knocking/tapping noises under normal operating noises?

We just bought this model and when it runs it starts making knocking/ tapping noises. Loud enough for me to become aware of it and it's kind of annoying. It will do a cluster of knocking/tap noises and quit for a while and then start again. Is this in the normal operating noises? Either way is there anything we can do to try and make it not so noticeable? Thanks.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 351 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Love the new GE refrigerator. Slate is definitely the way to go! Only drawback is the ice maker is a little inconvenient to access, and the handles are stainless steel. The reason we avoided stainless was because of the finger prints. Why make the handles, the part that gets touched the most, stainless? Otherwise, a great product March 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by French door is very practical and gives high end look Smooth & quiet operation with lots of feature such as water filtration & ice maker February 25, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! I ordered this on line, sight unseen! Delivery guys were really great, it fits perfect in my kitchen, and I just love how much space I have now! The drawers are so deep and plenty of room in fridge and freezer. I love the door alarm especially since I have a teenage boy :) May 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A really nice refrigerator! I am very pleased with this refrigerator. I was pleasantly surprised to find a purified water dispenser on the wall of the fridge inside the left door. I must have overlooked this in the description. The produce drawers are large and deep. There is also a light behind the drawers which lights up the bottom of the fridge nicely. The slate is truly smudge free and looks great! I gave value a 4 because i needed a narrow refrigerator for my galley kitchen and this was the only 22.1 GE french door that would fit. The price was $1699, which is pricey for the size. I added the 5 year extended warranty for $200 which put me over $2000. It's on sale now for $1529 and I highly recommend it. January 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by love my new refrigerator It's hard to review something that you have only had for less than two weeks. What I can tell you is that I love the finish. It has the look of stainless steel (slate) without the messy fingerprints. I also like the interior set up. So far I have not no problems fitting in anything that I've needed to refrigerate. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the bottom of the freezer drawer. I would have preferred if it was solid so that nothing could fall to the bottom. I took care of it by lining it. September 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy, happy, happy!!! This refrigerator is efficient, including an alarm if I don't get the door completely closed and temperature read outs. I've had it less than a month, and it has already alarmed twice. The ice maker stays full, and the water being inside leaves the front looking very clean. Having the freezer on the bottom is so much more convenient, and the french doors make it where I only need to open one unless I need things I have stored on both sides. It is beautiful to look at, and easy to clean. There is plenty of room in the frig and see-through drawers so my husband can see which side has the veges and which has fruit. The temp control keeps veges much longer than my old frig. I like the glass shelving. To have gotten it on sale is just the icing on the cake. July 29, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by fridge it will take some getting used to with the freezer on the bottom. but i like it and the look is really nice. December 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Color I chose this fridge because of the Slate color. I went to buy a dishwasher but when I saw the Slate color in the store display, I decided to buy the fridge too. This fridge fits perfectly in our small space. The interior is bright and spacious for the size. You can open either door or both. The water dispenser inside the fridge is great and the ice maker located in the freezer is a bonus. I prefer this rather than having them on the outside of the fridge. I always found that the floor ended up wet from flying ice. The exterior finish is great. NO fingerprints and a quick wipe with a damp cloth leaves it spotless. My last fridge was stainless steel and this is so much better. March 22, 2014
