I read the reviews prior to purchase as I have not had good luck with fluorescent fixtures in the past. The T8 replaced 2 old ballasts each twice the weight, and 4 times the uselessness. First I removed one ballast and fit the new one in the old location with the same retaining nut. While narrower and lighter, it fit the same slot. I cut the wires from that ballast first and attached by color to the new one. Then followed with the second. Not hard. The instant on with no flicker or hum is outstanding. I did all three fixtures in my basement with equal success. Highly recommend.

First time changing out a ballast. Turned out I had T12's with two ballasts and alot of intimidating wiring. After watching how to videos I installed this very easily and it works perfectly! Very happy with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by GladMech T8's excellent upgrade for T12's
I am gradually replacing my T12 ballasts as they fail. I will eventually have replaced several dozen ballasts. I have trouble with some T12's when too hot or too cold.
1. These fit in the same fixtures.
2. The wiring is not the same, but easily swapped.
3. The bulbs are smaller and lower wattage.
4. The light output is higher.
5. The expected life is longer.
6. The range of acceptable temperature is wider.
All in all - better in every way.

I was asked to change a dead ballast. All 4 tubes had dark ends and both ballasts were the same age. This single ballast only costs $4 more than a 2 lamp ballast, is more efficient and so is upgrading from t12 to t8 tubes. The ballast is a high voltage start, so you tie both socket pin wires to only one ballast wire. The lights start fast, are brighter than t12, and 4-23w bulbs on 1 high voltage start electronic ballast draw 1/2 of 4-40w tubes with 2 filament heating ballasts and eliminates call backs for the other ballast.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by MikeS Easy install, works great
Have a light in our kitchen with four T12 tubes (for some reason, the unit came with two 2 lamp ballasts). Decided to convert to T8s.
Although the wiring was a little different from the original set-up (going to one ballast instead of two) the wiring diagram on the ballast was simple and easy to follow.
All four lights now come on instantly, there is no humming noise (or any other noise from the ballast), and we are saving electricity with the T8s.
For $20, this is a excellent unit
