Hi, I'm Brenda with GE.
Thanks for your interest in this GE freezer.
The estimated yearly cost of operation is $60. This will also depend on your utility rates and use. This cost is based on a 2007 national average electricity cost of 10.65 cents per KWH.
I hope this is helpful. Should you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate letting us know, we are always glad to help.

Hi, My name is Kim. Thank you for your interest in GE Refrigerators. We do not recommend installing a refrigerator where temperatures will go below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, the unit is less efficient and will continue to lose efficiency as the outdoor temperature decreases. At 32 degrees, there is no cooling capability at all.
It is not recommended that refrigerators be used in unheated locations, such as garages, porches, or unheated rooms during periods when the temperature is likely to fall below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the oil could become thick and not circulate properly.
Refrigeration systems rely on the boiling of freon under pressure and heat. If the outside temperature is not sufficient, the freon will not boil to a vapor and no cooling will take place. Low temperatures can also fool the thermostat into thinking proper temperatures have been reached.
I hope this helps. If other questions come up, please let us know. I appreciate your buying GE.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 76 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by With only a month of ownership, it's a bit early to review but so far, so good. All features working well. In this size range, this model offered the best features. June 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Freezer The whole experience of buying a new freezer has been wonderful. The people at Home Depot scheduled my delivery in a 4 hour window on the day of my choice. The delivery truck was at my house right in the middle of the timeframe. The freezer itself is great. It has a slight humming sound but I find that I enjoy hearing it in the background, and it is really not noticeable if you are more than 10 feet away. It cools off very quickly and was ready for use very soon after being plugged in. I love the temperature control on the door, the ability to lock it, and the warnings for an open door or warm temperatures. Great product! Well worth the money. July 24, 2010
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Rattles the entire house I purchased this freezer in July and ever since it has rattled so loud in our mud room that it sounds like a Piper Cub airplane is landing. We attempted to have it fixed once, but nothing was done. Sounds like the condensor or fan or both, coming from the inside back (at top) of the freezer. I've had GE freezers before with few problems, but must have gotten a lemon this time. Hopefully, the next repairman can fix it or just replace it. MUCH too loud, Put your trays in their upward position, as 5-7 times a day this freezer will be so loud the air traffic control folks will be spooked. November 27, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GE Freezer - Excellent Choice! The price was right + free shipping, deliver & haul away of old appliance. The freezer works really well, is quiet, layout makes it easy to locate products and is simple to use. The appearance is nice as well/texture is easy to keep clean and we like the external digital reading. Energy efficiency is also a great point (uses less than 1/3 of the kwh than my old GE freezer that was 20+ years old). The ROI is less than two years. Did a lot of research and most brands/models are comparable so price and reviews are the tie-breakers. Overall, we are extremely pleased and feel we made an excellent choice! March 20, 2010
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Runs Noisy and Often I have had this freezer for a few weeks and it drives me crazy. It sounds like an old rusty metal clock wheel, that turns and turns, grinding away. Perhaps I got a bad unit, but I plan to return it very soon! It does freeze nicely, but the sounds will drive you crazy, and I have a large house. I erroneously assumed that the reviews I read stating it was noisy, were from people who lived in small homes and it would not be a problem in my large home...not true, even with the door to my indoor pantry shut, you can hear this beast from two rooms away. I can see why they lowered the price again. January 3, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Nice We had been considering buying an extra freezer for years then we found ourselves with no freezer space and 1/4 of a cow coming from a group purchase. I pulled up consumer reports and found this as a best buy for features versus price. I was a little apprehensive because the only way to get it was to order online (no local pickup) but it arrived quickly and they put it in our basement no problem. While smaller than some models we looked at, this thing is really quite large and not that heavy. I'm very happy with the purchase and the price was very fair for a self defrost upright model. July 23, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Frost-free I have recently purchased the frost-free freezer since I am a senior citizen with arthritis who had to defrost and clean the previous appliance. I had to wait until the temperature was below freezing outside so that I coud transfer the contents to that environment while I defrosted and cleaned that one. That I don't have to do that this year is a wonderful and freeing realization. Everything is brightly lit and easily accessible in this new upright. I am able to take advantage of sales and be stocked up for the winter days not too far ahead. The freezer is somewhat noisier than my previous one, but its other features easily make up for that. Overall, I could not be more pleased with this purchase. September 26, 2009
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer Freezer was delivered about 3 months ago and old one taken away with no problems. I was concerned about noise since many freezers I've read about had noise complaints. I am happy to find out this runs very quiet. Temperature. I put a freezer thermometer in and was please to see running evenly at 0 degrees on a number 4 setting. Also please to find this freezer made in USA and Energy Star compliant. Instructions tell you to wipe out freezer with water and backing soda mix before use. Overall: Everything was and remains positive and I can recommend it. April 4, 2010
