Customer Questions & Answers

can this machine convert to 210 or 220 Volt over seas with transformer

Asked by: Mac
Hi Mac- This is Sue at GE Appliances. Many other countries use 50 hertz. We do not test or rate these appliances at 50 hertz. If the appliance is used on 50 hertz, we cannot determine whether it will work as intended. Most other countries are on 220 volts, rather than 120 volts. We do not test our appliances with voltage adapters (which also do not adjust hertz), so we cannot guarantee the appliance will work as intended. If an appliance made for use in the U.S. is taken to another country, it can void the warranty. One exception is when an appliance is taken overseas by U.S. military personnel to APO, FPO addresses. Parts and service may not be available for models taken outside of the U.S. We suggest to view our International Directory for a distributor in your country. Visit and view our Contact Us page. Thanks for checking with us!

Which cycles do not allow the fabric softener to dispense?

The manual states that the fabric softener option is not allowed for some cycles, but does not specify which ones. Model: GTWN8250DWS

Customer Reviews

4.8 DOE cu. ft. Top Load Washer in White, ENERGY STAR is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 142.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I did not choose this machine but it was a brand new and put into our house when we purchased it. At first it appeared to be a good product. This product has had to be repaired twice in less than a year. The "fill sense" keeps appearing and the "board" is bad. Shipping takes 7-10 days. I have spent or will be spending as much to fix this product as a new one would cost. Sorry, just not impressed with this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So glad this is discontinued. If only GE would give people their money back or a new washer. This... So glad this is discontinued. If only GE would give people their money back or a new washer. This thing sucks!! Yeah, it's big, but so what? Clothes still have stains, even when pre-treated. Had this thing 3 years and have tried everything, but it sucks. Never will I buy a stupid eco washer again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gears grinding Maybe I'm old school but I think a washer should last more than 2 years. We bought this less than 2 years ago and has worked ok. But now it has a bad grinding sound coming out from under. I did not buy the warranty because I trusted GE to build quality. I guess that's my fault

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FANTASTIC - love this washer I purchased this washer and could not be happier. I love the soft close lid, detergent dispenser and delayed wash. Its also easy for my kids to use - 16, 14, and 10 (they now want to do the wash as they can get everything they want done in one load). My husband is happy with the load size and the cleaning. Its also very quiet. We have noticed a drop in our water bill too - happy dance! I've had three washers in my history - first got brand new 20 years ago. Loved it for size. When we moved we left it. The washer in the second house was a piece of junk and lasted less than a year. This one is beyond my expectations for the price. (buy the way - got scratch/dent model. HIGHLY recommend this - if someone wants to tell me my washer has a small dent in the front then they can get their tushie out of my laundry room! I'm all for saving some money.) To address concerns of others: - low water. That is how its designed. Everything I've put into it - including a queen size comforter - was cleaned very well. Nothing was dry when it came out. The spin cycle does an excellent job and thus the drying time is less - more money savings for me! - long wash time. This washer holds 2x the load of my old washer and takes about 1/2 more time to wash. As a result I'm getting far more wash done at one time. I can adjust the time of wash based on controls on the machine. Quick wash is also an option - I've done it twice and worked great. Clothes were adequately clean - these close were not stained bad, just needed a fresh clean and I'd missed them in a previous load. I'd not do it for heavily stained items. - Items don't get wet. I watched a particular item as it agitated through the cycle. The item came to the top through the center and went back along the side several times in 10mn (I did not watch the whole cycle). Kinda fun to watch (yes, I'm a boring mom) - bad stain removal. Not a problem. My husband is a mechanic and there are lots of deep stains on his clothes. Pre-soak feature is great - I don't have to remember to come back. There as not been a single item that I was unhappy with the clean. There are some items that I knew would not come clean well - but it did an excellent job. I also use quality name brand detergent. - rips clothes. Nothing at all. Actually better than my old washer that would tangle items together. I've only had it a short time, but not a hint that this is an issue. - out of balance. Only one time has it gone out of balance. I had two king size pillows in it along with some pillow cases. Adjusted the load and worked fine. I can guarantee you this would have happened with my old washer several times during a wash. - detergent residue. Not happened once. I make sure I'm using HE soap and only use the appropriate amount for the size of the load. How do I determine? I use the detergent cup level mark for the right size load - small load, medium load, large load. Did it before with my old washer. Nice thing - the washer senses how much wash is in the machine and adjusts the water level automatically. No more oops - I forgot to put it back to large load after washing a few delicates. It was a bit to adjust to a new HE washer coming from a 20yo GE (which as far as I know, still works great). Just a learning curve - so far so good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product has me staying in laundry room more than the kitchen! The capacity is excellent, everything is great, except, with the minimum water used some clothes may have visible lint residue on them, especially black clothes. If put in the dryer, it usually is not an issue, but not all clothing I want to put in the dryer. Otherwise, excellent. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Poor Sensor I highly recommend purchasing a 5 yr. warranty for GTWN8250DWS washer. The sensor had to be reprogrammed. The GE repairman was at my house 3 times within 3 weeks. It's still not sensing consistently. Sometimes it fills with 2" of water and then the next time it fills 15in. on the same settings and same amount of clothing, how can this be sensing correctly? GE said they can not find anything wrong after the second reprogramming. Now, it's spraying a small amount of water into the tub, when nothing is in the washer, it's turned off and the lid is open. I'm constantly having to babysit this washing machine!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from How upsetting!!! Unfortunately this washer was way beyond disappointing. I've had my washer less than 1 year and it's had multiple service calls due to it shredding my clothes, it makes a horrible noise, and if you fill it very full at all it doesn't wash well. Each time the service man looks over the machine and thinks he has it fixed only to find that it starts doing the same thing shortly after he leaves. They've replaced the motor, and multiple parts. Finally we requested another machine. (Definitely not this model!!!) I was looking forward to my new washer with all the bells and whistles and unfortunately you would do much better looking elsewhere. Just my opinion though.
