Customer Questions & Answers

Is this stainless or a painted on color of silver?

Asked by: Anonymous
The "stainless look" appearance looks just like stainless and matches other stainless steel appliances but is easier to keep clean. It's probably the best feature of the fridge. The sides are an ugly cheap gray, but the front in the stainless-look looks good.

Does it have an icemaker

Asked by: Marge
Hello Marge - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and we are happy to help you. Yes, this wonderful bottom-mount refrigerator has an icemaker in the freezer in the upper left hand corner if you are facing the freezer. There is no dispenser on this refrigerator. We hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

What is the configuration of the freezer?

Asked by: Anonymous
The freezer has a door. The top shelf is fixed. The bottom is a basket that can slide out, but tends to be very difficult to slide. Also, you'll need a lot of clearance to the side to open the freezer door fully.

Customer Reviews

20.3 cu. ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator in Black is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent refrigerator I just bought this GE Cleansteel fridge for my first house. Delivery was on-time and very gracious. The fridge looks very nice and is neither too small nor too large. the cleansteel exterior does not show fingerprints or smudges like stainless does. This fridge is billed as being very quiet, which it is. Either the fridge is extremely efficient and only turns the compressor on rarely or it is so quiet that I cant hear it running. I can hear the icemaker dump the cubes but thats the only noticeable noise from it. Fit and finish are exceptional. Amenities even on this cheapest version are quite nice. And it has a slightly retro-style rounded door that I preferred to the more angular models available. The freezer is colder than I am used to and gets vodka to the perfect martini temperature so it doesnt need to be shaken, which is a timesaver when martini-time starts. Compare closely with similar Samsung, LG, and Maytag models. This fridge is definitely on-par with a more expensive competitor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GE GBSC0HCXCRWW Bottom freeze fridge We replaced an 18+ year old refrigerator, and a day after installation, we are very pleased. I like the way the deep door shelves hold so much; makes things easy to find. The bottom freezer holds enough. It is harder to reach, but as frozen stuff keeps better, I'd rather be able to see and reach the more perishable foods. Not too loud, temperatures at factory settings are fine. The freezer basket will lift right out; I can set it on the counter to get a better look. I have not yet connected the ice maker and am considering disconnecting and removing it for more freezer space. White plastic trim on the glass shelf fronts seems flimsy and liable to break if bumped with heavy item, but bins and door shelves appear to be adequate. Although the positions are fixed, the plastic door shelves can be removed for cleaning.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great deal Nice fridge for the money. We replaced a leaky top-freezer whirlpool that would freeze our greens and leak defrost water all over our refrigerator shelves. The GE is a tad noisier than the whirlpool, but it is as nice as I had hoped. I only wish it had a built-in water filter like my whirlpool did. I do like the lit freezer compartment and the on/off switch on the ice maker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful refridgerator so far! Lots of room ! My wife and I (both 55+ yrs.) bought this GE in October 2008 and now have had it for 3 months. We were limited to a 30 inch wide space. However, the GE sticks out about 4 more inches onto the kitchen floor than our old refridgerator which isn't a problem. This model has lots of room in both the top and bottom compartments. Most 30 inch wide refrigerators have limited features and are in the 18 cubic ft. range. We like the dual controls for the fridge and freezer. We have the freezer set at 6. We find this ideal for ice cream. The refrigerator is at 5. The door on the fridge has 2 large shelves and a smaller shelf next to the butter keeper. All 3 shelves are extra wide to hold a gallon of milk or those large liter bottles of soda. I could easily store six 750ml bottles of wine (two deep and three across) on the middle shelf just under the butter keeper if I wanted. That's how wide it is. We find the shelf on the freezer thou small, perfect for frozen OJ and freezing butter. It takes alittle getting use to bending over for ice cubes after having a top freezer. I find it easier to take out the ice cube storage bin to fill glasses with ice. The freezer basket is easy to pull out to reach your frozen foods. Lots of room in the freezer. Love the lighting in both compartments. It is a very quiet refrigerator. You don't even know it's running till you hear the ice cubes drop and the water refills in the ice maker. No egg keeper, No big deal. I'd rather have my eggs in the store carton as it's dated. There are three ajustable shelves in the fridge. One large shelf and two smaller ones. The two crisper bins do lack humidity controls. I think they could have added them. Overall, we are very pleased with our GE. We think it's a nice upgrade too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from first new fridge The price on this fridge was too good to pass up (esp w/free Delivery!). There's tons of space inside without taking up a lot of room in my small kitchen. The gallon jug shelves in the door are awesome - no more digging behind milk, OJ, etc to get to smaller items. It has fantastic interior lighting. I love the bottom freezer. Reasons for deducting a star: Bottom door for the freezer swings out rather than being a pull out drawer. I knew this before buying it, but it is a little more awkward than I had anticipated. If you can't open the door past 90 degrees because it's against a wall, etc, you can't pull out the freezer basket & it's not as convenient to pull out your frozen goods. It runs a little louder than my old Kenmore, but that was an exceptionally quiet fridge. I really miss having a water dispenser, but that can easily be replaced w/the $$ I saved. For the price, you really can't beat it. :)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard to get the ice They had to come install a temp controller because all our food melted after installation - couldn't get it cold enough. But the biggest problem is that you have to get down on your hands and knees to pull any ice out. Freezer is WAY too small. Don't consider this model unless you don't need to freeze anything and don't need ice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet, Roomy, and Great Looking! We love how it looks in our kitchen. Our last refrigerator was quite noisy and this one we don't know when its running! The door compartments are spaced well and we can get so much it the door it has opened up some shelf space. The doors stays open as we stock it. We also love not having to bending over to get fruit or vegetables out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Temperature volatile Like everyone says, having a bottom freezer is convenient to avoid frequent bending if you tend to use the refrigerator more often than the freezer. The large basket in this freezer isn't the best way to organize items though, and I find myself needing to clean out or reorganize the freezer pretty frequently to get to things. My biggest issue with this fridge is how labile the temperatures are. Every now and then, the temp in the refrigerator portion would drop to below freezing. It doesn't seem to correlate with frequent door opening or room-temp/hot food being placed in the refrigerator. I would then have to adjust the temperature dials for a couple of days -- only to have to re-adjust them back to a "3" because the temperature was starting to trend too high. This has resulted in a lot of lost/wasted food because certain foods just don't freeze & defrost well. Lastly, this fridge is on the smaller side. I would say it is probably good for a 2-3 person household, but too small for a 4 person household.
