Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RoyL Great replacement for other GE Microwave unit
I purchased this one to replace the other GE Microwave oven which had problem on its control panel after four years. This is a unit that was mounted on kitchen cabinet and It is not worth to pay $ to have technician pay a visit and order parts to repair. After search on the web, I found this one, it is similar and the mount kit can be re-use for this model (i.e. dimension are almost the same). I am happy to get this one and it is easy to install with old mount kit that I have, which is another big $ saving.

Our last microwave only lasted 4 years which was a big disappointment because the one before that which was a Sharp we had for 18 years. My wife liked the reviews on this GE and decided to get it and we are both very happy with it. Not only the quality of it but the price was very reasonable for such a nice product. Also very user friendly which helps since we are both in our seventies. We would recommend it and can see it lasting us a long time without any problems.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by TedTheToolMan Decent microwave for the price
Purchased this microwave to replace a Sharp brand microwave that was approximately 8 years old and exceeded its life expectancy.
My wife researched Consumer Reports, as well as a few web sites and decided this microwave was the best value for it's cost and features.
Out of the box, the microwave feels "tinny". Most of the weight falls to one side where the controls and main parts are. Comes very well packaged, with most surfaces covered in protective plastic.
The housing in general is thin, maybe making it lighter by design, but 2 other microwaves that were delivered to me had damaged cases, even though the exterior of the boxes did not show signs of damage.
The stainless finish is just that, a finish. The actual stainless pieces are thin, almost like a laminate, but looks nice. The key pad takes a good solid push to input commands, leaving me to feel overtime the pad may wear prematurely.
Heating up food from the fridge is a no brainer, with a setting for multiple food types, and a temperature sensor. Heats food evenly, and temperatures are more consistent with covered dishes or bowls. No cold or hot spots.
Easy to use and so far no complaints.
I would recommend this for the features in this price range.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Joe72 Very good microwave for family of 4
We have always had Sharp microwaves and they seemed to do OK. After our last one died in the middle of supper prep, I looked online at all the reviews and this GE had high marks from several different sources. I figured I would have to either order it or settle for another model. I did some looking around and saw where our local The Home Depot (Cedar Rapids, IA) had some in stock. The gentleman took us right to the display and told us the features of their various models and he said that this unit has sold very well. I told him that it got some good reviews online.
We haven't paid that much for a microwave before, but maybe that was the reason for us going thru so many in the past. I only gave quality a 4 of 5 since we have not had it that long. If it keeps performing like it does, then it is a 5 of 5.
My wife and I like the express cooking feature where you just push 1 for 1 minute, 2 for 2 minutes,... I think you get the idea.
The large inside holds the larger dishes that we use for our family of 4.
It has worked very well for us and I would recommend for anyone else to use.

We purchased our last microwave about 20 years ago. Scarcity and cost of replacement parts made the purchase of a new microwave the only practical way to go. I spent hours researching different brands of large countertop microwaves and found very little encouraging words. There were way too many complaints about poor quality and bad engineering on very well known brand names. So my challenge was to sort through all this because we needed a replacement machine.
Armed with my ratings research information, I traveled to the closest Home Depot and started checking out the various models. I was able to validate the complaints about certain well known brands having poor functioning latches and/or badly laid out control panels, so those were skipped. Why someone would buy a machine where the latch works poorly in the store expect it to work better at home is beyond my ability to understand. The same goes for poorly laid out control panels. Of course if you buy through the internet, good luck with that. I'm a hands on guy for these kinds of purchases.
This GE model passed all of my in store scrutiny tests - easy opening doors, straight-forward control panel layout, large counter top model, a great price, and so we bought it. So far, we couldn't be happier.
Can't say how long the machine will last. Reading all the horror stories about new microwaves only lasting a matter of weeks or months spooked me, so I bought the Home Depot two year replacement warranty for $25. I was expecting to pay $250-ish for a replacement microwave. This one was only $179, so adding $25 still seemed like a deal.
Yes, even GE got complaints about machines blowing up...every single brand did. What these rating systems can't tell us is what percentage of machines sold are represented by those extreme situations versus the total number sold. We only know the percentage of people who respond to the sellers request to rate their purchase. I suspect the angry people are more motivated to fill out ratings requests.

This large microwave does everything I need and including things I didn't even know I needed. I got it to replace my older GE microwave of similar dimensions. Unfortunately, they changed the design of the microwave surround, so the old one doesn't work on the new microwave, but other then that I have no complaints.

I bought this microwave to replace a 30 year old GE microwave which I loved and it still worked despite being used every day. I updated my kitchen with stainless appliances and this was the last to be replaced. It cooks faster and has more cooking options than the old one and I am happy with it so far.
