Hi, I'm Brenda with GE.
Thanks for your interest in this GE freezer.
The estimated yearly cost of operation is $60. This will also depend on your utility rates and use. This cost is based on a 2007 national average electricity cost of 10.65 cents per KWH.
I hope this is helpful. Should you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate letting us know, we are always glad to help.

Hi, My name is Kim. Thank you for your interest in GE Refrigerators. We do not recommend installing a refrigerator where temperatures will go below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, the unit is less efficient and will continue to lose efficiency as the outdoor temperature decreases. At 32 degrees, there is no cooling capability at all.
It is not recommended that refrigerators be used in unheated locations, such as garages, porches, or unheated rooms during periods when the temperature is likely to fall below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the oil could become thick and not circulate properly.
Refrigeration systems rely on the boiling of freon under pressure and heat. If the outside temperature is not sufficient, the freon will not boil to a vapor and no cooling will take place. Low temperatures can also fool the thermostat into thinking proper temperatures have been reached.
I hope this helps. If other questions come up, please let us know. I appreciate your buying GE.

13.7 cu. ft. Frost Free Upright Freezer in White is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 76.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wonderful to look at but...... We had ours less than 3 years. It was GREAT while it worked but the compressor burned up and I didn't buy an extended 3 year warranty. I figured GE should put more faith in their products and make a better appliance. I was wrong! A new compressor was $400 so we junked it and bought a smaller Magic chef with a five year warranty cheaper than the cost of replacing the compressor! Good Luck!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Product After reading previous reviews on this and other sites, I was a bit leary about the freezer. It does run a bit louder than the old freezer we replaced but anything frost-free tends to run a bit louder, even our refridgerator. Even though we placed it in our attached garage, I do not find the noise level excessive or disturbing; it certainly is not an obnoxious sound. We've had it a month and I am super satisfied thus far. The temperature readout on the door is a wonderful feature for noting any power outages and the alarm feature will be great for any malfunctions. The door locks and unlocks easily for added security. The size is perfect for the two of us. The delivery was very quick and the delivery men made sure I was happy with the freezer positioning and door swing before they left.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! Delivery was excellent. They came on time and were friendly made sure the freezer started up. We waited the four hours recommended then slowly started putting previously frozen food inside. We liked the fact that it is frost free and doesn't require a manual defrost. Freezer is pretty quiet and doesn't make much noise but it is located in the garage so that could be why we don't notice it much. Overall I would recommend this freezer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Freezer I really like the shelves, sliding drawer, door storage, and temp. indicator on the door. I do NOT like the noise! At first I assumed the freezer was working overtime trying to achieve the desired temp,, but three days later and it still sounds like a raging blizzard in my laundry room. If noise is a concern I would NOT recomment this unit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Runs Noisy and Often I have had this freezer for a few weeks and it drives me crazy. It sounds like an old rusty metal clock wheel, that turns and turns, grinding away. Perhaps I got a bad unit, but I plan to return it very soon! It does freeze nicely, but the sounds will drive you crazy, and I have a large house. I erroneously assumed that the reviews I read stating it was noisy, were from people who lived in small homes and it would not be a problem in my large home...not true, even with the door to my indoor pantry shut, you can hear this beast from two rooms away. I can see why they lowered the price again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Freezer The whole experience of buying a new freezer has been wonderful. The people at Home Depot scheduled my delivery in a 4 hour window on the day of my choice. The delivery truck was at my house right in the middle of the timeframe. The freezer itself is great. It has a slight humming sound but I find that I enjoy hearing it in the background, and it is really not noticeable if you are more than 10 feet away. It cools off very quickly and was ready for use very soon after being plugged in. I love the temperature control on the door, the ability to lock it, and the warnings for an open door or warm temperatures. Great product! Well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has features I was looking for Delivery guys were efficient. Product has a lot of room and after only one week since delivery cools down to zero easily and seems to maintain temperature. Door lock and controls are easy to use and well placed. I was pleasantly surprised at how much this size holds. Glad to see that the two of us didn't need the 20 cubic foot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected I'm very happy overall with this freezer. Nice, spacious interior, handy door shelves, the basket on the bottom provide lots of organized space. I was concerned about the noise level based on other reviews, but mine does not make a lot of noise. I keep it in my basement, so maybe I'm not aware of it, but when I go downstairs and the compressor is running, the noise is fine.
