Does this water softener removes Chlorine

Hi, Does this water softener removes chlorine as well ??
Asked by: Yas
Hello Yas - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. A water softener removes hardness, which is a term that describes the presence of calcium and magnesium minerals in the water. A water softener removes calcium and magnesium, not chlorine. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

We are going to replace a old unit that we now have but have to find one that takes care of both problems
Asked by: Lillian
Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. GE water softeners will remove calcium and magnesium from the water supply and some clear water iron if Diamond Crystal Red Out Brand Softener Salts with Iron Fighter is used. Maximum Hardness Removal (160 gpg) / Maximum Iron Removal (10 ppm). I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

What is the bathroom capacity for this system

Asked by: Victor
Hello, This is Donna with GE and I am happy to assist you with your question on the GE 45,000 Grain Water Softener model # GXSH45. There are several variables to consider for sizing the water softener. There is no harm in specifying a higher capacity softener. In the long run, a higher capacity softener may be more convenient. Please see the formula below for proper sizing of the water softener. 1. Get your water tested or ask for results done on municipal water supply. Call your water provider and ask for the mineral content test results, or have the water tested by a water-testing facility. 2. Divide the mineral content if given in parts per million (PPM) by 17.1 to get the mineral content in grains per gallon (GPG). For example, a reading of 171.0 PPM divided by 17.1 equals a mineral content of 10.0 GPG. 3. Write down the number of people in the house. Multiply the number of people in the house by 75 to get the average number of gallons used per day by the house. For example, a house with two people in it would use 150 gallons per day (2 x 75 = 150). 4. Multiply the number of gallons used by your house daily by the number of grains per gallon of minerals in the water from the test results. For example, the two-person household needs to remove a total of 1,500 grains daily (150 gallons x 10 GPG = 1,500). I would recommend to contact your local dealer for assistance.

What is the max flow rate provided by the GXSH45V?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello Warrenk, Thank you for your inquiry on the GE 45,000 Grain High Flow Softener Model # GXSH45V. Service Flow Rate at 15 psi drop is 9.5. Some plumbing codes may require a higher flow rate-some as high as 15 gpm. Installation of our products in areas where higher flow rates are required would not be appropriate. The rating on the softener tags state a specific psi (pressure) drop based on flow rate. Purchasers and installers must ensure compliance ith locally applicable plumbing codes. Donna with GE

Do I need to have RO system after buying this product?

I am planning to buy this as I am happy with GE for all my appliances. 1. Does work for family of 5.? 2. Does it take time to soften the water / will it be softened on demand or stored locally in the tank? 3. How often do I have to change the salt/filter? 4. Do I need to have RO system for drinking water if I use this product
Asked by: Selva
Hello Selva, This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help. 1. To determine if this water softener will work for your size family, we recommend using the following sizing guide: Water hardness in gpg (grains per gallon): _____ Average gallons per day per person: _____ Number of people in household: _____ Multiply step 2 by step 3: _____ Multiply answer in step 4 by answer in step 1: _____ (This gives the hardness that needs to be removed daily) Multiply answer in step 5 by step 3 to get the size of the softener needed: _____ This is the minimum capacity estimate for a new water softener. These figures may be used as a starting point, but there is no harm in specifying a higher capacity softener. In the long run, a higher capacity softener may be more convenient. 2. All GE water softeners are programmed from the factory to recharge at 2:00 am. Recharge takes approximately 2 hours to complete. The frequency of how often the water softener will recharge depends on factors like water hardness level and household water usage. The water softener has a reserve capacity of 20 to 25% before it regenerates; this means that it regenerates when the resin beads are 75 to 80% saturated. 3. We recommend checking the salt level a few weeks after you install the softener and once a week after that. Refill it when the brine tank is 1/4 to 1/2 full and never allow it to run out of salt. Frequency of refilling is dependent on water hardness and water usage. 4. A RO system is not required when using a water softener. Thank you for checking.

Flexiable connectors

Can we use flexible water lines to connect to the back of the softener vs. hard copper line example shown on the installation Manuel? if so, what would be the type of connector copper, stainless steel plus what type of end 3/4 or 1 inch (want to make sure it is safe e.g. NSF etc)
Asked by: anushn
Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. Per page 10 of the installation instructions, the inlet/outlet plumbing can be any of the following (3/4" minimum): Copper pipe, Threaded pipe, PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) pipe, CPVC plastic pipe, or other pipe approved for use with potable water (water safe to drink) Some of these types of tubing are flexible. A store associate can assist with the types of tubing that are safe for drinking water. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

After spending a little bit of time getting my existing input/output connections to match up, I plugged it in and as easy to program and has been running ever since. It does its job with minimal maintenance. This is my first experience with using and replacing a water softener (I moved into a home with an old, broken 20 year old beast I replaced with this one). This isn't the biggest one rating for my family size and use however, it did match the dimensions I needed for the replacement. So far, its basic program is working great without running at 100% all the time. I like the 'days to empty' reading which can help me plan when to refill.

I installed the water softener myself over a weekend, including a whole house water filter and plumbing 'bypass' for easy filter changes and system maintenance. At present, I've had the water softening system running for about a month and it's great. Start up was easy and the system has managed water and salt usage without issue, and appears to be dynamically adjusting to our water usage schedule. In terms of water quality and feel, the water softener has made a noticeable difference that has been enjoyable to shower/bathe in and reduced the hard water deposits common with hard water.

We purchased this water softener to help with eczema issues that my wife and two of my kids have. It has made a very big difference in their lives. We are a family of five and the water softener keeps up with us fairly well. Cleaning the unit is a little difficult but the affect it has had on my family's skin is worth the hassle once a year. Installing the unit was very easy. I used a flex hose and shark bites and was done in no time. Keeping the salt level high and checking for salt bridges every time you add salt is a good habit.

Install was relatively easy since the previous homeowner had a Culligan rental unit in the house. Total install took about 1.5 hours, including a trip to Home Depot to buy some PVC adapters to fit to existing pipes. I have a family of 5, and we have had this softener about a month. We put the initial six bags in and so far we still have another 20 days of salt. Based on the numbers we should only have to add one or two bags a month now that the initial system flush is done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GE Softener This is a cost effective unit. Works great. Verified this with water testing before and after. The unit does have a bypass feature but IMHO install the three manual valves suggested. HD did ship this to my home. First unit damaged no fault of HD ,HD stood behind my purchase no questions asked. This softener is the most bang for your buck if you have really hard water. As with any softener, kitchen is on RO system, with Calcium and Magnesium filter.

Had nspected at the store since I read of damaged units. The top cover was damaged but decided I needed it regardless. I installed the unit myself and have been using it now for a month. I finally have it adjusted to my wife's satisfaction. The water is now soft and clean and the smell has gone away. Lately my toilets seem to be cleaning themselves. After removing the orange ring from the toilets they have stayed clean. The water through the filter on the refrigerator tastes amazing. I prefer our water over bottled water. Clothes are cleaner, hair is softer, skin feels better, so overall very pleased. Installation is pretty straightforward if you have plumbing experience and the tools. If you are hesitant at all, hire a plumber. Your main water line goes through this unit and if done incorrectly that could be a lot of water damage.

Cap at bottom was no easy task to retreve. It certainly had an ugly trip to New Hampshire. But a bit of super glue and a easy hook up so it looks like its doing the job. Fast service in arrival So happy to have soft water and without rust.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Was a bit pricey but worth it so far. Can not believe how little salt this unit uses. Should have replaced my 20 year old unit years ago. My water would not shut off 100% and not wanting to shut down the well I found shark bites. Made install fast and easy, Unit is very quite compared to my old one and uses very little salt.
