Is it quiet?

Must be quiet. Most refrigerators are unacceptably loud. How does this compare?

Customer Reviews

30 in. W 20 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator in Stainless Steel is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not your mom's GE I had an almost identical GE fridge for 15 years. It was still working, but not getting cold enough, so I replaced it with this. I have not even finished loading it, and I already am frustrated with the product. I was told not to buy a GE--they are not as good as they used to be--but in my price range, this was the only one that had most of the options I wanted. Friends recommended a side-by-side, but they cost more and all have an in-door dispenser which I can't use and wouldn't if I could. This fridge is only 1 cu smaller than my old one, but it holds far less and is not as well-designed. There is a lot of waste space in thicker door bins and shelves and the cabinet itself. It has only 5 door bins (instead of 6), the crisper drawers are too high but not deep enough, the shelf configuration is very limited. The lowest rung is only 3" above the crisper drawer shelf, but the next rung up is 8", which puts the upper shelves too high to hold milk, soda, etc.. The metal hook on the upper shelves are so high that they have to go at least 2 rungs above the lower shelf. If I put the tall things in the door, then I have to put a lot of little things on the shelves. I thought the point of the door bins was to hold all those little things, because they get shoved to the back of a shelf where you can't see them . Fortunately, I kept the snack drawer from my old fridge and put a lot of the little things in there. Both the door bins and shelves are very difficult to move, with the door bins getting stuck when you try to take them out or put them in. And like the shelves, they don't adjust to the heights I need, but while the shelves are too close, the bins have a lot of waste space between. The most frustrating thing is that I spent $250 more than I wanted to on this fridge because I wanted the features and I thought I would be unhappy with the lower-priced fridges. Oh, and one more thing: I was told it would cool down in 2 hours. I left food out so I wouldn't have the doors open and it could cool. But it is now almost 5 hours later and the fridge is still far too warm to move dairy products into, so they are in my patio fridge.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Perfect Granted my last refrigerator lasted me close to 20 years. This one is the closest to size constraints I have so I purchased it to go with my GE stove. I have lost a tremendous amount of space inside, I am not crazy about the extra wide door storage, everything you read says DON'T put your milk or creamer there, it does not stay cold enough. The crispers are smaller and the thing is just noisy. It actually growls, I growl back! Had it just two weeks now, still trying to adjust to it. I just feel I could have spent $500 instead of $900 and gotten the same space and quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great product I was surprised how light this refrigerator was when taking it up porch steps and into the kitchen. I travel considerably and many hotels have this refrigerator, which is a reason that I chose it. It is roomy, deeper than my previous refrigerator and overall is well-designed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice refrigerator with a serious flaw The refrigerator has an up-front rotary dial to adjust the temperature. This up-front dial is listed as selling point but ends up being a serious flaw. We set the dial at a starting point of 5 as recommended by the manufacturer. Almost every day we find the dial at another number including 0 which is off. The dial is right in the way of your hand and when you reach for food on the top shelf it gets moved. GE needs to fix this problem and give the fix to present owners. I can see how a simple shield could solve this problem. We almost lost the contents of the refrigerator when we found the dial at 0 one day. I do not expect to check the dial each day for the next 15 years. Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks great, works poorly I should have returned it when I had the chance. This refrigerator has a great set up, and so I thought I would really like it. Unfortunately, the actual refrigeration part doesn't work well. I keep it set at 6, and yet anything in the back part of the fridge gets frozen. The freezer door won't stay sealed shut, but pops open every time anyone opens or shuts the fridge. I put a child lock on it to keep it shut, but it still pops. In addition, the freezer has only one shelf, and there is no way to organize things in there. The freezer temperature also has problems - everything gets frosted up right away (probably because the door keeps popping open...). I had such a difficult time getting them to deliver the right model that I couldn't deal with going through that again to get this one replaced, but I'm starting to wish I had. I will never buy a GE fridge again. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BAD!!! The freezer door pops open every time you close the fridge door. Only had it for a couple months and already had to de-ice the freezer because of the condensation freezing after the door had popped open. Also agree with all the other complaints

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very poor design I have the same problem that several other reviewers have pointed out. A serious design flaw with this refrigerator is the placement of the temperature control dial. It is too easy to move the dial unknowingly when accessing the top shelf. In only a few months of ownership I have done it several times and only realize that I accidentally changed the setting when I found food in the freezer compartment defrosting. If I had realized this when I was shopping for a new refrigerator I never would have purchased this model. It's such a bad product flaw that I think GE should recall this model. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay refrigerator with a design flaw This refrigerator offers an okay value and has a spacious freezer but also has what I consider to be a major design flaw as has been pointed out by other reviewers. The temperature dial is located just above the top shelf and is easily changed without knowing it when accessing items in the refrigerator. I have inadvertently moved the dial several times in the short time that I have owned the refrigerator. I only realized it when food started to thaw in the freezer. Upon checking I saw that the temperature setting was changed from 6 to 1 or 2. If i had realized this when shopping for a new refrigerator I probably would not have purchased this model.
