Customer Questions & Answers

When do I add detergent? Can I add before hitting Start?

It sounds like the washer is draining during the 'Sensing/Fill'' cycle. My detergent isn't drained out during this Sensing cycle when lid locks, correct?
Asked by: Michael
You want to add the detergent before you add the clothes.

Consumer Reports list this machine as a Top Loader Agitator and not as a HE one. Can we use regular detergents?
Asked by: Len
Yes. Mine says it is a HE machine. I make my own detergent. This machine washes our clothes much better than our old machine did.

is agitator suppose to come off in machine

Just Got machine and washed a thin blanket that didn't fill machine even half full. When went to take it out of machine agitator was off. Snapped it back in and did a load with two bath towels did it again. Why is this happening what a joke if can't even wash two towels or a small blanket in machine.
Asked by: Patricia
Have been in contact with Home Depot as it broke fabric softener cup. Happy to say they said it is a defect because it came off in every load done. They r bringing a new one out in few days

I thought I could wash a comforter

Just bought the machine 4 days ago. Washed my queen comforter and it broke the agitator clean off. All plastic, of course. I'm going to take the machine back and get another, but I don't trust it now.

To have a machine that works like a charm, totally fuss free and efficient, that made it through 8 moves all over the country and took care of a family of 5 for 30 years - I'm realizing now, my 1986 GE Filter Flo was priceless. Laundry is a necessary evil; you just want it done well and get it behind you. You aren't supposed to have to THINK about it and STRESS over it. It's not home decor, not a special event, not a skill or a craft. It's HOUSEWORK. I sure hope I don't regret it but I went ahead and replaced the one that broke with the same machine. I'm just so overwhelmed with reading reviews and hearing how most people aren't happy with ANY machine they've bought within the last 10-15 years. I decided it really didn't matter; I know I won't ever experience the same lasting satisfaction with anything I buy today. I'll never understand why GE would discontinue such a valuable, indispensable product.

It requires some user interaction with respect to fill level if one wants a custom fill, but that's a nice feature. It did get out of balance when I washed our poly-fill king-size comforter. It doesn't have a "hand wash" setting, but "delicates" is fine for bras, etc. It does not seem to do a total spin cycle on the first rinse when "2nd rinse" is selected, but seems to clean the laundry. I'm only giving 4 stars because we haven't had it long enough to be 100% certain that it is functioning properly. Be sure that the drain inlet is well-sealed before using. Otherwise, it may leak.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sensor Washing, worst thing ever !!!! I tried out this machine for 1 month, today it is being picked up and returned. Sensor washing, low water and slow agitation may be the new breakthrough, but nothing beats being able to adjust the water level you want to use, or how long you want to wash your items. I tried small loads where the sensor sensed no clothes inside and shut down twice on me. I tried 2 down jackets, bulky but light, even with the deep water button pushed, it wouldn't cover the jackets, not just a low water treatment, half way up, hardly wetting the complete jackets. Forget about ever giving a very soiled item a vigorous washing or soaking, not going to happen. To sum it up, try to stick with a machine without sensors, one with control on water levels, timers, soaking, and agitation control. You don't need to hear music when buttons are pushed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as promised We were looking for a washing machine that would wash king size bedding, use a reasonable amount of water, wash quickly if needed, manage to wash delicates without shredding and still remain reasonably priced. We have had this washing machine for 4 months now, we run 2-3 loads a day and have not had a single problem. They don't make them like they used to (in the old days) with tons of water and three wash settings. Now, with water regulations, and a better understanding of laundry, this washing machine strikes a nice balance of meeting regulations while still deep cleaning the clothes. While researching I read many comments (about other washers) that claimed that the only way to get clothes clean was to have lots and lots of water. Ongoing research, and this washing machine, are proving otherwise. Think about washing dishes in a sink - if you need to wash a dozen plates, you can wash them with a little water and a little soap. More water simply dilutes the soap. Lots of water and lots of soap will get clothes clean but a little soap and a little water (with a clean water rinse) will also get the clothes clean. When the clothes go in, it locks the lid and spins the clothes (without water) a few times to weigh the clothes to determine the size of the load. You can choose from three water settings - 1. the amount of water the machine feels it needs, 2. tap the fill button once and it dumps in another gallon or so or 3. hold the fill button and it will put in as much water as possible (it does not fill to the top but does put in quite a bit of water). Importantly you can add the forgotten item of clothing even after the cycle has started (when in the agitating cycle) - the lid does not lock during agitation (it does lock while spinning). When you add an item, the agitator stops, and you can add the item. When you close the lid, the machine adds a little water and starts up again. It has a variety of settings (delicates, normal, heavy duty) and also allows for a variety of washing cycles. It has different settings for regular clothes, one for jeans, one for towels, one for delicates, etc. This seems to change how aggressively or gently it agitates the clothing. It does not agitate the clothes as roughly as the old machines - it agitates back and forth a few times, lets the clothes rest for a few seconds to let the soap do what it does, then it agitates again, rests, agitates, rest, agitates, etc. It runs a warm rinse that gets all of the soap out and then spins the heck out of the clothes to wring every drop out of the clothing. Drying time is drastically reduced. Fast washing gets clothes washed in about 25 minutes. It does have settings that allows for soaking, second rinses, etc. It has a dial that (apparently) changes the cleaning approach based on whether the stain in tomato, grass or dirt. It has a quiet tune when it starts up and a quiet tune when it finishes. I would strongly recommend this washing machine. A large, stainless steel drum can easily takes the mattress pad, fitted sheet and top sheet from a king size bed. It does not move during the spin cycle (just make sure that clothes are fairly evenly distributed). It may twist the sheets up a bit but if I were in a drum spinning at 800 rpm I might be a little twisted too.....

Walks - even after being leveled it walks around. Speed - takes forever to sense the load, and start the cycle. Usability - have to activate cycle multiple times just to get one load to run.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Machine ever I have had this washer one yr. now and it has been the most disappointing machine I have ever owned. If I could get my money back I would absolutely return this unit. Length of time to wash is too long, Lid lock is not a benefit when you have an unbalanced load It is not user friendly, now I'm stuck with it :(
