I would like to drain the washer up into my kitchen sink the way I do with my current under the counter washer/dryer combo unit. Is this possible?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Jen, Thank you for your question on the GE 2.2 cu. ft. DOE Front Load Washer in White Model # WCVH4800KWW. Attachy U-shaped hose guide to the end of the drain hose. Please the drain hose in a luandry tub or standpipe. If the drain hose is placed without forming a U shape, a siphoning action could occur. Please see the Installation Instructions on the Home Depot Website for this model under "More Info". * Drain capable of eliminating 17 gallons per minute. * A standpipe diamater of 1 1/4" minimum. * The standpipe or laundy tub/sink height above floor should be a minimum height of 30" and maximum height of 96" I hope this helps. Will I be able to plug this and the matching dryer into the wall if I currently have a combo w/d unit?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello Lou, Thanks for your questions. This is Alison at GE. I am happy to assist you. A combo washer dryer unit will generally have one power cord that operates both units. Model number WCVH4800KWW and the matching dryer DCVH480EKWW will have separate power cords. The washer and/or dryer must be electrically grounded in accordance with local codes. GE recommends the following: Circuit – Individual properly polarized and grounded 15-amp branch circuit fused with 15-amp, time-delay fuse or circuit breaker. Power Supply – 2-wire, with ground, 120-volt, single-phase, 60-Hz, Alternating Current. Outlet Receptacle – Properly grounded 3-prong receptacle to be located so the power supply cord is accessible when the washer is in an installed position. For detailed information, the installation instructions for the washer are available on the Home Depot website. After entering the model number in the search field, click go, and then click on the orange tab that's reads, "More Info" the installation guide is downloadable for review. I hope this information is helpful. I am here if you have any further questions. Have a nice day! Alison

Does the GE 2.2 cu ft DOE Front Load Washer have a compatible GAS dryer? If so, what is the model #.

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, Thank you for contacting us and for your interest in GE. I am happy to help. We do not have a companion dryer for this washer in gas. The nearest model dryer in gas would be the GFDN120GD however the load capacity is much larger than the load size. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Sincerely, Nikki from GE

When you say the door is a "left swing", does that mean it is hinged on the right or left side? I assume the door can't be reversed?

Asked by: Sassy78660
Hi Sassy78660- This is Lisa from GE Appliances. I am happy to help. Front-load washers have the hinge on the left side of the door and open to the left only. They do not have reversible doors because of the electronics involved with the door lock mechanism. Thank you for checking with us.

Can this be used without regular hookup?

E.g., to use with the uni-coupler connection similar to the ones used by the portable GE WSLP1500JWW.

2.2 DOE cu. ft. Front Load Washer in White is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 294.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from broken after 5 years I had my GE front loader for 5.5 years and it broke. I had a repair person come out and he told me the drum is broken and would cost around $600 to repair....better off buying a brand new washing machine. For the price of this machine, I would expect more than 5 years use. I am the only person who used it and I did an average of 4-5 loads of laundry per week. Ridiculous. Also- when it did work, I didn't feel that it got my clothes very clean. I would pull things out and you could still see spots on the clothes. I recently had to go to the laundromat to do laundry while my machine is broken and my clothes come out so much cleaner. DO NOT BUY.

I've had it for less than a month. For me, the most important thing is longevity. My previous washer (a Whirlpool) conked out on me permanently only 22 months after I bought it from Home Depot, but if you asked me in the first month after I bought it, I would have said it was good. What I will say about this is that 2.2 cubic feet feels significantly larger than 2, which is what my previous washer had for interior space. That is a really good feature of this machine thus far. Again, I hope it lasts for at least 5 years. Machines used to last for more than 10 years, but I hear they don't make them like that anymore.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Efficient and quiet, but small This washer was a replacement under a home warranty. We have had the washer for two months now, and it works great. The controls are very easy to see and understand, and in operation the unit is much quieter than our former washer. We normally use the speed cycle, which is usually done in about 30 minutes. This helps a lot as the washer is quite small in terms of cu ft. Our only issue so far (other than having to do laundry more often due to the small size) is that there is always water in the tray where you put soap, fabric softener, etc. after a wash cycle is done. But, that hasn't translated into any issues so far, so overall we are happy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Door lock broken after 17 months I bought it last year in April, loved it while it last. It doesn't clean as well my old top-load washer, but it is very quiet and gentle on clothes. It is a small washer for a family of 2 adults, we wash daily, which I prefer. I can see myself doing only 3 loads if we only wash on weekends. The door lock broke last week, parts and labour cost $398+tax. It actually does lock, but the machine doesn't seem to understand that it is locked so it wouldn't fill the water. The repairman say, "you need to be gentle, it's a mechanical lock" but I don't see how much more gentler I can be! Yet I'm more upset by how unhelpful the GE (Mabe) service is. I don't have extended warranty, so they refer me to 2 authorized repair shops in my area. They don't pick up their phones during office hours and only leave messages late at night, "I'm calling you back, so call me back." After exchanging dozen messages for days, gave up and called a local appliance repair shop which came within hours. Home Depot at my area only have this model that is small enough for my needs. The salesman assured me this is the best for the size. It is why they only have this model of small washer in the store.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GE Compact washers Leave a lot to be desired GE compact washers are obviously not built to last. I am having to purchase my 4th one in 10 years. The last two have had control panels go out and I have now waited 7 months for a new control panel. I was told by GE they were on back order and recently was told they would not be available until the end of 2016. In order to be able to rent my condo unit through the summer I am forced to just replace a 2 year old washer again. This is the first time I am finding other brands in compact washers. But I was just told if I purchase another brand of washer I have to purchase the same brand dryer in order to stack them. I am not a happy consumer right now.

This things are designed to last 5-8 years. If you go online and type in "ge front load washer drum loose" you will see many people have the same consistent problem. The cost for fix usually run between $600-1000. I would stay away from this unit all together.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lightweight clothing items only, HANDWASH setting I bought this washing machine in September 2016. It sits on a wood floor, was balanced front to back, top to bottom, and side to side. I am unable to load heavier fabrics such as terry or sweaters without the machine shaking and pounding. There is no problem washing a full set of queen-size sheets, only the heavier materials cause this problem . To wash without this pounding, I have to use the HANDWASH setting. I GIVE UP.

It cost nearly double the price of a GE top loader (4.2 cu ft) for starters. It doesn't perform nearly as well as my old Kenmore front loader (2.6 cu ft). Clothes are soaking wet after the wash and require an additional spin and the dryer tends to ball up sheets with whatever is in there and also requires additional time. Get a Speed Queen and be done with it.
