Our kitchen has limited space for the refrigerator width. This model replaced a 25 year old GE model of the same physical size and layout (different color). The older unit is still operating but needed some work, door seals and a good cleaning, so it is now used in a different location in the house. This new unit is very quiet and has a little more room inside versus the older one, it's 1 inch deeper and uses modern insulation, which allows thinner walls. If the new unit runs for 25 years like the older one, I'll be very pleased.

I was happy to find this fridge online since I needed a slightly smaller one that would fit in my kitchen. Ice maker works well. Nice stainless steel finish.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Goldnboy Ice maker issues - dead on arrival
I chose this model/product due to to choice of only three brands with a side by side for 33.5 in or smaller fridge. I looked at reviews of other brands and saw no negative comments. However this one had the ice maker's crushed ice feature not working on arrival. Everything thing else works, it is quiet has great ice production, good delivery and setup by Home Depot. But I am disappointed by GE service of this. GE came out and the tech had to order the part and said will ship it to your house and install next week. It never happened I had to call GE myself the tech showed that the previous service was competed (wrong). Now I am two days taken off wasted and the ice maker not fixed yet. Why isn't this tested by GE before shipping to consumer? It is not like you can test the ice maker when installed since you have no ice then!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Robert Constant Ice Maker Issues and 1 breakdown in 7 years.
All: I have owned this unit for 8 years, but this unit started giving me trouble after year 5. I have had the ice-maker repaired twice, and it's broken a third time. Im done. And the overall fridge stopped working on another occasion. The icemaker issue is that it was (and now is again) stuck on crushed ice no matter what setting it's on. It has now broken a third time and rather than rack up repair bills that have now equaled the price I paid for it new, I am looking for a new fridge, made by someone else, preferrably manufactured in the USA. I notice a lot of reviews critical of the icemaker function- so new buyers take heed. It looks like GE has done nothing to address the icemaker problem, which is sad because I really like the design.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by forrest356 very frustrating
we've owned this fridge for two years and though it looks good, soon after purchase the ice maker started messing up and within 6 months the water line leaked and for over a year and a half now we have been chipping ice out of the freezer and breaking ice cubes apart. We also had to replace the auger motor that froze and the plastic auger broke after little use and no longer pulls ice forward. GE offers very little warranty service and charged me over a $100 to look at the fridge... all I got from the technician was the parts I needed to buy on Ebay, becuase he would have charged over $400 for work and parts that take about 30 minutes to replace.
I bought this fridge so that I had an ice maker that worked and that's the one thing we don't have.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by BR65 Smaller than thought
The only reason I purchased this fridge was that it seemed to be the only one small enough to fit our space - the previous owners had a wider fridge which fit the space better, but all my measurements seemed to indicate that we only had a couple of options to fit the shorter height. I didn't realize that the height was based upon the top part of the hinge which is normally in the front of the fridge, and not under our cabinets. We have a few inches gap now and the fridge sticks out into our kitchen more than our previous fridge did. We could have purchased a different unit.
I do like the water and ice as we had never had that (had to have a water line installed, but not a big deal), it could be our water, but it does go through the filter in the fridge and I think it tastes funny. I have a Brita pitcher which I was hoping to get rid of as well and that water tastes much better. (We are on well water and have a really good water softener system.)
The fridge is a little smaller than what we are used to, but I am sure it is using less energy and since it is a side-by-side, it is easier to grab things at eye level. It's not a bad unit, I was just disappointed that I measured and remeasured and could have had a fridge that filled the space better.

Had a Maytag for 8 yrs-thought we would try another brand. Disappointed with lack of 33" wide choices-most stores do not have them in store to compare. The refrigerator side is smaller that our old Maytag. You have to put the gallon of milk in the door to get the most shelf space. Water runs down the door after getting a glass of water and ice ( whole or crushed) shoots out with such force that most of it ends up on the floor. Next time we will be buying a bigger (average size) refrigerator if I have to knock-down some cabinets because I'm tired of paying more for a smaller refrigerator.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jorge Overall the refrigerator is fine.
Unfortunately one has to pay a small fortune to get a counter fitting refrigerator nowadays. Unless you special order one, good luck at finding a refrigerator that is 36in W x 68.5in H x 28 in D. Most standard refrigerators are too deep and/or too tall. This GE product comes the closest but is still too deep at 34 inches.
Features wise the refrigerator seems well equipped. We also purchased the HD extended warranty.
