I bought this product for a number of reasons, and our whole family has been very pleased with it. Call me Old School, but I wanted a "normal" washer -- top-loading, and without the fancy computer board that beeps and talks to you. This washer is just that, only it still has some nice features -- there are lots of settings, such as one for towels and sheets; plus I like the cool water setting -- great for energy savings, and it helps the clothes last longer. Really nice washer for the money, and I feel good that is has the Home Depot name behind it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tdavis Great investment. Works better than front loader
June 8th is the anniversary of this purchase. Waited a full year to write review to provide a fair opinion. Online purchase and double discount application was easy. Delivery and installation was a breeze. The installation guys came in and installed quickly on second floor with minimal talk (what I like). My opinion is; this practical looking machine is THE BOSS of other smart looking machines (touch screens and digital stuff that warrants service repair every other week. lol). This is a VERY good buy. Money well spent. Consumers have been duped to believe the smarter something looks the better it work.....aaaayy wrong! Practical turn knobs get the job done just as well and even better than front loaders. With this washing machine my whites are white and colors are vibrant. My 1st and 2nd loads came out with dingy marks but educated myself and found out that South Grand Prairie, TX water is hard. The solution to hard water stains on your load is to use liquid fabric softeners. I resorted to white distilled vinegar as my rinse and my clothes are beautiful. Top load washers are the best. A great investment. Be a smart consumer. *Side note - frequency use is 2 loads a week
Enjoy your blessings!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PatC How do they keep it so quiet?
After 3 months I can write to say it's achieved a 5 star rating. I had the predecessor of this model for 14 years and had gotten used to it so I stuck with this newer model and I'm glad I did. I kept waiting for it to start washing after it had filled but it fooled me and had already begun. That's how quiet it is. It cleans very well and spins clothes dry even without the extra spin cycle it has. Lots of choices on the knobs so you can't go wrong.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Scott This machine is a joke...
Greetings. This machine is anything but efficient. It will fill to only 10" of water on super setting this after having TWO sensors replaced at OUR expense. I would LOVE to speak with someone from GE about this but we can not get anyone to saying anything other than, 10" of water is normal. Except for that very first CS rep who said, 14" of water on super setting.
Alas, we have figured out how to fix it! Set it on Super and put in a half of a full load. It works GREAT this way.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DianeMarie Really nice washer
After my 10 year old HE washer died, I needed a replacement washing machine. I did not need an expensive washer that does everything but cook! I just needed an inexpensive machine to wash clothes. This washer does a good job, and is quiet while washing. I know others complain about the spin cycle being loud; but all machines make some noise, and it is not bad. Since I had a HE machine before, I was used to the auto-fill selection. My new washer fills up to cover the amount of items to be washed, and no more; so that saves water.
I would have rated a five-star, but my only complaint is no end of cycle tone or beep. My other machine had one, so I knew when my wash was done. This machine does not have this feature, and I miss it. But that's no big deal.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Carl Fast strong washes without the fuss of newer technologies.
There is no substitute for the existence of a true agitator. Without one, special soap and unreasonably long wash times, moisture issues, and more clothes knotting is all you will get. We hope this type of washer is available for a long time to come.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Patsy Manual water level option is a joke!
After much research I bought this machine Oct. 2013. I wish I had returned it when I could.
Another customer has written a right on review of this machine and the problem with the manual water level option in that it does not work and only roughly half the tub fills up with water on the manual "super level" water option.
This machine may have a high tub cubic foot rating but what good does that do you when you can only put water in half the tub at best. On "precise fill" frequently the clothes do not even get fully WET !
I had the GE repair repairman come out in Jan. 2014 because I was only getting about 1/4 of the tub to fill up on super load. He said he needed to reset the manual water level switch behind the control board and he did. I swear the machine then filled up for the most part. At least I was satisfied that I was getting a super load's worth of water in the tub.
Then several months ago, the water level began receding with every wash. Called for repair service again. This time the GE repair man refused to re set the water level meter. He said this machine was "doing what it's supposed to do". He swore it was only supposed to fill half way up ! When I asked him other questions his response was "I don't know" or "I really couldn't say". I had to wait at home all day for him to come, it was a huge inconvenience and waste of my time for what I got. Nothing !
So instead of running a garden hose from my deck through my laundry room window into the washing machine tub as others are doing who have reviewed this washer on other web sites, I am filling up gallon plastic milk jugs with water and adding the water I need to wash large items or items that require "free movement in the washing machine" per care instructions. This is a HUGE hassle but at least I know my clothes are getting reasonably clean in enough water.
What good does a 3.9 cu ft tub do when you can only fill it to half full??? Water is expensive in my community and I am using more water with this machine than I did with my old washer. My electric bill has gone down and my water bill is way up because I have to wash more loads !
I am donating this washer to a local animal rescue group and getting another machine when I can afford it. It won't be a GE and you can bet I will make sure how much water actually goes into the tub on each cycle BEFORE I buy it. It will be as old fashioned as I can find !
I am attaching a picture of a plain double (not double-queen) lightweight fleece blanket that is being washed on "super load". Can you imagine trying to wash a king blanket or comforter in this small amount of water????

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MJ77 Couldn't be happier.
Washing machines with agitators are few and far between and I was happy to find quite a few options left at Home Depot. This machine is awesome. It is so unbelievably quiet. A few times I have opened the lid thinking the cycle was over, but it is just that quiet. I have to get used to having lights at the top that alert you to what part of the cycle the machine is in. The basin is HUGE. I can easily wash an entire weeks worth of my husband's grungy, mud ridden work pants and they come out perfectly clean. I love the soak option and the spin cycle is the best. Clothes come out nearly dry by the time the spinning has stopped, which means less time in the dryer. I was sad when my old washing machine started having problems, but I can easily say I am happy it happened because I love this washing machine!
