I install and have an 18/20k system generator since 2007. Mine also sounds like it is missing each week when it exercises and has since day one. However, when under load it runs smooth and works perfect. I also had an issue with multiple attempts to start before it would finally start. I found if I taped the Regulator control board relay it would start the first time. I then replaced the Regulator Control board and since 2014 have not missed a beat or any problems when I have a loss of normal power. Operates both A/C units in the summer plus 2 refrigerators and a freezer and sump pumps. No issues using other home appliances during any outage. The only thing I did do was to place the pool heater on a relay that shuts down the pool and heater power. Mainly because the heater is a 300,000 btu gas unit which I didn't want taking gas pressure away from the backup generator.

It can take up to 5 attemps to start on auto, 3 times not starting at all. Installer has been good about responding. Still don't trust the unit because of this. Motor sounds like it is missing when it is running. I was told at the time of installation that this would happen. I was told by the Tech that Briggs & Stratton say this is acceptable & should clear up with time. The tech also speculated that the electronic gov. may be an issue. It just sounds like it might cut off when running after spending that much money.

We had 30 guests at our house for Thanksgiving dinner. At 12:30, when 3 ovens, the cooktop, 3 crock pots, the coffee pot, 3 refrigerators and two freezers all were in full swing, a skidding vehilcle took out a utility pole. Within a minute, our new generator was at nearly max output, and powered our house for 4 hours. Can you imagine the disaster, if we had not installed this great generator just the month before? We would have had no lights, no heat, no water (no flush!), no food; many calls to the power company... as it was, not many of the guests were even aware of what had happened. Thank you, GE, and thanks to Pete, John and Pat who did the installation.

The generator looks good, but looks are deceiving. The gen has 4.6 hrs on it and doesn't run. The time we needed power, it failed. We have two codes which are flashing "under voltage and under frequency". We have contacted GE over three weeks ago and still no word as to when it will be fixed or replaced.
I choose GE over all the other brands thinking it would be of high quality above all other standards. I now wish I went with another manufacturer and probably would had saved some money.

We purchased a generator early summer and we love it!!! A week after it was installed our power went out and within a few minutes the generator kicked on and left us with ease and comfort. I would recommend a home generator to anyone. Of course the whole experience would not be complete until we mention our great electrician- George Basile. He was wonderful. He made sure we understood everything and spent time going over all that we needed to know and then some. He even called a week later to make sure the generator came on as scheduled for the weekly test and if that wasn't enough he stopped by twice to check around. He is truly a consciences and highly trained skilled professional. We would recommend him to anyone. Thanks George!!

We've had our 17Kw generator over 4 years and it has performed flawlessly. We loose power 6-8 times a year and every time the generator kicks in within 90-120 seconds and powers us back up. I bought this size to run our central A/C in the summer which is has.
Last Christmas we had a sever ice storm and lost power for 5 ½ days. We powered our two neighbors plus our house with no problems. During this ice storm outage, I shut down the generator every two days just to check the oil. After 5 ½ days of near constant running, it was a little over ¼ quart low…no big deal.
We have the generator serviced annually by our installer to keep it in tip-top shape. Best money you can spend. I recommend this generator to anyone think of getting one.

Purchased and installed 9/26/12 as of 10/4/12 it was noticed leaking oil after its second weekly exercise cycle (40 total minutes of run time). GE expects this to be repaired instead of replacing after only 1.5 hrs of total run time (exercise / assessment of leak) and will not replace what is basically a defective product straight from the factory and expects the customer to absorb the cost of downtime for their poor manufacturing quality or lack of quality controls. Any other reputable manufacturer would stand behind their products. If this generator were a year old, the repair would more easily be accepted. This product should be considered defective / refurbished and the customer given a reasonable discount if it is expected to be repaired.
