Customer Questions & Answers

Why this is called Temporary?

I want a generator inlet to be installed on my outside wall, Does the name mean it's not for permanent installation?
Asked by: Anonymous
The installation of the outlet is permanent, however, it is meant to be used for temporary power via connecting your home to a generator during utility outage. You must also install a generator interlock system to prevent back feeding the utility company. This is a code and a safety issue. Please consult a licensed electrical contractor for this.

Is this box for outdoor use ?

I want to install an inlet box going to my transfer switch, but I want it outside, vs being in the garage, for the shortest run to the transfer switch and to keep carbon monoxide aware from doors and windows. Can this box be used in rain / snow / storm situations ?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, it is designed for outdoor use.

Is the device a L14-30P?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, this would technically be a plug and not "R" as in receptacle. It is a reverse outlet.

I have 6-3 wire with ground will these connections accept wire this size ???

I know 10-3 is adequate for 30 amps but I have #6 wire on hand
Asked by: carman605
Hi Carman605, I finally reached a GE technical person, who stated that yes, you can use this inlet with 6-3 wire with a ground. The lug is big enough.

30 Amp Temporary Power Inlet is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from watch for bee's Product works great. You can shut the cover with the cord plugged in which makes the connection very watertight. However, the cover is completely open at the bottom (about 1.5"x4") which has lead to many bee's building nests up inside. I have had to place some tape over this opening to prevent this from happeneing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicely built, but big. Box is big, but like the fact you can close box with cord attached protecting it from weather. Only worry about is opening in bottom. I'm afraid bees may build nests on it. I may just tape up opening until needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from impressive build quality I have just received this in the mail today. It is not yet installed but my first impression is that this is one very solid product. I checked out the more common inlet which was stocked at the store and this one is much larger than that one….but at this point I feel that I chose the better inlet for the money. This one feels virtually bombproof…..it's all metal construction except for the actual plug. The heft and build quality are the primary reason I prefer this one, and the second reason would be the metal door that covers the connection and several inches below thus making it rainproof while in use. It's comforting knowing that there will be no water intrusion no matter what Mother Nature throws its way. It's hard to believe that this inlet was actually around $4 cheaper than the one I saw at the store. If you don't mind the larger size I would suggest you give this box a look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big, but high quality If you want a weather tight box, then this is the one. Yes, it is much larger than some of the other inlets, but this one is weather tight even with the generator plug connected. This seems important as you might be running your generator in the rain. The 10/3 wire connects up easily to this box with screw terminals. It looks good enough closed and I won't really notice it until I need it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is great. I had made several trips to supply houses to find a electrical box so i could attach my generator to our house. Then finding this one line i decided to try it. The shipping was super fast and wiring into main panel was as simple as it could get. I have tried it and it works great. i may never use it for a power outage, but i'm ready now. Thanks

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value and function. Timely delivery. Solid construction. Design will shield receptacle from driving rain or snow. Verify the receptacle plate is properly aligned between the dimples in the housing during installation. Met expectations. Less force required to insert the twist-lock cord compared to another popular competing brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for what I needed to connect my Generator to the house Compared to other places that sell this type of hardware this by far was the cheapest. Quality appears good, we'll see after a couple years after this has been outside. This particular model is what you want because it shields your plug connection in the rain/snow. Some other brands don't do this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent value. The inlet box is perfectly designed for a generator transfer chord. It is weatherproof whether the chord is installed or not. It has a very good safety feature in that it can be locked when not in use --or even in use.
