listens for a few seconds. Then we hear the purrr of the generator and everybody is like wow it's not a big deal now. We just had a power outage for 9.0 hours and the generator kept us going thru the evening and night. We are very happy with the quality, design and overall performance of the generator. I would buy again if we moved for some reason in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GE Generator out smarts the competition Our GE 13KW whole house generator and power management center is the second whole house generator we have owned. Our GE system is smarter than the competition, due to its unique power management system. We only needed this unit not one larger for our home, but with a competitors model it would have been a larger unit. We travel most of the winter and our home is in a very rural area. The neighbors were envious that we had power to keep the house warm and freezer running while others had no power many times this past winter. It was the best insurance we could have gotten for our new home. The unit is attractive, and fits nicely in the space we allocated for it. It runs quieter than the competitors model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value and performance. Installation was easier than expected. Line and generator power are supplied to the cut-over switch, which is of good quality and works well. You don't need another breaker panel. My generator is set up for LP which initially involved changing a jet (supplied) in the carburetor, a pretty easy process. Unit started up quickly the first time and continues to start quickly. As an engineer, I checked voltage and frequency: both were within spec at no-load. While I did not yet check waveform distortion, all appliances and home electronics work as expected, so I'd expect that the generator is suppling clean power. The generator already took me through one power outage performing well with good regulation under varying loads. Unit appears to be constructed well for the price and intended application. The generator is louder than some ofher models on the market but less noisey than my portable generator powered by a Briggs Vanguard V-twin gasoline engine. Unit performs a weekly test at a date/time that you set. This is OK--and standard practice to assure readiness--but this may be too frequent for some as it wastes fuel and increases wear slightly. The panel allows the unit to be turned off which then stops the weekly tests but also takes it out of automatic mode, so this may not likely be recommended by the manufacturer nor for most users. The panel's digital display shows run time hours, helpful for scheduling maintenance. Oil changes are easy. While performing the first oil change, I noticed mine consumed a little oil but this may be normal during break-in especially as mine ran continuously in 90+ degree weather with 5W30 oil. Overall, this is unit impresses me as a good value. My informal survey of installers and small engine repair shops indicated significantly better reliability than a popular competing model from another 'G' manufacturer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty of power- good economic choice This unit has plenty of power to run a large home. Most of the time there will not be enough draw to utilize much power. The modules GE offers provides a way to hook up everything without spending a ton on the unit or on gas when it runs.  By being smarter than the competition this unit offers it all by powering all necessities and determining if there is power left for extra items such as the air conditioner.  Mine easily powered an electric cooktop with 3 burners running and a double electric range with 15 amps to spare. If you have a gas furnace and water heater anything bigger would be a waste of money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Seelessly! I decided to install a standby generator for "piece of mind" as part of my new house construction. (New house construction is a great time to consider one). We live in California, and I've lived though large storms and earthquakes that can knock out power for a while. I chose this GE 13KW model because of its compact size, the good power match for a large energy-efficient home, and the ability to switch to our dryer or AC (which are high-power devices) using the power management modules. Those modules basically monitor if enough power is available (ie. enough devices turned off in our house), before it will enable the high-power devices. The generator has only gone on for a blackout lasting 5 minutes - I consider these short outages as good test runs and was glad to see the electrical system automatically switch over to the generator! Another bonus - the system automatically runs itself for 20 minutes each week for maintenance. The generator is a little noisy (like a lawn mower) - but I feel it is acceptable because it is for 'standby'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big results in a small package Purchased ours when they first came out 3 years ago, and it's paid for itself big time in not having to leave New Orleans for storms- no power is no fun in August heat. Runs great- and the power modules let you run a big AC with entire house, and not spend extra on big gas line runs. It's sad the public still wastes money on over-sized generators, when the brains/software of GE units do the same for so much less- and save on space as they only 18" from a building- not the 3+ feet others require. Very Satisfied....
