I dislike everything about this fridge.
It makes a high pitched, ear-ringing noise. It makes a whizzing noise, it makes a grumbling noise. I can't believe how noisy it is! According to GE, these are normal noises. I can hear it running while laying upstairs in bed.
Most of he door shelves are too narrow to store most of the things that you'd normally store in them.
The wheels don't lock.
Despite it's size, it doesn't seem well-thought out and doesn't store as much as you'd expect My old fridge was almost identical size but seemed to hold way more. In the fridge, the shelves are so close together I can't get to things on them without moving everything around. The snack tray/drawer sticks when I try to slide it back in. In the freezer, food just sits on the shelves but the way they are constructed, my items often slide right off and fall. Just like the fridge, the freezer door shelves are too narrow to fit most items.
Want crushed ice? Great - here's how it dispenses them: 3 whole cubes of ice... 1 piece of ice crushed... followed by 4-5 more whole pieces of ice. Great, thanks.
I spent a lot of time researching fridges and am super disappointed in this one. Noisy, poorly planned storage. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

Rated 3 out of 5Â by SkyRat Really nice fridge, but Beware!
I purchased this refrigerator about 3 months ago and was completely happy with it for the first few months. Just over 2 months of use the water from the dispenser started tasting and smelling strange, sort of like a sour milk smell. The ice continued to smell and taste fine even after I would fill a glass and let it melt just to be sure it wasn't showing in it's solid form. I ordered (even after only a few months use) a $45 new GE filter to replace the one that came with it. That didn't make any difference! I then moved the fridge out from the wall and disconnected the supply line from the valve to check the water from the supply line. That, just like all the rest of the water in the house smelled and tasted fine.
I couldn't find any good information that fit my problem after searching GE and the web for answers, except a posting on some forum by a lady who had the exact same issue but had received NO RESPONSES to her question. I finally decided to call GE for support and they sent a service person out. He said he sees this issue at least once a week lately and said it's the water reservoir in the fridge behind the drawers. He said that some of the newer refrigerators are using a different plastic reservoir that is causing this issue. I'm thinking.... IS THIS SAFE????? He said to basically just keep using it and the smell/taste will eventually go away. Hmmmm...... But why wasn't it there in the beginning???? It doesn't smell like a plastic smell? It must be from whatever is used to treat it to perhaps cut down on bacteria build up? I have to run about 4 glasses of water through the dispenser before I get an okay glass of water. I live in Titusville Florida with the nations' HIGHEST water/sewer price! I can't afford to waste 4 FULL glasses of water to get one good one!
Needless to say, I'm a bit shocked and disappointed that this is the answer but it's too late to return this fridge! Other that the terrible water and the enormous (but bright) dome light inside the fridge, it's a nice fridge. However, I bought it specifically for the large removable ice maker and the layout of the water/ice dispenser.
Guess you get what you pay for.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Matt Nice fridge, but a little noisy
This is a nice fridge. It had most of the features we were looking for in our price range. However, I have 3 complaints with this fridge: 1)It is AT LEAST, if not more, noisy than the 13 year old fridge we replaced, 2) The drawers are not smooth when trying to open them - sometime you even have to push them partially back in to get them to open. I think they are cheaply made and 3) The water from the door dispenser is only slightly cooler than from the tap. On the other hand, the ice maker puts out ALOT of ice - it will fill the bin in less than 24hrs!
Overall, I would recommend this fridge to someone else, but would mention my complaints about it also.

I love what GE has to offer for the fridge. I researched several options and kept coming back to GE. Its very quite, has tons of room, and I love how quickly the ice maker makes the ice. I got the black model which fits in with my other upgraded appliances. The installers that came out are actually contracted through GE and made sure everything was up and running before leaving. They arrived on the dot at 9am and took extra care moving through the doorways and didn't scratch a thing. I will definitely order through Home Depot again. Great experience.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by All4Dreams More storage than expected!
After tolerating an outdated upright refrigerator for years, we finally gave in and purchased this GE side by side refrigerator. I was hesitant, noting the complaints for lack of storage in these types of appliances. However, the refrigerator's four shelves, two drawers and five door shelves are more than enough for our family of six. On the freezer side the four shelves and four door shelves are adequate for our needs. I am pleased with the water and ice features, on door temperature controls and open door alarm. Most importantly for our home though, the lock controls keep little fingers from splashing in the water!!
