Customer Questions & Answers

The GTW460ASJWW we just had installed today makes a noise associated with the agitator operation which we believe to be excessive

We have used the machine and are satisfied (so far) with the quality of its performance. However, the noise that is being experienced sounds like a bearing is bad, or perhaps there is some kind of scraping. It is rhythmic and associated with the agitation cycle(s). The machine was just installed earlier today. The noise (one person says) sounds like a large animal in its death throes. Seriously, we need to have this addressed because this noise is beyond reasonableness. We did have a Profile Prodigy which never made any such noises (it quit after long years of good service). There is also a vibration (especially on spin cycle) which we believe to be beyond normal limits.
Asked by: Eac1968
Eac1968 I have all of the same problems. My machine is about 5 months old.I was worried about the bearing sound in my machine as well. So I called a repair man. He told me that it was water swishing on the bottom of the machine when it drains and spins. I argued with him and told that i did not think that was it Anyway I fiddled around with the door and got it opened while machine was running I turned the agitator and heard that sound and the water had pumped out already...so I will be calling them again, but asking for a different repairman All in all I'm not crazy about the machine.Give me the good old fashion ones .where you can open them to arrange clothes or add fabric softener.

I like the top loading an agitator in the GE washing machine. However reviews about the very loud noise are a BIG CONCER

Asked by: Mary
I have had my machine for 2 weeks and the laundry room is right off of the kitchen (no door between them). I find this machine to be super quiet. I have gone in to check to make sure it is actually running it is so quiet.

Asked by: Eastsider
No along with the other comments, this washer only fills about 1/3 with water even on the deepest fill option. I end up adding 3 gallons of water from my kitchen sink to cover the laundry with water. It is also the LOUDEST washer ever. I HATE IT but stuck with it now.

Does anyone have a problem with the washer vibrating really fast and loud

Asked by: Debbie
Yes, I just purchased a GE GTW460SJ5WW. It continuously goes into OUT of Balance Mode. The washer will actually vibrate moving the machine several inches, This I consider a serious safety issues, especially if one has minor children. The serviceman was out and gave us numerous rules about loading clothes. The machine still vibrates. He tested it without clothes, worked fine. That was all he was instructed to do. Works great without clothes. There is a out of balance problem with this GE Model.

We both love this washing machine, it does the job quickly and efficiently with a little noise, not too much for us. It is smaller than expected on the outside and therefore fits in our space better, but huge on the inside, the drum is quite large. I am always surprised at how clean things are and with minimal water usage. It is sooooo much better than the horrible front loading one we had before (we will never even consider a front opening one again) . I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a simple, efficient, great washer.

I've had it for about a month now and love all the different settings it has. I didn't give it 5 stars because it is quite loud. Also, it takes almost 10 minutes for it to fill the drum with water when set on the "super" load setting. I'm not sure the deep-fill option works as it is described to. I haven't gotten it to work yet but for me it's not a big issue since I don't usually overfill my washer. It does hold my king size comforter with a little room to spare which is just great! No more trips to the laundromat just to wash my bedding. Despite it being loud when agitating, it really is a great washer.

I dont usually write reviews like this, but i had such a horrible experience with GE and this machine I felt I wanted to warn others. Less than 6 months of purchase this machine would go out of balance and material in machine at the end of cycle was dripping wet, particularly with blankets. Six service calls later, GE said since there was nothing broken on the machine there was nothing they could do for me. It is true there was nothing broken, just a poorly designed machine, which the last service man agreed with. This machine was also the loudest washing machine I have ever heard, almost comical. I will never buy another GE appliance. I had a good experience with Home Depot, they eventually did take the machine back, which I really appreciated. I then bought a Maytag front loader from them and it works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old School... Love It! I had a new washing machine without the tower for agitation. It was an energy/water saver. I hated that I couldn't control water levels and it felt like clothes weren't really being moved around. I purchased this new machine about one month ago. The first load I put in came out visibly cleaner than the more expensive model it replaced. I love having that agitation tower and I can control the water level! I hope GE continues making machines with towers! As far as noise level... It is a bit noisier, but I can easily overlook that when my clothes are coming out cleaner. This less expensive washer is better than more expensive models! Save your money and get this machine!

She is a laundry fanatic, even though she lives alone she is washing something every day. She's worn out many a washer, with four kids she used to run several loads a day; this might be her tenth or twelfth washer.. Her last washer did not have an agitator, and that was one feature she insisted the new one have. She also wanted the option of specifying the water level, rather than relying on an automatic, water saving feature. This washer checked all the boxes for her, and now that she has it she absolutely loves it. This has the capacity and the versatility to satisfy the advanced washing machine user.

Bought this washer and had it for 8 weeks. It stopped working and the repairman GE sent out has been trying to fix it for 3 weeks. First it was the control panel, then the power cord. 3 weeks without a washer and still not fixed. GE has terrible customer service. I told their customer service: "I DON'T WANT THIS WASHER ANYMORE, IT'S JUNK ! ". They said "call Home depot". GE just trying to pass the buck. They don't build the quality product that they had in the past. BUYER BEWARE, DO NOT BUY GE PRODUCTS ANYMORE ! IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A QUALITY PRODUCT, LOOK ELSEWHERE.........

I bought this machine at the end of August 2016 when we purchased our house. As of today, I have had it serviced 4 times! That is once a month so far. Today the repair person came back to replace some parts that he had to order. After waiting for this appointment I was told he found a different problem and has to order more parts. Now the machine is going to be out of order for 1 week until he gets more parts. I'm growing skeptical. I would have been better off buying a different washing machine, even a used one. I won't buy a GE appliance ever again. Home Depot should stop selling this model in my opinion. Tomorrow I will call GE and give them a piece of my mind.

Funny how when the 1 year warranty runs out things go wrong. My drain pump went bad. The cheap plastic part on the impeller shaft wore a hole in the plastic housing - which is ridiculous! Fortunately I am handy and fixed it myself for a $72 dollar replacement pump (probably a $250-$300 job to your average consumer). I have a scratch and dent Whirlpool that is 7 years old and still performing flawlessly at another house. Anyway, this machine has a stepper motor (I believe) instead of the old school transmission and a computer board instead of cogs and levers to control it. It sounds weird and acts weird but it does wash the clothes (which is the only reason I gave it two stars). I would not recommend this machine to anyone - no part should fail after less than a year of actual service. Try another brand.
