Customer Questions & Answers

How wide is the bar than goes between the stove & the wall for JSP39SNSS & JSS28DNWW

Our cutout is not to the wall but it is deeper than the recommended 23 & 3/16. Therefore we will need the bar to cover the extra space & overlap the granite. Could this be a problem?
Asked by: Anonymous
Not sure I fully understand the question, but I would plan on lots of trial and error (moving the stove in and out) before doing any cutting or adding a bar. Watch that the stove top doesn't scratch the counter. We used some pieces of vinyl floor molding as a buffer between the two.

How hot does the oven top between the burners get? I want coil top because I want to use my "vintage" Revere ware copper bottom pots.

I have an old ceramic burner stove with downdraft that I "inherited" when buying the house > 20 years ago. Doing a renovation and will place an under counter vent and want coil because I am frankly not willing to change my style of cooking and I do use copper bottom and cast iron pans. Concerned that there are so few coil top options and don't want the surface to get too hot between the burners. Want durability and reliability and utility above all.
Asked by: Onyx
Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. The cooktop can get hot to the touch if you are using the burners and/or the oven. On ranges with Calrod coils, the oven vents from beneath the right rear burner. When the oven is in use, heat is exhausted under that coil. Avoid covering the right rear Calrod element with a decorative burner cover. This will cause heat to build up under the cooktop when the oven is in use. Also check the pan size. Oversized pans will trap heat between the bottom of the pan and the cooktop; this will transfer a lot of heat to the cooktop. Your pans should not hang over more than one inch on each side of any surface burner. (e.g., on an eight inch burner the maximum pan size should not exceed ten inches.) Make sure the burners are uncovered. Covering the drip pans with aluminum foil will transfer more heat to the cooktop. Also, dark or porcelain drip pans can conduct more burner heat to the cooktop than bright aluminum drip pans under your Calrod coil surface elements. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Are the knobs required to be pushed in before they can be turned? Also, are the knobs removable so that you can clean behind them?

Asked by: Marie
Hello Marie, This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help. Yes, the knobs must be pushed in before they can be turned and they may be removed for easy cleaning. Make sure the knobs are in the OFF position and pull them straight off the stems for cleaning. Thank you for checking!

Customer Reviews

4.4 cu. ft. Slide-In Electric Range with Self-Cleaning Oven in White is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from GE 30 Inch Slide-In Range - Inferior Leveling Feet The overall quality and features of this U.S. made product is pretty good and the aesthetic design is really good. The controls are easy to read/use, top access for cleaning spills is good and the oven has a larger 'window' than most ranges. The only negative is the 'leveling' feet, which are plastic and after adjustment rotate easily when sliding the range into place; there is no method of locking the feet to prevent this and after leveling adjustments are made, obvious plastic shavings from the feet were noted on the floor. The leveling system used on a range of this price range (~$1200.00) is sub-standard at best.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stove has several problems Stove top is not level - there's a hump in the middle. The front burners tip down towards the front. The broiler has only two levels of heating, while our 19 year old Kitchen Aid had 5 levels. (Wife is not happy!) There is only one light to indicate that a burner is on - not obvious which one it is. Our Kitchen Aid had a separate light for each burner. The burner dials are not made properly - they appear to look the same when they are on level 5 and when they are off - no difference. (Wife is really upset!) The front sides are not really finished properly - don't look good. We pushed the stove in further to hide this, but now I see that it may be in too far to work on the front panel. I think we may have hidden the side screws on the front panel which may have to be unscrewed to lift it for maintenance. (I am really upset with this) The stove (Slide In) was different in size than the KitchenAid it replaced. We had to cut the counter on either side as well as in the back. The specs made us think that it would fit without any cutting. It required an expert cabinet maker to do these adjustments (over $200.00). The stove was in and out many times before we were comfortable with the fit. SO, in summary, this stove cannot hold a candle to the 19 year old stove it replaced. The old K.A. worked well, had more features, had dials and settings that made more sense, and was better quality all around. It also looked great - nice clean, finished lines (front, top, sides). That stove was around $700. This one, with the warranty, was almost $1,400. As they say, do the math! I think GE needs to make this right!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slide In Range So far I really like the range; however, with all the heat since I received it I must say I haven't used it a whole lot. One thing I have noticed is the fan seems to run for an awful long time once the oven is shut off. Don't know if this is normal or not; otherwise everything seems to be fine. Very pleased with delivery service; right on time and they took away my old range.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, arrived as described and on time This is a high quality basic stove. Has all the basic features and looks attractive in my kitchen. Only disappointment is that it's twice the price of it's free standing cousin, while previous models I've bought were about the same price, what's the deal? Since there's no real option, have to go with the flow and hope it lasts a long time!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love the cooktop for canning! I like my control knobs for the electric burners, but the oven has electronic touch controls and a fan when turned on. I am not use to the fan noise when using the oven or for cooling down after use. I am still learning how to use the oven temperature and timer without turning each one off accidentally. And I prefer not having electronics for the oven, the knobs are much easier. But it had the features I needed for canning, but not realizing the electronic oven with fan noise when I called around the town for the best price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good! I bought this stove about 6 months ago. The oven fan is a bit loud but I'd rather have the fan than not. Overall cooking seems to be even. I haven't used the self cleaning oven option because Im a little see, my last oven, 6 years old, stopped working after using the self cleaning 5 times. I tried replacing the heating element and it didn't rectify the situation. I'm wondering if the self cleaning overheated the mechanism.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent, Basic Stove Very pleased so far with my new stove. The burners and oven heat up very fast, the oven is large, there is plenty of room on the top between the burners for spoon rests, and the bottom pull-out drawer is roomy and holds a lot. It was super easy to install. Can't go wrong with GE stoves, the one I replaced was over 20 years old and still worked great, I had it re-installed at a rental property that needed a newer stove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would buy again While space requirements entered into our original decisions, the GE was our first choice among those that met our requirements.
