Customer Questions & Answers

Will this washer handle a king size comforter

Need to purchase a new washer and I like the specs on this one but not sure if it can handle our king size comforter
Asked by: Bill
I doubt it. Read the post I just sent in along with 5 pics showing that even on "super" water setting a king light weight quilt only had a small puddle of water in the tub. I've had to re wash it 3 times to get the soap out. The offered water levels mean NOTHING. The machine decided how much water to add to the tub. I honestly can't imagine why in the world GE even offered the water level options when they do not work and the machine over rides whatever water level you select. I have never seen my tub full of water regardless of what I've washed. I gave this machine away it was so bad. It was 4 mos old.

A tie got wrapped around the agaitator and i can not remove it by pulling or tugging.

How do I remove the agaitator to untangle and remove the tie wrapped around it..???
Asked by: Jewles
If it happened to me I would cut it off, or download the detailed manual on how to remove the aggitator, if your not mechanical you may have to get a service man out there. Hope this helped.

Auto Soak

I've seen this information on GE Answers regarding Auto Soak: "When you select Auto Soak cycle, it will agitate for four minutes after filling to the level selected, then stop and soak. Every 15 minutes, the washer will agitate for four minutes to help circulate the clothes and detergent. At the end of the soak time the timer will automatically advance to either the pre-wash or Heavy wash cycle. There is no need to make another trip to the washer to advance or reset the controls." My questions are 1)how long is the Auto Soak cycle, how many "Every 15 minutes..." cycles does it go through before it automatically advances to the wash cycles? 2) It says it advances to either Pre-Wash or Heavy Wash. What to do you if you don't want either of those cycles & would for example prefer Whites Regular...etc.? 3) How about if you don't want it to advance right away to a wash cycle at all after Auto Soak? Sometimes I like to soak certain things for a couple of hours or overnight & wash them when I'm ready.
Asked by: Sandyland
Hello Sandyland - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. The AutoSoak feature on this washer will begin the cycle with a brief agitation and then an approximate 15 minute soak before moving through the rest of the cycle that you have selected. If you wish to soak an item longer without using the AutoSoak feature, you can fill the washer, and then press the "Stop/Pause" button. However, keep in mind that if the machine is paused for more than 24 hours, the cycle will be cancelled and the water will drain out. Raising the lid will stop agitation and spin action, but it will not pause the cycle. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

How does the rinse cycle work on this machine?

I recently purchased this washing machine and notice the machine spins during a rinse cycle (instead of filling the tub with water and then agitating like the old machine does). Is it normal?
Asked by: JenL
good question, I bought the same machine less than a year ago and still have not figured the spin cycle. I also had a service tech out to fix and told me it was normal? i do not think so

was there a recall on GHWN4250 DWW

I am in the process of buying this machine and on the receipt it says Recall Amount.
Asked by: Beej
If you have made this purchase register the product online like I did so that if recalled you will be covered. It was easy and no cost involved on the GE site.

Customer Reviews

3.9 DOE cu. ft. Top Load Washer in White is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 761.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from A great washer, when it works! We must have got a lemon. We made it through about 7 loads of laundry before it stopped spinning and agitating. We requested service under the warranty but it took three trips from a repair man to get it fixed. On the first trip he didn't have the right part, second trip he replaced the lid switch and the main board but it STILL didn't work and on the third trip he replaced the motor which got it working again. I give GE credit for standing behind their warranty but having a brand new product fail that quickly is very frustrating. Having to go to the laundromat for a month while your brand new washing machine is being repaired one piece at a time is very frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No-Nonsense, Robust, and Solid I bought this product for a number of reasons, and our whole family has been very pleased with it. Call me Old School, but I wanted a "normal" washer -- top-loading, and without the fancy computer board that beeps and talks to you. This washer is just that, only it still has some nice features -- there are lots of settings, such as one for towels and sheets; plus I like the cool water setting -- great for energy savings, and it helps the clothes last longer. Really nice washer for the money, and I feel good that is has the Home Depot name behind it.

Just over 2 years of usage and the rod springs that suspend the bucket have failed. It would be about $240 for parts alone to replace them, not to mention labor. I will not be buying another GE washing machine. Not pleased with a purchase that only lasts 2 years. A washing machine should not be a disposable asset. And it only comes with a 1-year warranty. Not good GE!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from High effeceincy label is misleading Machine works well enough as washers go in general. Is certainly much quieter than previous machine. Drawbacks; manufacturer insists you put detergent in before clothing, thus you are placing clothes directly onto undiluted detergent. While the cycle seems shorter than previous machine, its efficiency claims are valid insomuch as this machine uses 1/2 as much water, therefore even though it has an extra large capacity tub, will only effectively do nearly 1/2 as many clothes. No more washing blankets, only 2 sheets at a time. have had clothes come out without even getting wet. Not sure the agitator really does what is necessary.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad washer I am single and have had it for over 2 years. First it went crazy and there are pieces of the bucket in the washer along with slices in the top of the bucket. So I kept using it and now the agitator doesn't work. Very disappointed!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a GREAT SIMPLE Machine My wife and I were settled on paying $$$ more for a washer with an Electronic Touchpad that had a "steam" option from another big box store. I went into HD expecting to find more of the same, this Model was on sale for $, no fancy control panel, just dials, all the wash and rinse options you could possible need, it was like an upgrade from our 16 yr old Admiral Washer. Machine is SO QUIET!!! and SUPER LARGE, washed 2 queen bedspreads and the spin cycle got them to the point they would have dried out in the sun (clotheline) very quickly. If you want a PRETTY machine...waster your money..not that this one is is a nice, quiet, inexspensive, get the job done well washer
