Rated 5 out of 5 by A great product with excellent cooling capacity I purchased this unit to cool a huge living/dining room area (40x20 ft) with high cathedral ceilings. This unit was purchased to replace an older unit that died with the same btu rating and has maintained a wonderful 72 degrees during some 100 degree days this last week and occasionally shutdown into energy saving mode. I can't wait to see how much this unit saves me over the older non energy saving brand. This unit according to the specs was 26x18" which would have been an exact match for the old unit. But was actually smaller at 23.5x17.5 this required building out the frame in the wall which was not a huge problem and would not be any issue if window mounting the unit. July 10, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by so far so good seems like a great ac, bought it to replace my broken Frigidaire Air Conditioner 18,500 BTU FAS185N2A ac ... it cools down 3 large rooms FAST, is quiet and so far so good. Only had a little over a week now so time will tell. The price was ok, wish ac's were not so darn expensive, but for what it is, it matches the price to what I paid for the ac it replaced and I bought that back in '07. Plus installing these heavy window ac's is never fun and it was just as difficult as any other large window ac, but it was tough and took 3 hours to totally get it in. couldn't turn it on for 24 hours since it was put on it's side by the delivery guys to wheel it in the house. if this one lasts at least 5 years too, then I'll be happy March 12, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by So Far So Good For me it installed the same as any other Window AC. It was pretty easy besides lifting that weight above my head, with help from small pulley. First thing I noticed was how quiet this 18000 BTU AC was. Very quiet compared to all the other AC's I've owned. One thing I don't like is that the temp only goes down to 64 F. I personally wish it went lower, but maybe that's just me. Only thing I can't tell you is how long it will last. Only had it for a couple of weeks. Seems to be well built, so I hope it lasts many years. May 21, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great A/c My husband and I bought this air conditioner as it had great reviews, was energy star certified, was touted as quiet, and had a remote. The installation directions were a bit difficult to read, but together we figured it out. Overall, the a/c is quiet, but it seems to be inconsistent with our house's thermostat. The air conditioner will claim that it is 2-3 degrees cooler in the house than the thermostat that is close to it reads. Also, on Energy Saver mode, the a/c will turn on and run for about 30 seconds, turn off for 2-3 seconds, and kick back on and run until the goal temperature is reached. Not something I have had happen with other air conditioners in the past, but nothing is particularly wrong. The remote is particularly handy and works with your other GE air conditioners. Overall, good a/c unit! July 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good, with only one warning. I haven't had weather higher than than close to 90 to test it in yet. But so far it does well. The only real complaint that I have is that the directions for installing it in a window that isn't the standard type, is confusing. For some windows, you may have to just think about it, and use some wisdom. The weight of the unit will probably give you enough of a slant, even if it might appear to be level when you are putting it in. Make sure you have it at it's slant, and set the braces at that, before you put it in for good. It has good air flow, and will cool a large area very well. The 240 V units like this one will give you much better efficiency than the 120 V units. I went for the extended warranty that Home Depot offered. It may save you a lot of trouble and money if you can afford it. I had a bad experience with a Frigidaire air conditioner that had only the manufacturers warranty. I feel safer with a store warranty, they are usually better. And these things can break down, even ones with good reviews. April 30, 2013
