Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. This washer will use a normal amount of water for the wash cycle; however, it has the water saver rinse cycle as an energy saving feature. If you prefer not to use the water saver rinse cycle, then we recommend using the Power Rinse Cycle which will provide a deep fill rinse. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Answer:
This machine is all about saving water. power rinse lets a NORMAL amount of water in for rinsing.
I highly advise against this machine. The agitator design rips up clothing and linens. They are trying to do too much without enough water. I git rid of this machine after 15 months. Pitched it and the dryer that went with it. I didn't think it was worth getting anymore garments ruined. Got a Speed Queen.

Answer:
No, it does not have a dedicated gentle cycle, but hearing this machine operate leads me to believe it would do fine with delicate laundry. It doesn't sound like its thrashing the laundry around harshly.

Hello moosuplady,
This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help.
Although this model GTWP1800HWS does not have a Gentle cycle, it does offer a Permanent Press cycle which provides a pulsed wash cycle with a fast spin.
Thank you for checking.

Hello,
This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help.
The Whites cycle is for heavy to lightly soiled cottons, household linens, work, and play items. Colors are for non-colorfast cottons and blends and items that are labeled cold wash. They both use regular wash and fast spin.
Thank you for checking.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 59 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible Model and Maybe Brand Bought this model in October because it seemed to have a decent balance of price vs features. Right after install the unit started making really loud scraping sounds that required a service visit. The repairman was able to address the issue during that visit. Then with a load of laundry this week during the spin cycle the unit started making extremely loud banging sounds. Somehow a plastic ring at the top of the tub was shredded. Now we have to wait several days for a repairman, and have a 5 day old baby. Very poor experience with this brand and model. I would have expected more. April 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Notably - produces cleaner clothes We have noticed our white/light colored clothes are brighter than with our former washing machine (while using the same detergent)! February 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet and Efficient So far I am pleased with this washer that I purchased several months ago. It is so quiet that at first I would place my hand on it to try to feel the vibration of the agitator! I did have one concern when the washer made very loud banging noises while rinsing, but I figured it was off balance so I redistributed the clothing, adjusted the balance, and have not experienced that again since. The capacity is great and I now do laundry a lot quicker than I did my old washer. I just hope this one lasts as long as my last GE washer did - 20 years! September 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works great, solid appliance, nothing fancy. We went with a fairly basic GE model but all we needed is a reliable appliance at a reasonable price. Admittedly this model does not have the fancy features/programs of higher tier washers but that is fine with us. I can confirm that all the other reviews I read before buying it about how quiet it is are accurate. The jury is still out on how energy efficient it is (I've owned it for 1 month) but I can't imagine it consumes more energy than my old washer. By the way, the Home Depot delivery service was hassle free and super professional. Stark contrast from my experience with Sears 3 years ago when bought a fridge from them. February 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I control the way I want to wash! I really love this washer, because it works the way I want it to. For example, I had some really dirty whites that I wanted to soak for a while. So I just pulled the dial and let that happen, starting the cycle again later. Although it does not have an extra rinse cycle, I can do that on any load, by turning the dial to the rinse cycle again. It is very easy to load - wide opening - and a very large tub. Simple to operate. I have choices on temperature and level of water. Do not bother with a washer without an agitator - they do NOT clean clothes. This agitator is slender and doesn't make it awkward to load and unload clothes. Love it! Well worth the money! January 20, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great washer !!! Does extra large loads and runs very quiet. Great price September 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HAPPY SO FAR We just had this delivered yesterday at a new residence. We had a top of the line HE front loader at our last home. In comparison, this is SO much faster. It's quieter. I can't hear it (except the water draining) from the kitchen just on the other side of the wall. I had set in stains from my toddler that had already gone through the wash in my old machine a few times. They came out on the FIRST wash. I knew the problem was just that I needed to soak them for a bit. Everything else was exactly the same. I love this old style machine already. I will update my review after some time has passed, but right now... I've never been this excited to do laundry. October 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Reasonably priced washer We were particularly impressed that this machine rubs so much quieter than our old one. The laundry area is connected to the kitchen so I was concerned that it would be loud. I have to walk over and listen to be sure it's running. July 26, 2015
