we will not be able to hook up the water/icemaker, but want to use its spaces in the freezer compartment and on the freezer door for other freezer purposes. individual popsicles or icecream bars? Ice cube trays? icepacks? frozen herbs? buttersticks? anything small enough to fit such as 8ounce juice boxes or haha snowballs.

Hello,
This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to answer your question.
Yes, this space can be used for storage of freezer items. We do recommend that the icemaker be turned off when doing this. See the instructions for this in the Owner's Manual.
Thank you for checking.

Answer:
Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. You do not have to hook the refrigerator up to a water line in order for the refrigerator to work properly. Just be sure that you keep the icemaker turned off. You may also want to keep the dispenser controls locked with the "Control Lock" pad on the front of the dispenser. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Answer:
Hi Jane,
You do not have to hookup the water supply. If you don't you will simply not have ice or water from the dispenser.
The refrigerator will run fine.
Mike

Dear Valued HomeDepot Customer,
We reached out to the MFG for more information and below is their response.
"This is Kim from GE. I will be happy to help. The usual evidence of a clogged drain in a side by side is the discovery of ice under the bottom basket in the freezer compartment, in addition to a puddle of water on the floor when it runs out the freezer door. Some side-by-side models have the defrost drain hole located on the back wall of the freezer, just up from where the floor slopes up to the back, in the center. In some models it is behind a plastic panel held in place by a screw. Remove screw and panel, and the drain hole will be visible. Flush out the drain hole with a solution of 1 tsp. baking soda and 2 cups of hot tap water in a meat/turkey (bulb) baster. When clear, you will hear water running down into the drain pan below. If this does not remedy the situation, we would recommend contacting GE Service at 1-800-432-2737. Thank you for checking with us." Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 187 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Space limited Our kitchen has limited space for the refrigerator width. This model replaced a 25 year old GE model of the same physical size and layout (different color). The older unit is still operating but needed some work, door seals and a good cleaning, so it is now used in a different location in the house. This new unit is very quiet and has a little more room inside versus the older one, it's 1 inch deeper and uses modern insulation, which allows thinner walls. If the new unit runs for 25 years like the older one, I'll be very pleased. July 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great fridge for the space I was happy to find this fridge online since I needed a slightly smaller one that would fit in my kitchen. Ice maker works well. Nice stainless steel finish. October 2, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mediocre Had a Maytag for 8 yrs-thought we would try another brand. Disappointed with lack of 33" wide choices-most stores do not have them in store to compare. The refrigerator side is smaller that our old Maytag. You have to put the gallon of milk in the door to get the most shelf space. Water runs down the door after getting a glass of water and ice ( whole or crushed) shoots out with such force that most of it ends up on the floor. Next time we will be buying a bigger (average size) refrigerator if I have to knock-down some cabinets because I'm tired of paying more for a smaller refrigerator. June 25, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor description - Side panels are not stainless & the description should have stated the only thing stainless is the front First of all, I did NOT get a phone call the day before to schedule the delivery. I got a call the morning of the delivery & the guy said he would be at my house in 30 minutes. So, I start unloading my old ref and within 7 minutes he's ringing my door bell wanting to bring in my new one. Also, poor description - Side panels are not stainless & the description should have stated that the only thing stainless is the front and the sides are BLACK. Overall, not a good look for my $30,000 all white kitchen remodel. I'm thinking about sending it back because the black sides ruins the look of my very expensive kitchen. October 5, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Constant Ice Maker Issues and 1 breakdown in 7 years. All: I have owned this unit for 8 years, but this unit started giving me trouble after year 5. I have had the ice-maker repaired twice, and it's broken a third time. Im done. And the overall fridge stopped working on another occasion. The icemaker issue is that it was (and now is again) stuck on crushed ice no matter what setting it's on. It has now broken a third time and rather than rack up repair bills that have now equaled the price I paid for it new, I am looking for a new fridge, made by someone else, preferrably manufactured in the USA. I notice a lot of reviews critical of the icemaker function- so new buyers take heed. It looks like GE has done nothing to address the icemaker problem, which is sad because I really like the design. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Like very much overall The fridge is very nice as far as features. Ice and water dispensers work nicely so far. The light that comes on at the top of the dispenser is nice. It is a bit small, especially the freezer but we had a very tight space it had to fit into and this fridge is one of the smaller side-by-sides. A deep freezer is a must b/c getting large or many items in the freezer is difficult. Just a note: the first one delivered had a huge dent in it and we had to send it back causing us enormous inconvenience in the mean time waiting for the other one. April 25, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by very frustrating we've owned this fridge for two years and though it looks good, soon after purchase the ice maker started messing up and within 6 months the water line leaked and for over a year and a half now we have been chipping ice out of the freezer and breaking ice cubes apart. We also had to replace the auger motor that froze and the plastic auger broke after little use and no longer pulls ice forward. GE offers very little warranty service and charged me over a $100 to look at the fridge... all I got from the technician was the parts I needed to buy on Ebay, becuase he would have charged over $400 for work and parts that take about 30 minutes to replace. I bought this fridge so that I had an ice maker that worked and that's the one thing we don't have. September 19, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Odd-sized Overpriced Ill-Finished - but it works Odd sized replacement that would fit and was available (other brands back-ordered). Identical with almost no innovation in 10+ years to the dying GE model it replaced! Works, is quieter than the 10-year old replaced model, but has worse finish on the doors, hinges, shelves, overall alignments - you name it. Disappointed at the absolute lack of innovation or improvement, the ridiculously high price (larger fridges are cheaper because there are more choices/competitors; only 3 available in this odd size, only this GE for immediate delivery!) I wish I could redo the kitchen and get a cheaper, larger, different fridge instead! The only saving graces - quiet, cold, stays on very little (the first utility bill should confirm energy savings) and has a working ice maker (the old GE fridge's ice maker broke 5+ years ago). If this sounds like a reach to say something nice, it is! May 4, 2013
