Hello,
Thank you for your quesiton on the GE Electronic Window Air Conditioner model AEL14AQ.
The air conditioner has the potential to go as low as 64 degrees. The outdoor temperatures, room size, and location of the unit will have a huge effect on how cool the room can get. It can not go lower than 64 degrees.

model # AEL14AQ.
Depth to Louvers: 6.6875"
Min./Max. Window Opening Width: 26" / 41" (with side curtains)
The air conditioner can be installed without the side curtains if needed. The ez-mount window kit does not come with a support bracket. All supporting parts must be secured to firm wood, masonry or meta.
Through-the-wall installation is not appropriate if any of the side or top louvers in the case will be obstructed by the wall. All side and top louvers in the case must project on the outdoor side of the wall. The room side of the case must project into the room far enough to maximize the
balance of the unit.
Flashing is required and should extend the length of the opening to ensure no inside
cavity leakage occurs.
I hope this helps!

They assume that you are going to use the accordion type side panels. But you don't have to use them. I only used them on one side.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use but need patience for installation. Got this for $350.00 because it was out of the box and my girlfriend asked if we could get it for less. Anyway, when I got home I didn't really know that I had to get the unit out of the case. Good thing I was prepared with the tools that I use for work. I used a power tool to remove the screws. Just make sure you don't lose them. Installation was very simple and easy took me about an hour just because it was over 80 degree and a humid afternoon. After installing the case on the the window everything was simple, slide unit back in (2 people needed) and put the screws back in. Just make sure you follow directions and shouldn't have an Issue. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT BUY I'm not new to installations... But: I Spent 1 hour JUST TRYING to take ac out of the its body. (there is no other way to install it) First you install body, 2nd you install inside parts. Two ppl needed. Two person holding/pushing/pulling. Result? Crooked body, and inside part didn't even move. AC is going back to the store. Oh, I forgot. Make sure that you have gloves so you dont cut yourself. And make sure that you have different sizes of screwdriver. And be veeery careful. Wires, and tubes are everywhere. Wrong move, your work is done. GE, can you make it easy for your clients? June 5, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Satisfied with the Unit This is the largest capacity 115 V unit I could find that would fit in a 26" window. I am very satisfied with it after a few days. It's quiet, has good cooling performance and the 24 hour timer allows you to shut it off when leaving the house and have it power on and cool the house down for your return. Interestingly, if you skip the accordion side panels it will go into a window smaller than 26" (but you have to make up foam side panels for it). Installation takes about 2 hours and requires a second person to lift the unit (it's heavy). Negatives: The instructions were a little sketchy at some points. Also, the cord is really short and problematic if your outlet is on the right side of the machine. July 7, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible Product When we opened the box there were screws that just fell right out. We checked for all the parts, but there were bolts and nuts missing. We had to use our own.Took forever (5 hours) to install and when we finally got it installed we turned it on and it sounded like the fan was going to rip right out of the air conditioner. It shakes and vibrates and we're afraid it's going to shake lose from the window. Says it should cool about 700 sq ft but it cant even cool a 400 sq ft room. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR MONEY. We are returning this air conditioner for a refund. July 23, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very Disappointed Bought this air conditioner a couple months ago. Was first very upset to learn that the unit had to be removed from its metal case to install the side curtains. Because of the weight, prepare for a 2 man job. Then despite reviewing the electrical requirements prior to purchase, it will not consistently run on a circuit with a 20 amp breaker. Must now have an electrician set up a dedicated circuit. Had I the known issues with setup and the true electrical needs, would NOT have purchased this unit. July 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good looking unit. This product was just the right size and in the right price range for what I needed it for. Features are great and the overall appearance is nice. June 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing AC cools my living room and Kitchen!!! I just got this on saturday and Im in LOVE with this product!!! I live in a mobile home, in a very hot dry climate and it cools my living room and the kitchen . Yes it took almost all day to install but that was because we did through the wall installation and didn't want to pay the extra money to have someone else install it. I believe GE is a good quality brand and decided to go with this one other than the LG.. I will finally be happy this summer!!!! July 2, 2013
