Purchased this generator 10/1/2010 and has operated flawlessly for 6 years. I had an electrician install it, but I change oil, filters and spark plugs myself. We have lost power several times (one time for 4 days) and the symphony system works great. I also purchased the cold weather kit. We purchased this generator for medical reasons and I waited six years to write this review. I have a 5,000 square foot house and it runs everything. Others companies wanted to sell me bigger generators at twice the price.

Generator and Transfer Switch ships directly from Briggs and Stratton plant in Wisconsin. Product was delivered to house on time. Hired an electrician to install and a GE certified dealer to oversee installation and start up. Electrician had no trouble installing it and GE dealer (Houston) was great to deal with. Don't cheap out on the installation and be sure to sign up with a local dealer for the annual maintenance contract - it is well worth it. Generator performs a weekly self-diagnostic check and runs for 20 min. Very satisfied with this purchase. Wireless monitor works well too.
Note: Air intake is on the right side and discharge is in the front on left side (see attached photos)

I had the 20kw home generator installed 5 years ago and kept in good maintenance condition. We had lost power quite few times over last 5 years and the generator always starts flawlessly. However this pass week during its weekly excersise cycle, the generator just stopped in the middle of the cycle. It turns out the cylinder wall got a hole browned thru. My generator has a total run hour of 145 hours. This is low usage over 5 years and now the generator is totally useless. Not a very good quality product

We have had nothing but problems for 2 years with our generator. In fact it has never worked each time we needed it in a power outage. Still trying to fix it.

The generator casing is not rated for 1 hour fire as the other brand which means it must be located 5 feet from your home / building due to the Fire Hazard. The other brand is Fire Rated, has a sticker on it and has to be mounted 18 inches or more from the house (not 5 feet away). This is why some of the major retailers do not carry this product in their stores. The home owner with limited yard space should go with the other brand! Baltimore County, MD require permits and inspection on the electrical and gas installation, to code. Natural gas supply / meter has to be upgraded too.
Generator is not returnable where the other brand is up to 30 days.

My wife and I decided to invest into a generator after Hurricane Sandy left us with no power for a week. I shopped around and decided to get the GE model. I've had it now for almost 2 years and it has done everything I expected. We have lost power now @ 6 times the last year and our GE generator has kept us with all the power we required - A/C, water (we have a well) lighting - everything. We live in a rural area, and we are the last on the grid to get our power restored. It is no longer an issue, except our neighbors do not like us turning every outside light on during a power failure ;) A great product...

I called Mr Sparky and made an appointment. Mr Chad Blanton came out in a few days to discuss my gen needs. We came to a solution and he and Mr Dallas came back in few days for the installation. These two guys were very efficient and done a very professional job. They even replanted a flower that was in the way during installation. I was very pleased with their service and how neat and respectful they were when they replanted my flower. Mr Blanton came back after gas was installed and started the gen up. He was very helpful and explained things that I needed to know. These two guys were very curtious and professional
