Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.
You can use screens/washers with the stainless steel inlet hoses, but they should be inserted into the hose at the house faucet end, not the washer water valve end.
I hope this helps!

All washers have the same size hose bibs. Your water pressure problem is something else and could be many things. First, check to see if valve is turned all the way on.

This hose will not change the water pressure allowance into your washer. As for being universal, yes it is. It has the same connection as your average garden hose but made with much nicer hose material.

Following are some issues that will effect the fill time.
* Slow fill can result when the water pressure is too low. To check your water pressure call your water company.
* Slow fill can also result from stopped up screens in the washer water valve. Check your screens.
* 1/2 of the water valve on the washer can fail and you will only get hot or cold.

My plumber, who I respect, says he was told at a trade show that you should not use hose screens with stainless steel washer hoses. Is that true? If so, why?

Screens are just that: a physical impediment to block unwanted material. Screens are just that: a physical impediment to block unwanted material. If you have one on a steel hose, there will eventually be a blockage (why else are you using the screen in the first place?) and with that blockage will be a buildup in pressure. As the pressure rises, you will be forced into playing the game "Who Is The Weakest Link" because it will then be a matter of time for some point in the chain to fail. And when you are pitting a steel hose against a much older iron pipe, it's my experience that the hose wins every time. If the pipe in the wall breaks, then you are replacing the wall as well as the line. But if you use a simple rubber hose instead of the steel one, then the rubber hose will be the one to burst and it is then a much simpler repair and cleanup. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GE braided washing machine hoses EZ installation high quality . Adaptable to all configurations. Look much better than plain rubber hoses they replaced even though you don't really see them! They give me an added level of confidence against bursting or leaks. Only thing is if your going to be using them with brass fixture, use Teflon pipe tape for the dissimilar metals June 25, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product This set was easy to install on my washing machine and are holding up very well. January 17, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by poor quality short life Found out the hard way just how poor of quality this product is. Purchased because of the brand (GE) and felt confident that price would be a indicator of the quality. Not so, a month after installation my client calls to inform me her laundry room is flooded. After closer inspection we come to find out the hose has a vinyl cover over the braided stainless hose that is prone to failure. This cover seams a good idea when looking at the product at first glance but in time the vinyl is actually in the crimped end connector and the culprit that causes the hose end to fill the vinyl jacket and eventually burst. Stay away from this one is my end recommendation. August 18, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Good Hose The hose is substantial, the couplings good plated brass, they pass water at the same rate as a standard rubber hose. There are no inlet screens provided if that is an issue, nor elbow adapters. They are a little stiff but take a reasonable turn well enough; probably not a good idea to kink them. If your old 4 foot rubber hose just barely stretches to the machine, these might be too stiff to stretch. if you need a right angle adapter, HD lists Model # LFA-686, Store SKU # 80401. But I don't imagine they will ever burst and that is the most important thing. Since the couplings are chrome plated you will have to use teflon tape if you have a brass water fixture. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Saves much headache , and water spills, later This is an item that requires a review 10 yrs after installation. Although that is not the case here, it WAS the case in our previous home. We had a minor leak in the washer water line and replaced with these deluxe heavy duty flexible metal lines and never had another leak. Those lasted 10 yrs, and are probably still in good shape. I would recommend these for anyone who has a washer. You don't have to worry about a major flood from the cheap rubber hoses supplied with the machine sprouting a leak when you are not home.
