Customer Questions & Answers

why does the washing machine sound like the drum is beating back and forth during spin cycle?

I have had the washing machine for less than a year. About 3 weeks ago (only during the spin cycle), the drum seems to bang against the inside of the washer as though it is out of kilter. I have to adjust and readjust the entire load of laundry (several times) in order for it to balance enough to finish the spin cycle. Should I call out a repairman?

worst machine we have ever owned. When it goes into the spin cycle it starts banging like the sides are hitting something. No it's not overloaded and no we don't load the machine unevenly. At 70 yrs old we have had many machines over the years and don't need instructions of how to wash clothes! we won't be buying another GE product ever....

My GE Washer model no. GCWP1800DWW. 5 days old first use and only filled about 5 inches high to rinse the clothes what should I do

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Sunshine. You probably have the "Power Rinse" setting OFF. Turn it on to have the washer fill up to the selected water level during rinse. It will also add a spin right after the wash cycle to distribute the fabric softener, though you don't need to use fabric softener to use this cycle. Otherwise you get just a light rinse and it does not fill with water. Hope this helps!

GTWP 1800DWW Can you please tell me how to soak clothes? I lift the lid to allow the clothes to soak and the water drains from the machine.? Thanks

Asked by: Anonymous
there is no soak cycle in this machine, I put the water in and turned if off and after awhile it started to drain anyway.

Will my sheets twist because spin is too strong

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes; at least mine do so I tend to wash them with other sheets, usually 4-5, since the twisting does not seem to occur as much and the sheets come out cleaner. I think this is just a result of the way the agitator sets in motion the water during the wash.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from efficent and quiet this is quite a different appliance than I am used old one 22yrs old croaked and I needed to purchase a new one... deciding against a digital or front loader I decided on this one... It took a few washes to get used to the different sounds it makes... uses less detergent... it doesnt use a lot of water or agitates noisely like my old one. I panicked on the first wash expecting it to make lots of sudden stop and kick in sounds. its just quiet. I keep the optional rinse cycle on for every load and love the dryness of the load after the very fast spin... bought in a pair with compatible dryer for less than $1000 ( taxes and delivery included). Remember less water and less detergent is better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased This machine has several settings for all kinds of fabrics and washing needs. It also has a very generously sized basket. I can fit a bed comforter in it and still have room left over. Plus, the machine is so quiet, you can barely hear it running. So far it seems to be a great product and I'm very pleased with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good After only 2 weeks, but a lot of loads, this product has been performing very well. Very quiet, holds a large load, and the clothes certainly seem clean. This washer was recommended by our local appliance repair person as good price for performance and quality. He acknowledged that it is not the top washer, but with his experience with repairs, this is the best for the money for a top loader which is what we wanted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I got this machine online for a really great price. Since you generally get what you pay for I ponied up the extra 60 bucks for the 3 year warranty. So far so good, it washes the clothes great, is quiet and has all the settings you'll need. The Capacity seems much larger than my Kenmore. We have 2 adults and sometimes 3 teen girls in the house and you can do two days worth of Laundry in 2 loads. What I love about home Depot is free delivery, haul away and if you have a more complicated appliance (i.e. a Dishwasher) installation prices are 60 percent less than Sears.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great economy washer This washer has a good feature that balances the tub before agitation begins. It clicks a few times at the begining, making one think that there is a problem, but that is the balance mechanism at work. All cycles are quiet, except spin. It has a very powerful spin cycle that sounds like a plane is getting ready for take-off. It is worth the extra noise, because it enables the clothes to dry faster. My only complaint is that the tub will automatically drain, if the lid is not closed. I like to wait for the tub to fill, before adding bleach to towels or whites. If I get distracted and don't get back to the laundry room, as soon as the tub is filled, the timer will begin, and the water will drain. I must turn the selector to the beginning and let it refill. If you are a multitasker, like me, it will be an issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bottle Rocket This washer is very quiet and cleans clothes without adding to the wear and tear of your clothing. I bought this washer two years ago and it has done two full loads of clothes every week. DO NOT put a load in that can become off balance as in one pillow. This machine cannot correct for it. The motor died at exactly two years from purchase date. There was no indication prior to it dying, it simply stopped spinning or washing. At 270 dollars for a motor, excluding the service call, paying 115 for the additional 3 years of support is a priority for this unit. It went up, popped and then dropped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best bang for the buck It cleans well, and fills up all the way like it should. The problem I see is the start buttons is a pain sometimes just spins instead of engaging. Guess I'm use to my push button start. ***Get the extended warranty for 4 years.** Most of all Ge new machine have a computer chip sits on top of the motor. Motors usually run around 200 bucks. Last Ge lasted less than 3 years, and one before that over 9 years. Machine are becoming throw away due to how expensive the parts are and don't hold up.
