Answer:
Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. The only way any parts could be used from the older cooktop is if they were the exact same part number used in the newer cooktop. It is doubtful these two units use the same part numbers. I hope this helps! Thanks for choosing GE!

Hello,
This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help.
Cast iron cookware is not recommended for use on any of GE's ceramic glass cooktops, including this model JP336SDSS. This also includes cast iron griddles. If the cookware/griddle has a burr or rough spot, it will scratch the glass surface. Additionally, it is slow to absorb heat. Once this type of cookware heats up, especially on high heat, it holds an intense amount of heat which is transferred to the cooktop. This can cause the element to shut down as a response to the temperature limiters which indicate surface temperature is too high for cooktop components to handle.
Some cookware manufacturers that offer non-cast iron griddles recommend the use of their griddles that extend across 2 burners. If recommended by the cookware manufacturer that it is acceptable for radiant/glass ceramic cooktops and is not cast iron, then it may be used on GE radiant/glass ceramic products.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not so pleased contacting GE Thisglass top scratche with brand newpots specifically ( not cheap) designed for glass cooktops Everytime I use it new scratches no matterhow careful I am July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product - Great Value Nicer than ranges costing much more. i needed a cook-top under 29" wide - therefore my choices were limited & this was a great choice. Installation Tip! - I used this cook-top to replace an old Jenn-Air that was much taller. I had a local glass shop cut a black glass plate for the front edge to cover old larger cutout area. This looks great - and works well! December 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great replacement cooktop! Cooktop is exactly as shown . Very easy installation For do it yourself people. Didn't even need an electrician. Measure opening carefully. October 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Replacement..... This was a replacement for my other GE stove top that was about to go out! I was able to replace it with this unit easily enough myself! My wife loves the "power boil" burners. So far, so good! April 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy! Love this stovetop. I went from an old coil stove to this stove. I've always wanted a ceramic stove top. I really like how it heats up fast (power boil is great) and then evenly maintains the heat. It cleans well if you use the ceramic cleaner that comes with it. I read many of the reviews of this and other stove tops on HD website. This one had better reviews for something in this price range and I agree with what they said. I've only had it a few weeks but I'm very happy with it so far. March 24, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Little Cooktop A direct replacement for our old one, this dropped in nicely and easy to install. You do need very flat pots and pans to transfer heat efficiently though. Needs to be cleaned frequently. Only minor gripe is the heat indicators. They are on, obviously, to show it's hot but they go off when the temperature gets down to 150F (according to the manual) which is still pretty warm !!!! I always leave something on that ring till it's much cooler now. April 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great improvement I replaced an old GE coil electric cooktop. This fit in the same opening and is a great improvement. Much nicer looking, easier to clean, and heat is very even. February 25, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 30-inch cooktop will be installing soon but it looks like the advertised product. A warning is that "free" removal of the old appliance is dependent on you spending extra money to disconnect the appliance - they will not do it and do not tell you that this is a criteria for removal.
