Hello Cynthia - this is Nancy at GE Appliances. We're sorry to hear that your oven is not heating properly, and are happy to help you. First, if the oven is not heating at all, we recommend disconnecting power to the range via the main power supply for a few minutes and then restoring power. Hopefully, this will reset the control panel. If this does not help, and your oven is heating, but not heating properly, then we recommend first checking that the controls are set properly. Also, make sure heat is not blocked from circulating in the oven. If aluminum foil is being used on the oven shelf, never cover the entire shelf. This will block the circulation of heat in the oven. There should always be two inches around the back sides of the oven shelf for heat circulation. Check the oven gasket for rips or tears. On electric ranges, one of the heating elements may have malfunctioned. Check to make sure they glow or heat during the cycle. If they do not, then we recommend contacting GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

Is there a way to use a cast iron skillet?

I read the previous FAQs. It stated from GE not to use a cast iron on the stove cause it will cause scratching. Is there a product you can put in between the stove and cast iron to prevent scratching. I can't imagine why an stove that requires a special set of pans woukd be so popular.

Answer:
Hi MnG,
I am happy to help. We don't recommend cast iron, but if you decide to use, make sure it does not have a burr or rough spot, as it will scratch the glass surface. Also also don't slide it around on the cooktop. Keep in mind that cast iron is slow to absorb heat. Once this type of cookware heats up, especially on high heat, it holds an intense amount of heat which is transferred to the cooktop.

Hi MnG,

Also also don't slide it around on the cooktop. Keep in mind that cast iron is slow to absorb heat. Once this type of cookware heats up, especially on high heat, it holds an intense amount of heat which is transferred to the cooktop. This can cause the element to shut down as a response to the temperature limiters which indicate surface temperature is too high for cooktop components to handle. You will want to keep an eye on what you are cooking in this case. I hope this helps. We appreciate you checking with us.
Lisa from GE Appliances.

5.3 cu. ft. Electric Range in Stainless Steel is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 759.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great stove Bought stove in 02/16. Stove is great so far. The only thing that I find a problem is the length of time is takes to preheat the oven. To me it seems to be too long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a good product It is a vast improvement over the old stove it replaces. the flat surface and burners you can control the heat better on.
Date published: 2016-07-28
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broken after 3 Months... I bought this 3 months ago and it is ALREADY MALFUNCTIONING. When the small dual burner is on high, the outer most portion of the large dual burner turns on too. The thermostats on the burners on not working properly. When the burners are on for more than a minute or two the burners stop cycling on and off and will not maintain the heat setting. To get the stove to work I have to turn the temperature up or down for a moment then back to the desired temperature in order to "reset" the temperature every few minutes while cooking. The burners struggle to boil water- even the so called "high power ones" and I have to constantly adjust the knob to maintain high heat. Now the oven is starting to act up. Twice the oven failed to maintain moderate 350 degree heat during baking. After about 30 minutes the heating element stopped cycling on and off-it stayed on! The oven was about 500 degree when I removed my burned dinner. Bottom line- The quality of this stove is abysmal. A brand new stove should NOT have "quirks" like constantly needing to adjust knobs in order to function. Two stars ONLY because it is capable of cooking (the stove it replaced died and was completely inoperable)
