Why can't I use this plug for my rice cooker?

My plug for my rice cooker wore out and I bought this one, only in black. After I stripped the insulation off the wires I read that it said Not To, so I cut it off and now I can't get it to close. I try to follow directions but the wire seems too thick for this type of plug. Could that be why it won't close?

Answer:
This plug is compatible with 18 – 16 gauge wires and if the steamer wire is a larger gauge wire then it would be too big to be used.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by I don't have them yet These are easy to use, too bad they never came in the mail July 1, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed I had to read directions on how to install this plug end and still had trouble. Would not pierce insulation as designed. Had to make cuts for the metal prongs. I am surprised GE put their name on this product. February 19, 2015
