Fan noise

This question is from 27 in. Single Electric Wall Oven Self-Cleaning with Steam Plus Convection in Stainless Steel

Had oven professionally installed. Seems to work ok, looks good... BUT...! The fan is rather noisy, kinda like a refrigerator fan. It cycles on and off like an air conditioner but is pretty much ALWAYS on - even on the regular Bake (non-convection) setting. In addition, it stays on after the oven has been turned off for a really long time, more than and hour! Why?? I bought the oven on sale and am wondering if there is something wrong with this model. I have used/ observed other convection ovens before, and the fan seemed/sounded more integrated and it would be turned off when not using convection. Please advice!

Hello, I am happy to help. This is normal. The internal fan is used to cool down the internal components. It can come on during any operation. The oven-cooling fan for the electronic controls is controlled by a thermostat.
The cooling fan may run throughout the entire bake cycle and continue even when the oven is off. This is considered normal operation.Thank you for checking with us. Lisa from GE Read More

I believe the fan you are referring to is an internal fan and not the convection fan. It is normal for this internal fan to run at all times the oven is on and for a duration once the oven is off.
If you turn on the convection operation of the oven you will notice the that it is a different fan noise and it is louder than the internal fan.
It is only an assumption but I believe the internal fan is for

It is only an assumption but I believe the internal fan is for cooling electronics above the oven or the air space around the oven.

Hello Bill - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The suggested circuit breaker size for this wall oven is 20 amps for both 208V and 240V. This is the suggested circuit breaker size; however, local electrical codes prevail. We recommend that you check with your local electrician. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Installation nightmare I assume the Wall Oven will be OK once home Depot gets it installed (like we paid them to do) September 7, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Still Nee Still getting used to this stove and the settings and capabilities. But it's pretty! June 7, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Happy! Very pleased with my purchase! Haven't had it very long but I'm sure I am loving it already. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by everything I needed The oven is exactly what I needed. It fit into a space previously occupied by a 24" oven so we got much more oven capability now. I also like that it has simple controls, a few buttons that handle all the cooking requirements a normal person usually uses, not a bunch of "sounds good" but never used buttons complicating things. excellent so far! August 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by love my new oven! I have had this oven for about 2 weeks now and love it. Beautiful, great features,And so much quieter than my old one. Delivery and installation were great. January 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Pleased Our old built-in wall oven was a 24" and this 27" fit without any modifications to the opening. It looks nice and fits flush against the wall. The convection fan is quiet during and after cooking. I read one customer complaint stating the fan blows hot air after cooking. Remember, the enclosed space behind the oven has no place for heat to escape. The fan blows air out the lower front of the oven. I expect, to remove heat from the sides and rear of the unit for safety and trouble-free operation. So far we have cooked a pizza and berry pie, both cooked perfectly. The oven pre-heated to 425 degrees F within 9 minutes and I consider this acceptable. The controls are easy to use and we like the direct input pad, our old 24" oven required holding the up/down button until the temperature was set, which took extra time. One observation; After the install we noticed the vertical oven door edges were 1/8" out of alignment with the edges of the above control panel. There was no adjustment for this so I lifted up on the oven door handle and pulled it slightly to the left with upward pressure aligning the two panels perfectly. Final note: We have no connection to G.E. or Home Depot, just consumers like everyone else. October 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleased Purchaser I've had the GE wall oven for about 3 weeks, now and have put it to use, baking casseroles, pizzas, muffins, rolls, pies, cookies, breads, and granola. One thing I've noticed is that the oven is sensitive to the the type of pan you use, so you will have to experiment to see which works best. I've been pleased with everything I've baked, though. I have not used the convection roast or the broil functions, yet, so I can't comment on them. It is very simple to use and keep clean. I am very impressed with how quiet the fan is. I was a little concerned, as another brand seemed to have a noisy fan. The oven is very attractive, as well. It does take about twice as long to preheat, as my old 21 year old oven, but that's not been a problem for me, as I just turn the oven on sooner. I like that the timer goes off, before your time is up, so you can finish what you are doing or get the trivets and hot pads out. And I'm so glad that the timer is loud enough for me to hear, if I happen to be in the other room. So far, the oven seems to be at the right temperature and I'm baking my recipes for the same amount of time, as with my old oven. I never used the oven light in my old oven, as I couldn't see in through the cloudy door, but with the GE, I was astonished at how clearly I could see my goods baking. All in all, it's a great oven. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Incredible wall oven Very easy to use. Plenty of space for cooking pans fit easily side to side. Very sleek looking. The oven vents to the front leaving the top and sides of the cabinets cool to the touch. March 5, 2015
