Fan noise

Had oven professionally installed. Seems to work ok, looks good... BUT...! The fan is rather noisy, kinda like a refrigerator fan. It cycles on and off like an air conditioner but is pretty much ALWAYS on - even on the regular Bake (non-convection) setting. In addition, it stays on after the oven has been turned off for a really long time, more than and hour! Why?? I bought the oven on sale and am wondering if there is something wrong with this model. I have used/ observed other convection ovens before, and the fan seemed/sounded more integrated and it would be turned off when not using convection. Please advice!
Asked by: evabraun62
The fan does run for a length of time after the oven is turned off, but I believe it is because it is mounted inside a wall cabinet. It cannot dissipate any other way, but is blown out from the underside of the oven. I consider it a safety feature for that reason. It does not prohibit conversation, but it can be heard. My previous oven (Jennair) also had a similar fan noise. My car also had a fan that would run for a period of time on hot days after the car was turned off, for similar reasons. The only possible solution I could think of would be to have a second vent installed.

Will this oven work on a 30 amp service

Im doing a remodel on a older home and the services 30 amp
Asked by: Bill
Hello Bill - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The suggested circuit breaker size for this wall oven is 20 amps for both 208V and 240V. This is the suggested circuit breaker size; however, local electrical codes prevail. We recommend that you check with your local electrician. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Does the oven turn off when the timer goes off?

Asked by: Pinky
If you set the "Timer" it does not turn OFF at the expiration of time, but a tone sounds. If you want the oven to turn OFF, set the "Cook Time" instead. It will turn OFF the oven and sound an alarm tone at the expiration of its time.

27 in. Single Electric Wall Oven Self-Cleaning with Steam Plus Convection in Stainless Steel is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 168.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from One thing to know. The oven works well and as expected. The one thing that we wish we would have known: It needs to be "primed". It would have been helpful if this was in the instructions. Our first meal was ruined because of strong fumes. After much internet research, apparently this is normal upon initial use. The fumes are very strong and you will want run it at high heat to break it in - and open windows!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value & High Quality Appliance Superb easy installation & well built oven with superb heat insulation qualities. Use of the Control Panel is intuitive and very easy to use. For a 27 inch oven the amount of oven cooking space is larger than many of the competitive brands. A high quality oven built in America with a very competitive price and with GE quality was an easy purchase decision for this oven.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You gotta buy this one! I bought this oven over a week ago and I love everything about it! I used the convection to bake brownies in 25 minutes! Roasted a turkey and it came out golden and juicy! The complaints about fan noise are ridiculous. Who has a whisper quiet kitchen?? You will not notice the fan any more than a very quiet dishwasher. I absolutely love cooking and baking in it!

We just had this oven installed, so it is to early to state it was excellent. If it is as reliable as the 25 year old Jenn Air it replaced, then yes, it would be excellent. The electrician and I had no problems installing it as I made sure it fit the cabinet cutout before ordering. It is a little larger than my previous oven, which made my wife very happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple to operate The installation was easy and straight forward. All seems to be operating well and we hope this oven will be the last one for us to purchase. Our last oven I installed 1976 and lasted till now. The only reason we replaced it was that we ware not able to get original replacement parts for 40 year oven.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I wanted to replace an old wall oven, and 27" has limited selection. I wanted convection, but I ... I wanted to replace an old wall oven, and 27" has limited selection. I wanted convection, but I don't need my phone and my oven to have meaningful conversations - too many computerized parts attached to high heat seems like a recipe for disaster, to pun. So I looked for a stainless, well rated, reliable oven with convection heat and timers. I've had it for 2 weeks and used it for roasting and baking a number of things. It does have some hot spots, even with convection. The instruction manual is somewhat long, and should be read, because different programs (roast, bake, etc) use heating elements in different locations, and where you place pans makes a real difference. The crescent rolls on the top rack almost burned and were done in 5 minutes, where the rolls on the shelf below took 5 additional minutes and turned out perfectly. READ the manual, seriously. Overall I'm quite happy. I also needed to replace the microwave in the wall above, and was able to find a GE that matched very well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Looking and Efficient The unit is handsome and it's nice to have both regular and convection cycles. Unfortunately the oven is very loud on the preheat and on convection cooking because the fan is on in both instances. The porcelain racks are a plus. The cool down fan runs for a very, very long time.
