Answer:
Dear Mike,
We reached out to the MFG with your question and below is their response.
"The receptacle in the 52149 Handy Switch is located on the front of the item so that it mirrors the way the switch plugs into the wall receptacle. We have added another image of the product to the website that shows the outlet. You should be able to see it on the webpage in 3 to 5 days."

Answer:
Horizontally, in the front. This just goes between the wall and your appliance. Picture yourself plugging directly into the wall...okay, now just put this unit in between. It is the same configuration as far as plugging in, just with the switch in the middle...make sense?

Answer:
Mike,
Appliance plugs into the side opposite the prongs shown in the picture; in other words, the backside of the device as shown in the picture. This is a very handy device; very convenient.
Yes, a second view of the device would be nice.

Answer:
Augustus, this switch is for indoors use only. Unfortunately the old packaging doesn’t have this on there but the new packaging does. Unfortunately we do not make an outdoor version of this switch.

15-Amp Toggle Handy Switch - White is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from wish I had this earlier I have 2 fluorescent lights in the basement without switches. They required plugging and unplugging every time I needed light: clumsy and inconvenient. I searched all over for switches like these for years but could only find 2-prong examples. Thanks to the internet I found these deliverable to a Home Depot store. Now it is a simple matter of flipping the switch to have light. But — why does Home Depot (and other stores, for that matter) not keep these in stock? At $12 each these are not cheap, but they do the job, provide a great convenience, and ought to last a lifetime. Switches do wear out or break, and I have had these only a matter of weeks, but they seem to be well made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice toggle switch Nice product. Easy flick of the switch. I am using this switch to turn on-off a 4ft shop light instead of always plugging or unplugging the power cord. Makes life just that must easier. It's been working great for a month now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for switching off 3-prong appliances I bought two of these thinking they'd be handy. They are. They allow you to switch off electric/electronic gear when it's not being used. My first application was a digital toaster oven in the kitchen. It doesn't have a clock, just digital controls, but LEDs on the panel are always "on". Not any more; I can switch it on when I want to use it. These will handle any 3-prong appliance drawing 15 A or less.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working As Intended. Appears well built. It is solid not flimsy. ON/OFF clearly marked. The toggle itself has a distinctive feel from ON/OFF positions. The GE Grounding Handy Switch is literally "handy".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product Great product, wish they carried it in the store. On line delivery to store took longer than I had hoped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 15-Amp Toggle Handy Switch - White Only issue is the off position is UP. Not a big deal, just odd to me. Does not take up the whole double socket. Use it for a coffee grinder that does not have an off switch, but is programmed to "rest".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect I needed to switch off a 220/110 heavy duty transformer that I use to power a coffee maker I bought from Australia. I was concerned that it would take the wattage needed, no problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great switch small, doesn't block the second outlet, doesn't rotate or wiggle in the socket. I have 1 plugged into a toaster oven, and it handles the current just fine
