Hello FunFun1,
This is Donna with GE and I wil be happy to assist you with your question on the GE 14,000 BTU Electronic Window Air Conditioner model # AEL14AQ.
Yes, it can be installed into a bedroom window. The sone rating, noise level rating or decibel rating of an air conditioner is not a rating that is listed. It is not a requirement of the government nor is it required by Underwriters' Laboratories when submitting a unit for UL listing.
There are many normal noises associated with Room Air Conditioners. Below are the more common noises:
* Air Flow Noise: An air conditioner must circulate indoor air to heat/cool the occupied space. Therefore, air noise will be heard when the fan is operating.
* Thermostat Click: When the compressor cycles on and off a metallic sound may be heard. This is considered normal.
* Water Dripping Outside: Air conditioners must be installed level or slightly tilted to the outside for proper water disposal. Consult the installation instructions for your model. On exceptionally hot and humid days the air conditioner may permit excess water to pass thru the rear drain tube or overflow. This is considered normal operation.
* Fan Runs Continuously: When the energy selector is the cool or fan position the fan will run continuously. this is normal operation.
* Front grille loose: Room cabinet or moveable air directional louvers are loose or broken. They can be fixed by adjusting then snapping back as normal.
* Improper installation: This may cause a vibration in windowsill. Check that the side panels are properly fastened to the window frame and windowsill with screws.
I hope this helps! Read Less

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Assembly horrible works good I can't believe you would have to disassemble the whole air conditioner just to put brackets on. Very poor planning on ge. Once assembled works nice two stars for assembly May 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not avaiable in any stores Home Depot should stop advertizing this AC--it is not available anywhere in our area and they will not ship to a store from another site. April 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Died within two years. Very dissappointed. I bought this unit less than two years ago and it recently stopped working. Called the GE repairman (since you can't get anyone else to service window units) which cost me $100 just for him to come to the house and he told me that it had a leak in the system that would cost more than the cost to simply replace it. My previous one from another manufacturer lasted much longer. I am really disappointed that this one died so quickly. August 18, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Unit, strange engineering miss This A/C was as described in the literature. Took some modification for me to install as I was putting it into a non-sash window, but install was easy once I got the cabinet in place. A very strange engineering omission exists, however, in that no condensation hole outlet was placed in the cabinet, and I had to call for a service check because the water in the condensation tray was being pulled up by the external fan, and making lots of noise while the A/C was running. Really, a pretty poor follow through on a very elementary need. The technician drilled an exit hole for the condensate, outside of the room being cooled, and all works fine now. July 31, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent unit Had originally purchased a 12K btu LG portable unit to replace my old GE 12K btu window model that died. I left it running all day (85 degrees) and was very disappointed - hardly cooled my living room. Exchanged it for this GE model and I am very happy. Within an hour I knew I had made the right choice. A bit a of a pain to assemble and awkward to put in the window because of the size/weight, but this is to be expected. Definitely want a rear support with this monster! Generally satisfied with the performance, and its very quiet too which is nice. Would recommend to anyone looking to cool a decent sized room or small house without going to 220 volts. June 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works great works great cools our one story home. love the automatic controls. July 14, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good buy I'm very happy with my purchase, this unit keeps two rooms of my home very comfortable and cool during high temperatures. This air conditioner was the best buy and quality for my needs!!!! June 24, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by damaged this product was damaged on arrival. I had no knowledge of this until we opened the box to have our maintenance people install in the window. Had to deal with GE customer service which was a convoluted mess. I await a replacement and will be sure to have that unboxed and thoroughly checked by the delivery personnel. Disappointing, to say the least. May 23, 2012
