Customer Questions & Answers

the specs denote the lug sizes. It appears that these sizes will not accept a 200a wire. Please explain

Asked by: Anonymous
Should accept aluminum or copper as far as I know. Check with an electrician to see if it meets local code.

is this an indoor or out door switch. I need to know if i can mount it on the side of my house

Asked by: GReg
The housing is rated NEMA 3R, which is suitable for outdoor use within some limitations. I would not install it in an outdoor location that exposed to wind since the enclosure is not rated for wind blown dust.

What is the inlet power rated for. 200A is for the utility side of the switch. Often times the auxiliary side (generator power) is different.

Asked by: Anonymous
Aux. power can be up to 200 amps.

Customer Reviews

200 Amp 240-Volt Non-Fused Emergency Power Transfer Switch is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 200 amp GE Transfer Switch (Generator Hook-Up) If you shop around you will find that this 200 amp Transfer Switch is the best "Bang for the Buck". The dimensions in the "specifications" are confusing. This is a fairly large box. The correct dimensions are: Height - 30.375 in, Width - 13.25 in (add 2.875 in, to the Width if including the Handle), Depth - 8.375 in. The lugs look small in the picture, because the picture is small. The lugs take up to a 250 awg wire. Which is bigger than the 2/0 cu or 4/0 al wire used on most 200 amp Services. The Neutral bar is included with this box. With some other boxes, they are not. All of these boxes seem to be over priced. This is the best one you will find for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of room for heavy wire connections. Nice switch. Lots of room . Could use additional knock outs, this may be code related? Good box for the money. Would buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In response to its size.... this is great for basic transfer of power. The size is large but it needs to be to conform to the NEC restrictions on how many degrees you can bend your wire and the cubic inches available. They didn't make it that big on accident.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and cost-effective Automatic switches are very expensive. By comparison, this manual unit is way less. Just one warning-- it's giant. There's a lot of room inside to allow you to work with 4/0 cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needed an economic 200 Amp switch. This was a good deal. Shipping was fast. It arrived in good condition. I'm replacing an automatic transfer switch on a non-working generator. Needed a way to tie of the cables, but still offer possibilities for another generator when I get the money for it. This fit the bill without costing an arm and a leg.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 200 amp ManualTransfer Switch Item arrived in good time and intact. About the only device that will work for this job, and you can't beat the price. Would recommend highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well built. I will have to admit that I felt it was a lot larger than it needed to be although there was plenty of room to bend 4/0 wire in it. It was pretty easy to install and I am now ready for the next power outage.
