Hello Cynthia - this is Nancy at GE Appliances. We're sorry to hear that your oven is not heating properly, and are happy to help you. First, if the oven is not heating at all, we recommend disconnecting power to the range via the main power supply for a few minutes and then restoring power. Hopefully, this will reset the control panel. If this does not help, and your oven is heating, but not heating properly, then we recommend first checking that the controls are set properly. Also, make sure heat is not blocked from circulating in the oven. If aluminum foil is being used on the oven shelf, never cover the entire shelf. This will block the circulation of heat in the oven. There should always be two inches around the back sides of the oven shelf for heat circulation. Check the oven gasket for rips or tears. On electric ranges, one of the heating elements may have malfunctioned. Check to make sure they glow or heat during the cycle. If they do not, then we recommend contacting GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

Is there a way to use a cast iron skillet?

This question is from 5.3 cu. ft. Electric Range in Stainless Steel

I read the previous FAQs. It stated from GE not to use a cast iron on the stove cause it will cause scratching. Is there a product you can put in between the stove and cast iron to prevent scratching. I can't imagine why an stove that requires a special set of pans woukd be so popular.

Answer:
Hi MnG,
I am happy to help. We don't recommend cast iron, but if you decide to use, make sure it does not have a burr or rough spot, as it will scratch the glass surface. Also also don't slide it around on the cooktop. Keep in mind that cast iron is slow to absorb heat. Once this type of cookware heats up, especially on high heat, it holds an intense amount of heat which is transferred to the cooktop.

Hi MnG,

Also also don't slide it around on the cooktop. Keep in mind that cast iron is slow to absorb heat. Once this type of cookware heats up, especially on high heat, it holds an intense amount of heat which is transferred to the cooktop. This can cause the element to shut down as a response to the temperature limiters which indicate surface temperature is too high for cooktop components to handle. You will want to keep an eye on what you are cooking in this case. I hope this helps. We appreciate you checking with us.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Quality issue Purchased this unit in 2013, use it occasionally since I'm single and most of time working in the office. First, the hot cooktop light stays on all the times, then the big burner (9inches) broken. Now have to spend $ 113 purchased part from GE, this kind of quality issue bothers me when the product is still consider pretty new. February 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really Nice Range Really Nice range..Easy to use. Burners heat up quickly and are easy to clean once you allow it to cool has a cool indicator light..And the Cerama Bryte cleaner and pad makes cleaning surface a breeze..Oven temps was to the letter of cake box time...Only thing I had a problem with was cleaning the top of the stove where the knobs are located..I tried using several cleansers, like widex all purpose cleanser as well as stainless steel appliance cleaner..everything I tried result in smearing marks...So when I was about to give up, I tried cleaning it with warm warm...Wow! it worked...no more smears...I also like that the drawer stays on track unlike my old one. and it pulls out smoothly...I wouldn't advise putting anything heavy in there although it seems to be well built like all other drawers, the bottom isn't that thick.I use my drawer for storing alumunim foil, sandwich bags and plastic utensils..Its perfect for lightweight things January 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stainless GE Range Very satisfied with this GE range with the smooth cooktop. The controls are easy to use, and very functional. Wanted a basic unit that works well, found it in this one. Online ordering and delivery was smooth and quick. Also got a stainless vent hood from Home Depot which complements this range. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best purchase I love this stove, the oven is spacious , easy to clean Looks really nice June 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great and looks fantastic! I don't cook too much, but I upgraded my kitchen with stainless steel and wanted a flat top stove. It has been great! January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Range! This is the third range I have purchased for various locations in the last few years. The first was a Maytag in the same price range as this one which was a terrible and is now in the trash. The second was Kenmore which was more expensive and has fancier features and is still working well. This third one works as well as the Kenmore, but doesn't look as nice. If you are on a tight budget, this is an excellent choice for an electric range. The price for a stainless range is fantastic (I got it on sale) so I could not be happier with my purchase. The delivery was also very fast from the time of purchase which was much better than Lowes would offer me. The delivery guys arrived late, but did a great job once they were here. July 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Purchase Just recently purchased and installed this appliance. I've only had the chance to use the stove top and not the oven yet ( it is that new ). Well, the stove top heated very quickly and efficiently with easy to read knobs. Works great and I'm not disappointed with the purchase and would recommend this to someone who is looking for a stove top / oven range equipment. As well, the stainless steel looks beautiful and modern with easy to clean features. April 23, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! Love our new range. Cooks evenly and quickly (compared to our outdated 1970s range). The variable-size burner is helpful, and the timer is great - the sound is pleasant but persistent. Looks great and the glass cooktop is super easy to clean. Installation was easy enough. Only difficulty was in undoing the screws to attach the power cord - they were screwed in so tight I broke the handle of my wrench trying to loosen them. The only design feature I would change is the knobs. The only way to tell what level the knob is pointing to is by identifying where the thinner part of the knob handle is pointing. To make it easier and to tell at a glance whether the knob is pointed to "Off" or Medium, I painted a little red dot with acryclic paint on the thinner end of the knob (see photo). Nail polish would probably work too. December 23, 2015
