Water line essential?

This question is from 21 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator in Stainless Steel
Asked by

I won't be using the ice maker in this appliance as I think it will be hard to connect the water line to our faucet line (which is on the opposite side of the kitchen). Do I still need to buy the water ice line if I want Home Depot to install this refrigerator? Your website says that it is needed for installation.

What’s Included in Free Delivery & Basic Service?
All freestanding (does not include built in cooktops, wall ovens, drop ins, window air conditioners, through the wall air conditioner units, etc.) electric appliances will be uncrated, set in place, leveled, tested and connected to an existing proper power source. If proper electrical outlets, gas shut off valves, water supply and shut off valves, or venting sources are not available at the time of delivery, a complete hook up will not be possible.
Basic hook up service does not include hook up or removal of built-in appliances such as wall ovens and cooktops, though in some areas consumers can purchase the hook up of gas appliances, dishwashers and over the range microwaves (OTRs/Spacemakers) at an additional charge.
The new appliance will be tested to make sure it works correctly. All packing materials will be removed, and your home will be restored to its original condition.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst refrigerator I have ever had Since day 1 this refrigerator has not worked properly. It alternately freezes things hard in the freezer and later they are soft. It also drips water on the inside of the refrigerator. May 28, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Fridge looks nice, but it's loud. Disappointing that it doesn't have a freezer light for the price. You can put up magnets on the sides, which are black not stainless steel. Different temp controls for fridge and freezer are a plus. The price basically pays for the name. September 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fits our kitchen perfectly. We purchased a house with stainless steel microwave, oven and dishwasher. This refrigerator matches the rest of the GE products. Plenty of room; fits just right. Delivery on time and helpful. September 7, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Refrigerator-GE I purchased this refrigerator and was very pleased with their delivery policy. I like everything about the frig with the exception of there being no light in the freezer compartment. I really miss that. The other thing is the icemaker. My old frig had a much bigger icemaker. I miss that. However, my purchase looks real good. It is larger that my old one, but it fit in the space anyway. I would recommend this refrigerator to anyone who wants one that looks good and works great. January 9, 2009
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love the fridge - Quality Concerns! Great size! 5 years in and fridge is shutting itself down and turning itself back on. Does this fridge self-defrost and turn itself back on? I was ready to toss it! Frustrating! May 5, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by So many repairs Waiting for service (again) on this 10 month old refrigerator. This time, the temperature in the refrigerator won't go below 55 deg F with the temperature control st to coldest. April 13, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by my old ge was much better Have been unhappy with this product from day 1. Food is either frozen or warm depending of placement in fridge. Have had it looked at and was told that there was nothing that could be done. Controls are in an awkward spot. You have to tilt some items to get them in. Would not recommend this product to anyone. Once I pay it off I will be replacing it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] March 21, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor design, not well built I got this because it was the biggest I could find that would fit in my space, was Energy Star compliant, and had no ice maker. But I'm sorry I bought it. The doors aren't hung straight (an installation problem, not manufacturing.) The freezer door is slightly bowed. The gaskets do not make firm contact all around, leading to icing in the freezer and energy waste. There is no light in the freezer. Air circulation is problematic leading to warmer and colder spots in the fridge. The thermostats are in the way of putting food on the top shelf and are too easily jostled and inadvertently changed. The internal space is restricted by needs to maintain channels for air flow in hopes of keeping temperatures consistent and to enable defrosting. I gave it two stars instead of one because it is quiet and, so far, reliable, and GE has been responsive to my complaints - although their fixes did not work. I wouldn't buy it again. October 5, 2011
