the installation manual helped me through the whole process and the Home Depot people help me with the plumbing parts. I could't be more happier with the performance of the softener and the quality of the water after 13 months of usage. I use1/4 to1/3 of the salt vs the old unit

I have never had a home water softener before. Our dishes were looking pretty bad and a friend suggested it. I decided on the GE because of its smartWater system, size, price and good looks. I installed it myself in an afternoon - a little bit of copper pipe sweating was the only skill needed. Filled it up with salt and went through the setup. I had my water hardness tested at a local hardware store. So, I knew about where to start. I have not had to touch it since! That was six months ago and it is still 3/4 full of salt. Dishes are spot-free, clothes look nice and you can use way less shampoo on your hair. Nice product, GE! Don't hesitate to buy this model. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I had the appliance installed by an experienced and knowledgeable plumber. After two days usage the output remained within 25 ppm of untreated well water. The manual supplied with the appliance is well written so I followed the explicit troubleshooting instructions. I found a possible hang-up in the manually initiated electronic diagnostics but saw that the system went through the recharge cycle automatically. That cycle took only about 15 mins. Soft water remains unavailable - I get readings of 380 to 415 ppm (about 23-24 grains). I'm hoping my email to GE will get a helpful response. We'll see. At this point I cannot recommend the appliance.

After many years with another brand water softener treating our well water, we finally have the product we always wanted. My water is wonderful and can be used just as it comes from the faucet. The laundry and dishes are cleaner than ever before. Our salt use is minimal compared to what we needed before with the previous unit. We are so satisfied that we recommend it to anyone who needs this product. Ordering online was easy, timely, money-saving, and convenient. Delivery was a matter of very little time and right to the basement. Installation was done within 2 hours. What a great experience! Another GE product that does what it promises. Thank you GE and Home Depot

I had a Whirlpool softener but during some home renovations, I had to disconnect the pipes and move the unit. During the process some water sprayed onto the electronics and fried the circut board. You live and learn. This GE softener system's electronics board is actually somewhat protected by being encased in a separate compartment. Installation is easy. I have only had this unit for a month but it works and I am happy. The price point is right where is should be in my opinion. It's hard to give something like this rating. It either works or it doesn't. Does anyone ever need to see a list of options for a hammer?

This is a really good water softener - so far at least. We've been using it our new house for 2 months. Water from our well here in South Central Texas is quite hard, and has a very high iron content (5 ppm). Using Diamond Red Out salt, and occasional use of Iron Out powder before regeneration, we have no evidence of iron staining, and our water softness is perfect!
Although the softener regenerate often (every 2 or 3 days for our family of 2), it uses very little salt - even though we have the hardness level set at 30,000. Hopefully we can look forward to years of satisfaction from this easy-to-use machine.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Idratherbefishing Works well for us
This unit has been installed for over a month in our house now and is working great. We realized the change in water hardness immediately in our showers, dishwasher, laundry, etc. A lot of the reviews regarding this product state that after 5 years the product failed and they had to purchase a new one. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for and if you want something that is gonna last 10+ years go out and buy a rainsoft system for $8K. If this product last me 2-3yrs and I have to replace it, I would feel like I got my money out of the purchase and would have no problem purchasing another one.

I have had this for three years. no problems at all. it is easy to use and easy to install. I had the plumbing set up for a water softener while the house was being built. and I am very happy. After that I installed it my self, and never had a problem. With the exception of trying to keep my wife from piling stuff up around it, "Nature hates a vacuum" and so does my wife. if there is an empty space she will fill it. just make sure you face it to the open room. I faced mine on the side so I could access the plumbing but that is unnecessary and makes it a little difficult to access, now that it is surrounded. we use ours for a house of three and it uses less then two bags of salt per year. cheep to use. Hope this was helpful and hope you enjoy yours. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
