range top color

the description provides that this model (JB750DFWW) has a black patterned cooktop. the description for the JB650DFWW provides that it has a white patterned cooktop. there obviously are burner differences between the two models, but is there really a cooktop color difference? Thanks
Asked by: mack
Both have a white patterned ceramic cook top. It is a dark glass with small white flecks throughout.

Can a large, heavy, pressure canner be used on this type,{ smothe top} of range?

Am really interested in this type of range But I do a lot of home canning. A 26 quart pressure canner is what I use. Really do not know if the smooth top range can handle the job. I REALLY NEED TO KNOW AS I NEED A STOVE NOW, PLEASE?
Asked by: lh74947
Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. Pots that extend beyond one inch of the cooking element's trim ring are not recommended for most surface cooking. However, when canning with a water-bath or pressure canner, larger diameter pots may be used. This is because boiling water temperatures (even under pressure) are not harmful to cooktop surfaces surrounding the surface units. Do not use large diameter canners or other large diameter pots for frying or boiling foods other than water. Please also observe the following points in canning: Be sure the canner fits over the center of the surface unit. Flat bottomed canners must be used. When canning, use recipes and procedures from reputable sources. These are available from canning jar manufacturers and county extension offices. Remember that canning is a process that generates large amounts of steam and heat and extreme caution must be used. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

5.3 cu. ft. Electric Range with Self-Cleaning Convection Oven in Slate is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 563.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great stove I've only had this a few weeks but so far like it. The flat top is so shiny it makes me want to upgrade my tea kettle I sit on it. I used the convection to bake 2 trays of cookies at the same time & it worked great. The timer lets you know a minute early its about to beep.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible! This stove was delivered by two very nice guys who were respectful and efficient, but I should have cleaned the cooktop before they left. When I cleaned it before using it later, there were several light scratches in the cooktop surface. I called the hotline number that came with the paperwork and they very graciously arranged for a new one to be delivered before Thanksgiving. Note: You MUST phone the hotline no later than 48 hours after delivery to report damage, otherwise they may not replace damaged goods. They told me to use the stove until they could deliver a new one. Wow, was I surprised at what happened to the cooktop surface after cooking on it! I used the very high quality Calphalon brand cookware that I always used on my previous JennAir smooth cooktop stove. (I used my previous stove for 11 years, with only a few scratches!) From just sliding the clean cookware across the cooktop, several more scratches are evident and continue to appear whenever I place a pan on the cooktop. I have used several different high quality pans, with the same bad result. When I talked to the folks in the Home Depot store where I bought it, they say this is highly unusual and perhaps the surface is defective. I am now shopping for a new stove and fear having it replaced with the same model. If you buy this stove, be sure to clean the top while the delivery people are still there, and slide a clean piece of approved style cookware across the cooktop. If it scratches easily, don't accept it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good. So far so good - we've only had the range/oven for a couple of weeks and my wife hasn't done much baking, but the look of the unit coordinates very well with the other appliances and is very easy to clean. One irritation I had with Home Depot was the fact that the unit comes without an electric cord - POW they hit you for a cord, or leave without connecting (I guess) - they also wouldn't connect the cord from the existing stove. I really didn't appreciate that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Teaching An Old Grandma New Tricks With This Range Love this range. Bought the slate not being sure if it would go with the stainless I already have. SURPRISE!!!! It coordinates beautifully. The handle on the oven matches the stainless I already have. Haven't bought a range for 30 yrs so was sooooooooo surprised of all the new features. The best one - NO ELEMENT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE OVEN. Just wipe it out if there is a spill. Haven't been disappointed in any aspect of it so far and don't expect to be. Why? It's a GE!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Matches kitchen decor All the features we wanted. However, top does not wipe up well after use. My wife is forever having to use a stove top cleaner to remove spills from overflowing pots. With our previous stove we only used the cleaner about every other month.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Design Flaw I know first hand why this stove has been discontinued. It eats bulbs, Glad no one else will be able to purchase it. Shot 3 bulbs in one week! On second service call to replace receptive. Only 7 months old!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Now we're cooking! We purchased this range a couple of months ago. So far we are quite happy with it. We really like the sealed cook top. It's so much easier to clean than the coils. Haven't tried out the oven yet!
