What does load sense mean the first ge front load washer said load sense then I had to exchange it for another ge front load and that one says load sense on the screen of my washing machine... I'm trying to figure it out what it means. Plus I'm not getting any water filled in the washing machine.. The washing machine starts and pauses and the door locks and unlocks and then it says load sense..

Once you start a cycle, for 15 seconds, the unit's computer checks the system and then locks the door. The basket turns 1/4-turn clockwise, then counter-clockwise and unlocks the door. This is called the Child Safety procedure. The system pauses for ~15 seconds with the door unlocked, to allow a child to get out. The system locks the door and does a dry spin to determine the weight of the clothes in the washer. A little water is added and the unit does a spin to better determine the weight of the clothes. This is the load sensing. Then the system begins filling with water based on the weight of the clothes, and starts the wash process. This is about 60 seconds after Start was pressed. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

Even on the bulking settings, there does not seem to be enough water if any in the wash tub. I hear the water draw and water movement after the cycle starts. Yes 10 minutes in, I push the add garment button and the clothes are still dry to the touch. Is this normal? I can hear water sloshing around somewhere but dry clothes after 10 minutes is odd to me.

I also washed my colored clothes in normal and they came out dry after the wash was finish. My washer also has a funny smell is that normal I only used it 3 times.

Hi juicy-this is Sue from GE Appliances. We are happy to provide assistance. The cycle time is affected by how long it takes the washer to fill. This depends on the water pressure in your home. The “smart” timer “learns” the amount of time it takes to fill your washer and adjusts the total time accordingly. Occasionally, the washer may need to add more time to the cycle. This is mainly due to automatic load redistributions to better balance the load and reduce vibration. It is normal operation for the washer to add time to the cycle to rebalance the load. Common causes of out-of-balance loads or longer cycle times are a clogged pump filter (see the Care and Cleaning section), un-level washer, or exceeding the recommended maximum load sizes (see page 25 of the Owner's Manual). The timer adds 3 minutes to cycle for each rebalance. 11 or 15 rebalances may be done. This is normal operation. An odor may be caused by not using recommended quality of HE detergent or the use of too much detergent (see page 28 of the Owner's Manual). We hope this is helpful. Thanks for checking with us! CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 582 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Drain Hose Whoas Purchasers beware, if you are like many of us the standard 58" drain hose that comes from the factory installed on the unit may be too short. Finding the drain hose extension that will reach to higher heights is a nightmare. It is not spec'd out in any of their material, a phone call to GE had to be made by the distributor to find the proper part number. Additionally the factory drain hose is a much smaller diameter than the extension hose. Even if you follow the poorly drawn pictorial and included directions it will leak like a sieve at the ends of the extension hose. I called GE and was told this was the proper extension kit and "make sure you follow the directions exactly." I explained that the diameters were significantly different and was told by the rep "that is the right kit." A real design and engineering problem. To get a service tech out to "fix" the problem will be a 5 day wait. Oh and by the way we were told that most likely, it would not be covered because it was an installation problem, so much for GE CARES. Not the GE of yesteryear, they are relying on their laurels from that era. Go with Whirlpool, a great supply chain and better design, you can get parts quickly and you don't have to wait days. Highly disappointed.....If you want to be frustrated go with this model February 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by takes to long to wash a load after a year of owning this unit . I hate it. it takes over 1.5 hour to do a load even on quick cycle . I've sat and watched this unit several times with 17 minutes left which is rinse and spin . it will take over 20 minutes to self balance before it even starts the cycle this is on every load we wash. and it doesn't use enough water on lighter loads like a king size bed set (this the reason I chosen this unit) . when I pulled out the comforter there was still several dry spots on it. I have to chose pre wash on every load . u can not choose a load size . it measures by weight. that was my mistake. and the dryer works a little better . it can't even dry a blanket in one cycle it takes a few cycles to do a king size March 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I am pleased I AM PLEASED WITH MY PURCHASE. EASY TO INSTALL & i LOVE THE HIEGHT JUST RIGHT. VERY QUIET AND DOES A GOOD JOB . WISH THE BACK LEGS HAD SELF LEVELERS. March 29, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by I don't think the washers going to last The Dryer is great, Love it! but the washer has issues, it seems to work Ok, but shakes like crazy - it's been leveled by the installers, me and a service call, is on a foundation of cement and you can still here it shake throughout the entire house when it spins up, either loaded or unloaded. When I spin the drum by hand it sounds like somethings loose or you can hear bearings, the Tech that came out didn't even check the drum when I told him, just run it without a load saw how it was shaking and changed the levelers -- Bought the GE over the washer/dryer set that I went after, wish I hadn't. Don't have much faith in the warranty repair man, will probably have to call someone else I know that repairs appliances for a living. January 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Laundry made simple This product was well worth the price and has lowered laundry time and energy. February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Washer with Pros and Cons. The settings are neat. There's a setting for everything. The drawer where you pour in detergent is flimsy. I'm afraid it may break overtime I pull it. But I am careful. The capacity is good and the cute sound it plays when it's finished is quiet. Your clothes come out smelling good. The time left feature is... inaccurate. It frequently takes a new reading of the load and adjusts the time. It's much better than the dryer though. If I was buying a new washer again, this wouldn't be it. January 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by I regret purchashing this washer. I'm just sick that we wasted so much money on this washer. First, it is HUGE on the outside. I cannot even reach the cupboards above it because it sticks out so far, and I'm 5'9"! The pedestal doesn't help much because you still have to basically crawl inside it to retrieve your clothes. These are not even the worst problems. The washer doesn't get anything clean! I just wash normal loads, not highly dirty things. The barrel is larger than my old top-loader, but I have to put much less clothes in it to get them clean. I think the reason they call this water-efficient is because it uses just a trickle of water. I literally have to add an extra rinse cycle to every single load to even make sure all of the clothes get wet, and even then, sometimes I have to wash things twice. Also, the wash time is ridiculously long. It may estimate that it will only take 1 hour and 10 minutes to wash a load (already too long) but after it spends 10 minutes "sensing" the load, it adds an extra 40 minutes! It takes me a whole day, from rise to bed, to do 3 loads of laundry. I don't have that kind of time. Especially disappointing is that I was excited to be able to finally wash our large blankets and comforters at home instead of creepy laundromats, but a standard queen size comforter barely fits inside it and has to be washed THREE times to even get wet! I wish I had never bought this. What a waste of money. February 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy this washer!!! We have had our washer for 4 months now. All of a sudden the washer won't spin. It also keeps pausing for no reason. The timer jumps around for now reason. We are going to go back to Home Depot tomorrow to see if we can replace it! November 21, 2015
