Is it possible to power the timer motor and the load from separate supplies?

I'd like to use this in a situation where the load supply is already switched by another device. I'd like to power the timer motor with a separate supply that is always on (not switched). Is this possible?
Asked by: Kevin
Yes, you can wired the timer this way if that is the way you want it. The timer has to be powered by an always “on” circuit or the time will be off. Jasco Products Tech Support (Manufacturer)

Customer Reviews

24-hour Heavy Duty Mechanical Time Switch is rated 1.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from INHERENTLY WEAK OFF TAB As the result of poor design and fabrication, the off tab that attaches to the dial with a thumb screw is weak and breaks, leaving the lights on 24/7. This timer is no good. I'm going back to Intermatic. They have a much better design that doesn't break.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will not last more than 3 years I used for 3 years too and it will not turn off just like other customers. Now I have to re install an new one. I need a handy man...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I cannot recomment not at all The first device failed after 5 months. Within warranty I got the second one which failed after six months. I got a third one which failed after 16 days. The technical support said it failed because of lightnings. In my garage are many electric devices, even a timer for irrigation. None of this devices failed within last 10 years. This product is totally wrong designated and built. I wonder that this company offers it despite of all these failures and allover negative results. Don't waste your money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mine lasted 3 years but same problem as others The timer worked for my pool pump for 3 years but then the OFF tab would never trigger the timer to turn off. The pump would stay on 24/7. Same issue as everyone else here. Looking for another option as I don't want to change my timer this frequently.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor timer I have only had this timer for 18 months and have the same problem reported by others. The off tab bends and it won't shut off. Tried straightening it and that works for a day or two and then bent again. This is a lousy timer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from hot water timer failures I first bought one of these about 5 years ago in its all digital programmable version. It lasted 14 months. By the time I got around to replacing it GE had changed the style to the mechanical dial time settings. That one lasted less than a year. Very very ticked off. Now using a Woods timer that so far has worked for just over 2 years without a hitch.
