We've been running this refrigerator for a few weeks. We purchased it for our office to replace a larger 23 cubic foot side by side that we hated. Even though this is smaller, the wider space is more functional.
Explanation of my 5 star rating:
For what it is, it is as good as one expects. We've owned Sub Zero refrigerators, a much higher quality and equally more expensive appliance.
This is very quiet. In the quiet of the office, you can hear the compressor when it runs. The level of sound is fine and I deplore appliance noise. I read the reviews that complained about noise and as they were a minority, took a gamble because GE calls the product line "Deluxe Quiet Design." Why they did not call for service escapes me.
I rated the quality as good, because that is all one should expect for this price. The shelves and drawers do not have a cheap or flimsy feel.
I used a digital thermometer to get the refrigerator temperature as close to 35 deg as possible and left the thermometer inside for 2 weeks or so. Temperature ranged from 34.9 to 37 degrees. Nothing froze and the temperature appears to be even at different levels and locations.
The only feature missing that I would like is a light for the freezer. The freezer is small enough for ambient light to reach inside.
We purchased the five year extended service plan, a prudent investment. They cover up to $300 for food loss.
The doors and handle are brushed stainless, but the sides are black to my surprise. However, I am not disappointed. Stainless needs a bit more cleaning. My wife wanted stainless, so stainless it is.
If 18 cubic feet is the size you need, this is an excellent appliance and value.
Due to the absence of inside photos, I've taken a few. The food should give you a better idea of actual space.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rona Do not purchase this, it is junk!
I purchased this refrigerator in September 2013 and it is now only March 2014 and already the stainless steel is rusting all over the front, there are little specs of rust through out. I called customer service who was quite rude from the start but then only offered to send me a rust remover. Seriously!?! A 6 month old brand new refrigerator should not be rusting in the first place. I was told there is nothing else they will do for me except send me the rust remover. I will never purchase anything from GE as they use less than adequate materials in their products. Save you money and shop for a different company.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mar22 great refrigerator
After reading several reviews that said this refrigerator was so noisy, I was almost reluctant to purchase it. But the price was right and we already had a smaller GE refrigerator that we wanted to replace so I figured I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did! When the delivery man plugged it in, I held my breath, waiting for the long loud annoying noises. There was NOTHING! Just the normal hum of any refrigerator. The appearance is very nice, the inside is roomy and I like the glass shelves. For the price it was well worth it and for once, I was happy I didn't listen to the reviews.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by KaiD Very Loud & Noisy GE Refrigerator
I like the stainless look of this refrigerator Model # GTZ18GBESS and it is cooling well. The door squeaks when opening it. I refer to this refrigerator as the GE Regional Airport cause it comes with several distinct loud annoying airplane sounds (like high-powered jets in take off position or an airplane that is slowly accelerating and just about to take off) that last about 35 min of every hour, 24 hours a day. I have owned this refrigerator for 3 months now and can say for sure: “Worst buy ever!”.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pica Best looking fridge for the value!
We picked the Frigidaire to replace an extremely loud GE at the same size & price point, and we are so glad we did. The fridge has nice looking features on the outside, and plenty of space inside. And it keeps the food cold without freezing any!
I like the adjustable shelves inside, but wish the lowest shelf was just an inch taller for the Brita pitcher. The shelves can be moved in about 4" increments. The produce & cheese drawers are a little small, but of high quality and slide in and out well.
I wish there were a light in the freezer, a little confused why there isn't, and that the door shelves were enclosed to keep small bottles from falling, but overall happy with the choice. Someday I'll buy a $1500 model with everything I want, but for half that price, this stainless steel basic baby is nice enough!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gman Quality Refrigerator
It's far too early to rate the energy efficiency or quality of this refrigerator, but what I can tell you is that it is pretty quiet (makes a quiet hum for about 10 minutes after being open - then is silent), and it looks really sharp. If it's true to it's tags, the energy cost per year is $41, which seems more than reasonable.
For a medium sized refrigerator, it looks much larger and can fit a pretty decent amount of food. I live alone, so it's easily big enough, but I suspect it would be enough for a even family of four.
It also looks very nice (stainless steel front and black siding) and stays pretty clean. I'd recommend buying stainless steel cleaner to touch up the door every once in a while.
All in all, this refrigerator is quality. Aside from an auto deicer, there are no bells and whistles, yet it still does the job and has plenty of space!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Kittbuilder Dying a "quick" death after 1 year?
Had a Magic Chef for almost 25 years and NEVER had a problem with it up until it's last days. This unit, while a fair price for a no-frills unit, started emitting a burning rubber smell last week, only 8 days before the 1 year warranty was due to expire. Called in for a service call. Opening was 10 days away ! So what's to happen if the compressor dies before they get here? Lose a fridge full of food? Then today, grabbed the plastic composite door handle to open fridge, and the handle snapped off at the top where it screws to the inner door lip. I can only hope the repair man on Tuesday has spare parts on him to replace the handle. I surely hope this isn't what's to be ahead of me trying to expect a trouble-free 20+ years of silent service from a respected name!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by phillygrant GE energy star fridge is great!
I wasn't sure about an 18 cu ft fridge but GE really maximized the use of space. The door compartments are large and roomy enough for gallon jugs of milk, large/tall soda bottles, etc. The ice maker is fast and efficient, and the fridge is nearly silent when it's running, and even with an ice maker the freezer compartment is still roomy. It's just right for a family of 4. I'm very happy with it so far!! Others have complained about the noise.... ???? what noise? seriously? if this model runs loud for you I strongly suggest you get someone out for service, mine I can hardly hear at all (except when the ice drops into the ice bucket in the ice maker, about once every 15 minutes). The finish is very nice, the parts are all snug-fitting, and the controls are right up front where it's easy to adjust if you need to. A nice (and unexpected) feature in this price range are the glass shelves with anti-spill edges, and the clear crisper drawers make it easy to see what you have at a glance. The only point of contention is that the wire freezer shelf has no adjustment for height, but that's a small point. I'm very happy with this purchase start to finish, and because it's an Energy Star fridge I get $75 back from my electric company! Bonus!! Definitely would buy this again.
